May I get a couple of comments and perspectives regarding the pros/cons—or whatever—of the Hotel Rookie (formerly the Uptown)? I’m fairly confident that I’ll like the Rookie cs, since it’s on the list of the March 10th-21st crawl. I hit the dam for the first time just days after that crawl ends, but another one begins! And I appreciate, as always, everybody’s responses, as well as reading your posts. This is a chill cast forum: Thanks!
I haven't stayed there but my friends have and I saw some of the rooms. PRO'S : location - leidesplein, cool outdoor porch where you can smoke joints CON'S : small rooms, leidseplein is noisy at night
I will be staying here in Feb.so when I get back on 21st I will tell you how the room is.As Koopa said it is noisy at the front of the hotel so just ask for a room in the back.I know a few people who stay here regularly and they all told me about getting the room in the back. And I will for sure report back the quality of smoke for you!!
Koopa and Travelling High, Thanks for your feedback: Travelling High, I look forward to your “quality smoke” report from Rookies. I’m going to send the hotel a note today and see if a back side room is available during my travel dates. And Koopa, I really look forward to yours and the gangs’ reports on what’s new on the menus—especially word on various types of tasty hash—after the March crawl. BTW, Koop, are you planning to hit WWs in Haarlem during your March trip? Any type of WWs’ update would be much appreciated. I’m currently booked in Haarlem. But the hotel is “smoke free” and the idea of not being able to spark a bowl in my room during the evenings is starting to nag at me. Regardless, I still plan on hitting all three WW shops, as per your previous advice. Again, Koopa and Travelling High, thanks!
Hi Rogga, You have my travel time mixed up. I'll be in Amsterdam for the last week of april and the first week of may. I will be traveling to WW's while there though. Also, while staying at rookies be sure to hit up global chillage coffeeshop for some "warm ears" and the dolphin coffeeshop for "white dolphin" and for the lounge seats they have in the basement. the rookies is right next door to "Tatanka Smart Shop" and is right down the road from a really good chinese restaurant named "Tong Ah" Cheers
ive stayed there. the rooms in front are noisy and this can last all night any night. i left the last night at 4 am and about 30-40 people were just hanging out right there on the street and had been for hours. the guys that run it seemed very cool. rooms are clean enough for my relatively low standards but have been smoked in plenty. my lungs got pretty bad and cleared up after i left.
We stayed at Rookies last May and loved the place so much were booked in again this May. As pointed out though the rooms at the back are the best, and there is a large outdoor decking area at the back to enjoy a good smoke.
Hi All, Thank you for the continued information. I declined, however, a room at Rookies today, since the only room they had was on the first floor on the front side of the hotel. I definitely still intent to visit Rookies cs during my holiday. If anyone has other recommendations on smoker friendly hotels or apartments in a good location—in the 95 or so euro/night range—please let me know. Koopa, once again, thanks for the great details! I had already taken note of trying some “warm ears” at the G Chillage, since it is on your “top picks list.” And I’ve added the Dolphin’s “white dolphin” to my “must try list.” Based on our exchanges, I think you’re very clued in on exactly what I’m looking for! Cheers
