in my country this is pronounced like this: /kara'mεl/ (the second vowel is pronounced like a schwa)

I should think that is why this thread was created in the first place; to find out how people pronounce such words not for people to flame each other.

I imagine you would be quite offended if I told you the way you have spoken all your life is wrong and that you must conform to Queen's English.

Than i guess this poll shouldn't have been made and the comments shouldn't have been posted. The way we are taught and brought up is the way we were .. But your right. Doesn't mean we can't have our own opinions.

The kereckt Strine (Australian) pr'nunciation is "care-uh-mul", with the emphasis on the "care" bit. You kind of say it through your nose and drawl it out. That's the way it's said in the bush anyway.
