wowee, early folk is great. grew up in extended family and thats all we listened to. i was so young but loved the music immediately. any day, give me baez, gordon lightfoot, the farinas, tom paxton, tom rush, never liked joni at the time but she really grew on me. judy collins always, odetta nobody like her. buffy st marie. dylan goes without saying, the older dylan meaning he was younger. michaela

I just noticed Bert Jansch isn't in this thread yet. He's one of my favourite folk musicians, especially lately I've been listening a lot of Bert Jansch and the early albums of the Pentangle. John Renbourn is good too, but I appreciate his music most when he's playing with Jansch.

Sounds promising, I'll check 'em! My computer can't play youtube movies properly, either the sound or the movie itself sticks all the time..

Ewan McColl did a great album of Robert Burns songs. Yes, the Scottish poet intended many of his poems to be sung. Don't overlook some to the more commercial folkies. PP&M have some great stuff that got no airplay. Google Chad Mitchell Trio Bell Telephone hour and see them with their guitarist, Roger McGuinn. Impressive. i first heard of Hoyt Axton circa 1969 in a Time magazine article stating that he had stopped smoking marijuana after 30 years.

I just "discovered" Kate Wolf this year. She was a wonderful songwriter ... so sad that she passed so young. I think her best song was "Across the Great Divide", which Nanci Griffith did a great version of ...
