So, I got a call today from my Mom back in the States, and apparently my Dad, on short notice, has to leave tomorrow to go to Ireland to do some work at the plant the company he works for has there. He's going to be over on this side of the pond for a week and two days, as it stands now. So, they did a little background research and found it wouldn't cost much if next weekend he popped over from Ireland to Stanstead in order to see me and Sonny. So I'm excited, and experiencing a plethora of emotions really. It's only going to be a short trip, maybe only a day possibly overnight or for the weekend, as all the details haven't been sorted yet. And well there is a chance it might not happen, depending on what goes on with the project he's gotta do. I haven't seen my dad in over 3 years now. I can't say he and I have always got on the greatest, but he's my dad and I love him. I'm really a bit nervous about the whole thing, but it makes me emotional thinking about the fact that I'll be able to give him a hug again after all this time. So, please, send me some good wishes and hopes that it works out and I can actually get a chance to see my dad, even if it's only for a few hours.
thanks, guys. I don't have the set in stone info yet, won't have that till tomorrow or Tuesday. But my dad told me that he's arranged it so even if the project he's coming over to complete finishes mid-week, he'll be able to stay and work on some other project until his full time is up the following Tuesday. That way he'll definitely be here for Saturday and he'll stay over till Sunday. He's going to have someone at the office on Monday arrange the details, as he's in Northern Ireland as I type, and then call me with the details. I'm really looking forward to seeing him, but I'm really nervous. Dad has never met Sonny's family either, so it will be amusing getting them to meet. My dad has a hard time understanding accents, and Sonny's dad is a cockney bloke that speaks in rhyming slang. So, it will be fun, for me at least.
Hope it goes great Nerves are perfectly normal, especially after 3 years. Maybe you should hire a Cockney translator just in case.
Good luck phoenix, I hope you have a great time with your dad, you must be very excited P.S. don't ask your father-in-law what going for a "board and plank" means
I've talked to my dad now more this week than I probably did all last year. I'm picking him up at the airport on Saturday at 11:20am, and he leaves Sunday at 5:30pm. So short visit, but should be memorable and meaningful and I'm such a kid cos I just want to hug my daddy so bad.
