I tried anti-anxiety meds a while back. It took the edge off, but it left me a drone. I realized it's the edge that makes me who I am, so as long as I can function, I can do without the prescription lobotomy, thanks anyway doc. To some extent, "functioning" involves identifying and avoiding situations and environments that lead to anxiety, or depression. I also smoke weed, but I don't smoke a lot at a time, just a few puffs to make me mellow and get me through the day. I figure herbs in their natural state that grow in the ground tend to be better than synthesized chemicals, provided they're not poisonous. I don't think I'm "clinical", despite what the pusher shrink (mis)diagnosed, so my approach might not work for everyone, but I think an awful lot of people are on prescription meds to profit the pharmaceutical industry, not because they need to be. There are exceptions, however.
If you know how to use shrooms correctaly it's exellent for figuring out what is truly going on in your mind and then the rest is up to you. At lest for me. However this is more for personal depression, not chemical depression. If you have a depression cause by chemicals, odd are shroms or lsd w/e won't work as there won't be anything to discover in terms of that... That's the pretty much my self medication in terms of depression. J.C
There's a difference between personal depression and chemical depression, no doubt, but I dunno where to draw the line (if I did I'd be hangin' a shingle outside my door like some of my friends, and they're still speculating). 'Shrooms are my favorite, just munched some last night, and I'm sure as hell not depressed. The bottom line is anything that facilitates getting in tune with the underbelly of who you are is desirable. I used to drop acid and it worked wonders for a fucked up child hood, 'cause I could stand outside myself and look in with a non judgemental mind (you need to disconnect yourself from your ego to make it work). Figure out who you are, accept it, then you're good to go.
