Questions on growing shrooms

I want to start growing shrooms, but I have no experience whatsoever. Is it possible to grow it in a jar in my closet without anyone noticing? And if it does smell, could i put it in a jar outside somewhere? And how much would it cost to start growing? I don't want much, I just want some for myself.

 

There isn't much of a smell to them. You could do it in your closet, if you are dedicated enough. It is pretty easy, really, but make sure you have access to a pressure cooker or an autoclave. If you don't, you could do some ghetto sterilization, but sterilization is the biggest key to a successful grow, so I don't like to half ass it. Also, when buying spores, you'll probably end up buying a syringe, and those will innoculate somewhere around 8-12 jars (half pint shoulderless canning jars). Your best bet would be a tupperware container of some sort so you can maintain heat and humidity. You'll need to fan them at the very least once a day, and everything needs to be clean. Let's see what kind of expenses you'd have:

Jars
Syringe
Pressure cooker
Tupperware container (2 if you build an incubator)
Spray bottle
Heating pad
Perlite
Vermiculite
Organic Brown Rice Flour
Alcohol
Thermo/hygro

Lighting is not that big of an issue. After your cakes have incubated and colonized, they need to be exposed to some sort of ambient light to signal the mushrooms to start growing. If you make it this far, you have to think about how you will preserve the mushrooms (unless you eat them fresh). You can leave them out in a high airflow area, or spring for a food dehydrator (not too much heat though). I know I missed some shit, so anybody feel free to add info. Go to shroomery.org. Shrooms are Hard to grow, you dont just place some seeds and they grow ..

You have to have the right enviroment
Spores(They Don't Grow from seeds as you know)
Experience helps
The right equipment
A purpose, no point in growing for yourself. Unless you have you have a steady income
And most of all . .Knowlegde

The two things i say the most
Shrooms arn't a party drug
And Reserch alot about growing,Different Methods, how they work, What you need . . .
Then come onto this forum and then ask for help
