I love animals and have been wanting to go to the zoo to see a bunch that I never get to see. I think dropping acid and going to the zoo to see and connect with the animals would be a cool and fun experience. Maybe I'm just crazy. I wanted to bring my boyfriend so we could both do it, because we both love animals (and each other, lol). Think it would be a fun day.

I live near NYC so I was thinking about going to the Central Park Zoo. This won't be for awhileeeeee but I thought I'd get some feedback on the idea.

    Thoughts?

Go for it! animals are always interesting on acid. the zoo could be a lot fo fun, though you might not like seeing animals imprisoned. since you'll be in public don't take a huge dose.

i love animals as well and my wife and i went last summer. we were not tripping at the time but we trip often.

we were actually very disappointed. we felt sorry for the poor animals. it is not like a pet where the animal is a part of the family. the hardest thing to see was a bald eagle in a cage - that is not the life for a bird like that - let it fly. or the panther pacing back and forth - let it run free!

we liked seeing all the animals but we just couldn't get past the fact that a zoo is so very wrong. we spent a lot of money that day and i feel guilty being a part of that.

Yeah, I don't like seeing animals in cages either. Especially birds because they need room to fly around.

The Minnesota Zoo has some very nice and acceptable animal exhibits, and I was thinking of an experience like that, though I don't know what the zoos are like around here.

as soon as i read the question on this thread i thought "bad idea--bad scene" the guilt will eat you alive. i thought that before i realized my hubby had already replied to your post. i'm 3xi's wife and just as he said we felt sooooo guilty being there that day. its a glorified prison. i've been to the central park zoo in NY--not much different.
do you have pets. tripping out with your pets is fun....or in the summer go camping and trip--animals will be drawn to you.

ya dude i know what you mean. the first time i ever went to a zoo was a couple months ago, we went to jacksonville zoo. actually the cages were not too bad except for one. they had this big ass bear in this little bitty cage and he was totally depressed and pissed off. i think if he could of he would have killed everyone that was staring at him. he just paced back and forth nonstop like all day long. it's cool to see them all but it is sad.

I would probably have a bad trip. Zoos are disgusting. Humans capturing animals and using them as entertainment for other humans. How would you like to be in a cage and be exposed to hundreds of closed minded idiots looking at you everday? I would much rather find animals in the wild.

I and my friend have been talking about going to the everglades to trip frequently. This seems dangerous but I have a feeling we would be just fine. Now THAT would be interesting.
If you are going to a zoo to trip, make sure to go on a day that is not crowded. It also makes sense to go to a really nice zoo. Some zoos might give you a bad caged animal feeling more than others.

I agree with the above posters... sound like a lot of fun, but then again, cages aren't the coolest things.

am I missing something? I thought most zoos were pretty good because they often try to repopulate depleted species and nurture animals that were maimed in the wild, and a lot of the money you give them goes to worthy environmental causes. Maybe all that isn't worth an imprisoned animal.

It might be unnatural, but everything about our civilization is. I don't think the animals are generally suffering. maybe the ones that were taken from the wild, but aren't most of them born in captivity? THey're kind of like us sheltered, well-fed westerners. They don't realize that they've been cheated out of knowing their natural roots, just like we've cheated ourselves out of communion with our own natural roots.

I often feel sad for the native americans that early american expansionists exploited and stole from. They had a sacred and symbiotic relationship with the earth, believing that a man couldn't own a piece of the earth, the earth owned him. Then they were infiltrated by a people whose way of living was plundering the earth's resources and detaching themselves from their natural roots. I believe the natives were much more majestic and noble than the capitalist invaders.

What's my point? you can liken it to animals in the wild vs. animals bred in captivity at the zoo. The next time you feel sad for the animal that's incarcerated, know that you are also trapped in a virtual cage, and you're just as detached from your original habitat. So you can conclude that the captive animal is just as happy as you are.

That's quite an interesting way to look at things. I had never though of that before. It's true to an extent. If the animal was raised in captivity then it really has no way of knowing what life is like otherwise. But, unlike humans, animals have tuned instincts and needs. They aren't humanized, they're wild. I'm not sure that even if an animal was raised in captivity, if they'd be truly happy in their never-changing environment. It might be like being trapped in your house all the time and never, ever leaving. Though we think on a different plane then animals.....

The Central Park Zoo is cool in its own way, but so small. I would go to the Bronx Zoo, they have way cooler things. Like where you see the tigers, there's only this glass sepparating you from the animal, is beyond awesome and the gorila thing is super cool too.
I dont know about you, but when Im in the zoo, sober, I get sad and I have this feeling inside me that I want to free all the animals, that could be dangerous on LSD
