Are we incriminating ourselves by discussing our illegal drug use?

I saw this article here about a guy being investigated because of his internet posts and wondered if the same could happen to one of use: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/jail-guard-busted-for-incriminating-city-of-heroes-forum-posts/

Maybe we can only be persecuted for being physically caught with LSD, but I don't know I'm not a lawyer. None of the drug users/dealers I have known (former or current) have gone to the slammer. Many were punished and put in a special subset of my school. I don't know how much has been know to the teachers about the drug dealing of these drug users. I don't know what would happen if they were turned into the police. Could I loose an opportunity to be a Computer Science professor If I was discovered to have used LSD in the past or present for insights into computer science problems?

I've recently become more paranoid and I'm thinking about NOT extolling psychedelics on Facebook even though I don't mentioning my personal experience.

I hope people here don't start talking in a manner that dodges around LSD use anecdotes and stuff. That would make the atmosphere very much less open. Maybe I'm too paranoid, I hope so.

No, it's not ilegal to talk about ilegal drugs, it's only ilegal to posess, buy, sell, or take them. Talking about them, I imagine, can only land you in trouble when you talk about having them on your person, or making an online hookup to meet up and exchange money for drugs. This is why Skip posted a sticky in the main forum called No Ilegal Activity :D

You have to be physically caught with something, or otherwise somehow be tied to it in real life. As with anything else, police need evidence to arrest you and even if they did based on what they found you posting on here, the mere confession of a crime isn't going to hold up in court. Imagine what kind of fear we'd be living in if you could be arrested for words and nothing else?

HEY POLICE, IF YOU'RE READING THIS I'VE KILLED SOMEONE AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY LYING DEAD IN MY BASEMENT. Give me a break.

Anyway, let go of the fear.

Wait, so if I mentioned the name of my 'cid provider that would be totally not incriminating for him and not count as evidence against him and prompt no investigation? Are you sure?

Never mention names when it comes to drugs. Look up "security culture" for more info.

Thank you for the pointer Alaxsxa. I just read this booklet on security culture: security.resist.ca/personal/securebooklet.pdf

it says one should not mention other's advocacy of illegal actions

So I should not advocate the use of psychedelics for expanding the mind and increasing empathy(...) on facebook? I will point my drug provider to the security culture handbook he may find it a life saver if he is not already knowledgeable on security culture.

you got nothing to worry about unless you have a gram of LSD crystal lying around and your discussing it on here. i doubt the police would waste there time on small timers for a few hits, since its most likely the hits discussed are already consumed or will be consumed.

keep it mind once youve consumed the acid or whatever substance it is you cannot be charged with the only thing they can charge you with (possesion) unless your out in the street causing trouble in which case theyll throw you with "under the influence" and "disturbing the peace". i never have anything on me more then i could eat quickly.

id rather eat 15 or so hits then go to jail.

oh yeah and dont ever mention a dealers name, its not good for anyone accept the police and do you really want to help them out??

I wasn't thinking of mentioning the street pharmacist's name especially because I like him. I was just throwing that out there to express a constraint to RELAYER's point.

People pretend on the internet all the time.

Just say you created a fictional persona.

There is no federal law in the U.S. that prohibits being under the influence of controlled substances (including LSD).

I would also like to add that this is an international forum and the laws for what is legal and illegal (not just LSD but any drugs in general), are not the same in every country. Such as, Kratom being illegal in Thailand but completely legal in Canada. Also some peoples experiences may be from a time before a certain drug was outlawed or also some experiences maybe from legal religious or medical (UDV, Native American Church, Medical Marijuana, or other valid research studies, etc).

some places in canada they can arrest you under the "mental health act". basically what that means is that if a cop thinks that you are not mentally well, even if he knows that it is temporary from the drugs, he can take you to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and we all know what a psychiatrist is going to think of someone on LSD or other drugs. in other words cops can arrest you for being high if they want to. you are not charged with anything but they will probably lock you up for a couple of weeks, fill you with government drugs and try to convince you that drugs are bad. if you don't behave in the hospital or you forget that you should pretend that you agree with them they will keep you longer. i think some cops actually think they are doing a wonderful thing by bringing someone who is high on drugs into the hospital to 'get help'.

3xi - If a person is out in public and acting really wierd(sober or not) in front of police then it would not suprise me that they would get hassled by them.

you don't have to be out acting weird in public to be harrassed by a cop here in canada. you could be at home getting high on "certain" drugs (lsd, crystal meth) etc. if someone calls to report you, men in white coats show up. the mental health act claims that anyone on those types of drugs are automatically psychotic and a danger to themselves or others. its not so bad in ontario (the pigs couldn't keep up) but in bc where there is a huge crystal meth problem the police use the act as a cart blanche to do whatever the fuck they want and local citizens support it because they are terrified of meth and meth users. there is so much negative propoganda about lsd--its the same.

well as far as im concerned meth is fucked up anyways. i agree with them being strict on that. where i live there is a place called "methingham". it's a play on words of a county here where a lot of people make meth. you always see on tv people blowing themselves and others up, not to mention all the crime methheads do. this guy stole 5 cars in one day on meth, and then ran someone down in the street. there are some drugs i really do think should be illegal.

    what an ignorant comment!

you think anyone who does meth is a criminal. thats prejudice my friend.

innocent until proven guilty... in other words you can not arrest someone before they commit a crime just because you think that they will soon commit a crime because they like to get high.

also, it is not only meth users that cops will arrest like this. i know of a few cases where it happened to someone who was tripping on LSD.

arrest someone for stealing a car - sure. but you can not arrest anyone who does the same drug as someone who stole a car because you assume that they will eventually steal a car to.

i am trying not to be pissed off by your ignorant comment - you are a part of the problem.

if someone is having a bad trip on lsd and a friend or family member calls the cops or hospital they can bring you in against your will. you don't have to be freaking out and we all know that a bad trip is not something that needs hospitalization. even if you are doing fine but a friend or family member is afraid because you are saying strange things or doing too much (in their opinion) they can have the authorities bring you in to the hospital against your will.

basically you have to be like you say - out in public making a fool of yourself, or you could be unfortunate enough to have people around you who don't think that you shouldn't be getting high call the cops on you. believe it or not this happens all the time and it doesn't matter what drug you are on. i know of one girl who got locked away because she likes to talk to the birds when she smokes pot. because she actually believes and openly admits that the birds talk back to her they think she is not sane enough to contribute to society and have locked her away.

if you are in canada and you want to get high - make sure you are around people you can trust. and watch what you say to certain people.

and this is not about being 'hassled'. this is about being locked away, having your rights and freedoms taken from you with out just cause. no judge, no jury, just a cop and a psychiatrist is all they need to lock you up.

Meth(methamphetamine hydrochloride) was prescribed for ADHD. The hydrochloride is just for helping it absorb into you I don't think changes the effects of the drug. So it seems that meth can be used responsibly without(I think) relevantly more harm than other ADHD drugs.
