Hi guys. New to the forums and would first like to say a big hello to everyone here. I'm off to Amsterdam next week (28th Jan - 2nd Feb). Its a spur of the moment thing and my first time there. My concern is having no credit card to reserve accomodation in a hostel I'm gonna be getting off the plane and needing to find somewhere to crash. I've read up on not getting places from anyone on the street, and was thinking of trying one of the Flying Pigs or the Stayokay Stadsdoelen Hostel if theres still beds when I get there. I was wondering whether any of you guys here have done the same thing and whether you can just walk in and pay cash or is a credit card required? Because its late Jan/early Feb I'm hoping the hostels will not be booked to capacity, but of course I dont fancy a week dossing on the streets if its not a viable option. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.
You will find not alot of places will take a credit card and more often than not they will take cash.I used my C.C. to reserve my hotel so I have it when I arrive then I pay off the bill in cash.
hey Gonzo, i was in Amsterdam 2 summers ago, and stayed at a great hostel called the inner amsterdam hotel. its located in a beautiful spot right down the street from a badass park, and it's at a good spot that makes it easy to get around all over the city. INNER AMSTERDAM HOTEL - Wanningstraat 1 1071 LA Amsterdam, Netherlands Tel: (31)20 662 5792 from central station, you get on tram 2 or 5, get off at van gogh museum and walk a short way. hope that helps, friend! have fun and stay away from the blue lit windows (there not real ladies!)
So you guys think it'll be cool finding a hostel straight off the plane? If it is thats a weight off my mind. Thanks for the recommendation Deanmono, do you know if the Inner Amsterdam Hotel is a smokers hostels. I assume most are but obviously I'm not going to the Dam for the tulips alone!
smokers hostel??? well, while i was there, i smoked hash and downed some shrooms in my room, then went to the park thats two blocks away to smoke a couple of bowls, then went across downtown to try out a couple of "cafes". you can smoke anywhere, preatty much.
