Hi! In the early '70s there were some films with the 'establishment vs the hippies' theme. 'Billy Jack' was the name of one of the films. There were also a whole bunch of long-haired biker flicks like "Hells Angels '69" (I do believe they were themselves in that one!) I saw one recently on tv and it was a hoot! "Harold & Maude" is also a good one,he's a young guy in love, she's an elderly, quirky character who loves him back. It's very sweet. These aren't indies, just oldies! ;)

Easy Rider is a classic, though the ending is depressing as hell.

Detroit Rock City is a great movie. It's not really hippie themed, but it's all about friends, drugs, music, and sticking it to the man.

Outside Providence is another good one.

People who stink of bongwater and talk tedious shit all the time have told me to watch "Koyaaniqatsi" (sp??), I haven't done it yet, but supposed to have a really good Philip Glass soundtrack, so I may yet seek it out. It's about a load of hippie enviromental stuff that I really don't care much for.

Look for "WIthnail and I" it's a classic. It was directed by Bruce Robinson and is Richard E Grant's first film, as well as Paul McGann's (a "doctor who"). The basic premise is two guys in Camden Town, London, 1969. There's practically no plot, but the dialogue is hilarious and the infamous "Camberwell Carrot" joint is the stuff of legend.

If you like Withnail & I, it's worth checking out How To Get A Head In Advertising: Bruce Johnson and Richard E GRant again, also with Richard WIlson. It has more of a plot, it's just a bit fucked up.

Nice one to watch after a pure spliff, not really anything to do with any hippie movement, just lots of unconected films with a wicked Philip Glass soundtrack, kinda mesmerises ya when ya watch it, it would bore the tits of some folk, which is why its one I like to watch on a BIG screen when off my nuts.

'The Beat' (* nope not the one about Kerouac and menagerie). Kid comes out of nowhere and starts spittin' crazy rymes. Ends up in the water. Creates crazy catalyst for his friends. Early 80's, set in NYC. The beat bum bum , the beat, bah bah........

I just saw this amazing movie last nite on the Independent Film Channel with an all star cast. It's pretty much one of those druggie movies. It is entitled Spun-It's real cool. (about methamphetamine users)John Leguizamo, Mena Suvari, Brittany Murphy, Debbie Harry, The lead singer guy of Judas Priest(can't think of his name),Mickey Rourke,Alexis Arquette(as his male self),Eric Roberts(he is so hott!-but plays a gay man in this 1.)and some other familiar faces...It is really cool but unfortunately I didn't see it from the begining...So.., maybe I'll catch it again, download it or rent it.
Have any of u guys seen this awesome movie?!!

Very pleasant film to watch about a travelling band. One of them is a hippie.

"Bandwagon". Each member is so incredibly different, and that's what makes it worth watching. Yet it's very realistic too.

I think it was around late 90's. As you watch it you can't believe how realistic it is, as if the actors are just playing themselves and the story is actual.
A line I allways liked form that and which will be my signature:

"Him? Oh well, you canfind him between the tangerine trees and the marmalade skies".

Hello, yep. I've seen it like three times. Kept renting it to show to my friends. I think they really got the whole speadfreak thing down.(the movie, not my friends[IMG]) It's a trip.

btw, I got to thinking about movies I've seen and I can't remember the name of the movie but there's a movie about Woody Guthries life that's great. arg, sometimes I just can't remember stuff like that. Anybody know the name of that movie, cuz I'd like to find it and watch it again.
