How do they work? I'm in no way a heroin addict, but is it possible to go in there looking strung out and try to get on the program to get the methadone for my own recreational usage?
I'm going to take a wild stabe and say that this would be far more costly than it would be worth. Not in actual dollars maybe...but there is a price to be paid, I'm sure.
No, at least here, the prescreening requires: You are 18 years of age or older. Opiates are your primary drug. You have been addicted or dependent on opiates for 1 year or longer (minimum 1 year) and you can prove this by one of the following methods: previous treatment with this clinic letter from a physician or previous treatment center observable physical dependence; i.e. classic withdrawal symptoms, track marks, etc. and that is just the prescreening. If you manage to fool them somehow, then you are signing up to become addicted since you have to go there every day to take it, and at least for the first few years, they aren't going to let you take anything out of the clinic. They watch you. And that is just a bad idea because not only is methadone withdrawl worse than heroin withdrawl, but your tolerance will go up when they are trying to get it to go down (so when you need it, you can't really get enough) and you might have trouble getting jobs/houses/etc since your name will be on a list of junkies... So, basically, I had the same idea, I looked into it, and it is better to just find somebody who has been on it a while and can get you some of theirs' or just get some dope...
Just like maybejusthappy says above you have to pass all there requirments to get on the clinic. First off your only 17 you have to be atlest 18. some clincs are 21. For me to get on the clinic that I am on now, I had to show proof of atleast 2 rehabs I went to in the past for opiates.I had to have 2 urines with opiates in them, And the counsolers still did not want me on they wanted me to go to a long term rehab.Its very hard ot get on they only take the most at risk patients.And the counsolers are not ass holes they know if you are a hard core opiate addict or not,you are a 17 year old kid the odds of you being a hard core Herion addict who has a huge habbit is slim to none. Also the big question is why in the world would any one want to go on Methadoone ? Its not a drug used to get high when taken every day.You would get high of it for about a week and then all it would do is work like it sapose to and block all other opiates and you would feel nothing from it at all, So in return you would not be able to get high at all off any opiates at all. It just makes no sence at all. Is a week or so of getting high worth being addicted to methadone and then having to kick it ? Take this into acocunt Methadone is buy far the hardest opiate to kick becasue of how long its half life last, Would the hell of the withdrawl be worth it !!!!!

It wouldn't be labeled "junkie list," but you think the clinic doesn't have a list of patients? And you think the government and lots of other people can't get access to these lists with computers today? And people who get methadone are those with severe opiate addictions. There is no other reason for somebody's name to be there, so each person on that list is assumed to be a junkie. Maybe if general practitioners administered methadone, it might be more discreet, but mostly its just methadone clinics... Besides the plethora of other reasons not to go through with this stupid idea...
Dude you just can't get any ones name who is on methadone. Its Doctor client confidentiality, No ones name can be given out, Methaonde clinics are very very confidential and proteact there patients.

Salmon is correct that there is infact a list for ADDICTS on methadone, not those for the other reason like pain and such. And its not really a stupid idea, just another way to try and find a more legal way, but it really is a bad idea to try it, because in the end you will be fucked over like an addict thats been busted for drugs meaning its a bitch to get a loan, join the service and so forth. Plus, from what my mother tells me ( not like that, she is a addictions counsular.. lol i know purty ironic) that it really does a number on you in the extreme of heroin, but the high is no where near as good. Its really just for people wanting a fix and don't have the money for anything better. If thats the case just go take some DXM its a trip plus your not there like a disassoct. (plus the revalations are that of no other psyco)
Ok please show me this methadone black list or how to get a copy of it. If you don't know how to get it or obatin it please don't say there is one because you are talking out your ass pretty much. It would be very Illegal for any methadone clinic to post a list of there patients to the public. It would be like a psychiatrist posting a list to the public of people who have a mental Illness.You can't there are laws against that which guard a patient.!!!! And Joey your post above shows me you know nothing at all about methadone. I have been on Meethadone now for over 3 years and feel better then I ever have.And its not somethig junkies go on when they can't afford Herion, This made me laugh my ass off. Methadone cost more $$$ then Herion. And it is not worse for you then Herion, Its when I was strung out on Herion and painkillers that I felt like shit. Now that I am on methadone I feel like I have my life back and feel better then ever.Dude please do a little reading up on Methadone and whats it used for and its affects on the human body before you post !!!The way you sound is like a person is better off Sticking a needle in there arm every day and having a $300 Herion habbit, And robbing and stealing to support there Herion habbit rather then going on Methaodne. reason not do go: WITHDRAWL. ever been through heroin withdrawl, methadone withdrawl is 10 times worse, and it lasts at least two weeks, for me it was a month before i felt normal again. and i was on methadone for less than a year. so unless you have a 200 dollar a day habit, i would not reccomend a methadone clinic. another reason: 12 dollars a day (unless you find a rare public clinic). clinics are there to make money, it cost 50 cents per dose of methadone, and they charge at least 10 bucks a day to dose. methadont.
Now floydfreak gives a great reason why not to go on methadone. Kicking Methadone is the hardest opiate out of all opiates to kick. becasue the half life is so long and it stays in your body for so dam long,the withdrawls go on forever and are horrible. Old school Herion addicts have told me they would rather kick a 10 bag Herion habbit a day 10 times over then kick Methadone oucne !!!
I the withdrawls are physically worse than heroin or morphine's, its just longer, so I guess a prolonged heroin type withdrawl is worse than a shorter one?
