We have vivid hallucinations every night during REM sleep with no reality testing but this is harmless. Right now the only differences I see in the altered reality aspect of the two are the physical safety methods and that in dreams we have total loss of contact with the real world. The safety method in dreaming is physical paralysis(in sleepwalkers this is missing) and the saftey method in an lsd trip is a trip sitter.

Are lsd hallucinations as harmless as dreams?, that would be a good point to argue with against lsd critics "it warps your view of reality" argument if it's true. I only have a little bit of personal experience with acid at low dosage so far at the time of this posting so its hard for me to compare the experiences. Does the danger of lsd only come from not having the right environment and people around with the sensitive, powerful and hypersuggestible thinking during a trip?

So, why are people so afraid to see an alternate reality in a trip but not in a dream?

I've tripped in dreams a couple of times..thats neither dangerous or safe. I mean, imagine that - thinking you could fly in your dream, and falling to your death. and we all know that if you die in the matrix, you die in the real world too.

    sitters are for babies

for your first few trips you should be with one or a few people that you trust that you can talk to if you need to. best if these people are tripping with you. if they are not tripping with you, you have to wonder why not? what ever the persons reasons for not tripping are will become a part of the collective trip. if a person around you thinks that you are crazy for doing LSD that will become a part of your trip and is something you could do without. if the person is going to be sober so that they can make sure you are ok then you are just asking for trouble.

you don't need a trip sitter, but you might need someone to talk to. the best people to talk to when you are tripping is other people who are tripping as well - for some reason they are more on your level. it is more likely that someone will be of help to you if they are on your level.
