I don't know where to go. I know this sounds a bit bizarre but I shall be re-locating (something I do a lot. I have spent more years abroad than in my native UK) in the next couple of months and I don't know where I should settle. I shall be there for a couple of years (due to work, which isn't dictating where I should move to either as I'm freelance) and I would like a bit of inspiration. I'm going out there for a few days next month to have a look around but would appreciate it if someone could steer me in the right direction. I'm 38, love live music, still a bit of a party animal but as I'm going to be working mainly from home, need somewhere quiet-ish to live. Any ideas anyone?

Try the island of Texel. That is where I live It is only an our and a half away from Amsterdam, you will find peace, quietness, as well as a brilliant night life (except in winter).

well, I would discourage you to go zaandam, i used to live there and the last time I went back I sensed a lot of up tightness and agressivenes.

nowadays I live in Middelburg, in the province zeeland, and I like it a lot better here. we have a lot of nice cafés overhere each of them attracting their own crowd. in the summer this place is overrun by german tpourists though. but than again, all those germans only come overhere because they like it so much :p BTW there are a lot of old pretty buildings overhere, some more obvious than others

hahha I live in Hoogezand, near Groningen (10 minutes by car), very boring village.. :S But Groningen is nice.
It's a small country, so just check out some places, and see what you like.

I offer account management and customer service as a consultant. So I'm employed by companies who need their clients looking after. Most of the time I'm on the phone but I need to jump on a plane at least once a month to go and visit clients and give them a big re-assuring hug.

It's great working from home but I do need to be able to get out and socialize and practice my hugging of course.:)
