So I've been on a crazy exercise buzz for a couple of months. I definitely have gained more muscle. My t-shirts are tighter on the chest and shoulders. My waistline is the same, so I'm not getting skinnier. Anyway, today, I weighed myself and I weigh 8 pounds less. Now if muscle weighs more than fat, how is this possible?
Don't know- perhaps you've lost water weight. Stomach and intestine contents make a difference as well.
Muscle does weight more then fat. If you want to build some weight, you'll probably burn off a lot of fat first. You won't be replacing the muscle and fat equally. It takes a while to build a lot of muscle, depending on your build. Unless you dope of course... then the possibility of ball cancer comes to play though.
No, they could be shrinking or it could be wishful thinking on my part. I mean I'm not much bigger than I was, and I was small. But I'm definitely not smaller. I don't really ever pay attention to weight and I couldn't care less what the scales actually reads. I just thought it was strange. Maybe, if's because I cut my hair and shaved and clipped my toenails. That's all gotta weigh something.
So a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat. If it's denser, that means that even at the same size, with more muscle, I should weigh more.
Unless you had a mother load of dreads I doubt the sum total of clippings will be a significant portion of your weight loss. You've noted some gain in your chest and shoulders but the biggest muscle groups are in your back and legs. When body tissue is metabolized muscle and fat goes together and because fat has less vascular access, muscle will tend to be favored... especially when you're left with stubborn fat deposits in the stomach and hips (love handles). You don't need a history of being overweight to have them either.
No dreads, but you should've seen the length of my toenails. Seriously though, thanks for the explanation.;
On one hand I've made weightlifting and health a part of my lifestyle and an outlet for my obsessive side... on the other... there's so much more to know than what I know. Research my friend. Physical shape and health have as much to do with what you put in your body as it does with what you do with it.
Which weighs more, a pound of muscle of a pound of fat? Hahahahh no muscle does not weigh more than fat. Simple answer - you lost more fat than what you gained in muscle
