so heres the deal, i need to make 50 cookies with an oz and couple g's of shwag. im not sure if i made the cannabutter the right way. what i did was first put a cup and a half of water in the pan, let it boil, then put the 4 sticks of butter in.

after the butter melted i put it on simmer and then put in the chopped up weed. i let it cook for a total of 40 mins. i took off the lid occasionaly to mix the weed around a bit. i turned the heat up to high 3 or 4 times too make sure all the thc was absorbed for about 10-15 secs. im concerend about this becuase i heard if it boils (which it did on hight) all the thc is burned off.

i later put paper towels in a strainer and filterd it through that. i heard chesse cloth would be better but was the way i did it ok?i now have the butter in a tupperware under my bed. tomarrow i have to empty the water out right? or did it all evaporate becuase i didnt use that much and a lot of steam was coming out every time i opened the lid.

i will post pics tonight when my cameras charged. Thanks for any help.

Kinda sounds like you might have burnt a good bit of the thc off. The butter should still work, just won't be quite as potent. But i could be completely wrong because i don't really mess with cooking MJ.

i´ve never heard of burning off thc when making butter. you dont want to burn the butter, because that would make it taste bad. to avoid this, use a double boiler: a pot half full of of boiling water with a smaller pot in that, in which you put your weed+water+butter mixture.

sounds like you did everything pretty much OK. i wouldnt worry about any loss of potency. but maybe keep it in the refridgerator instead of under your bed.

im not sure but i really doubt that boiling would destroy the THC. i dont think that boiling water is hot enough to destroy THC. i would say if the butter thats on top of the water is a pretty green you go most of the THC out of the marijuana.

wow, OK, i did give a bad response at first. Like i said, i very rarely mess with cooking with MJ. But from what i've read and from what the good book says, your supposed to bring it to a boil. So, from what you explained, there is no reason your cannabutter shouldn't turn out just fine. Have fun with the cookies bud.

when eating weed cookies (well, weed ANYTHING), i find it good to have a relatively empty stomach and be sober. i like to experience the full effect of the body buzz without a heady buzz getting in the way. after i´m well into it, i might smoke, but i probably dont have to because i´m already so blazed from the cookie.

if you´re going to go through all the trouble of making the butter, then the cookies, you might as well appreciate it in all its glory.

I'd really like to know how it turns out. Can you post how they come out when you cook em?

The THC does not get destroyed from boiling water. Boiling water reaches a temperature of 100 degrees centigrade. That's far from the THC boilingpoint ... don't worry. THC doesn't evaporate/get's ruined after a temperature of max. 150 degrees (or maybe 145, you can easily look this up).

The only way you can fuck the THC is by baking your cookies at a too high temperature. Which probably have to be cooked at a temperature below 150 degrees centigrade anyhow.

Why don't you sample the budder to see how it turned out, a little on some toast or something, before you think it didn't turn out right. What I would be concerned with is that you didn't cook it long enough. Some people cook it for 4-6 hours, other as long as 20-24 hours. While everyone is telling you the boiling point of water is 212 you brought a butter/water mixture containing the pot up to a boil and not water and pot up to a boil. The smoke point of butter is around 350 and that is cutting it close. See it's kind of unclear as whether your butter was really that high as the water will boil off before 350, cause bubbles, and may make the butter look like it's boiling. So you have boiling, simmer, smoking etc. Anyway too high isn't good, not long enough isn't good either. Obviously you want a low and long cooking process. Plus it really needs to be stored in the freezer. I don't know how long one or two days at room temp will affect it but it should be frozen. Other mistakes include not grinding the pot fine enough.

I think you have some active cannabudder but it won't be as potent as it could have been. Still got the weed you used? If so mayber you can cook it again.
