i did quite a few events this summer and my favorite show was only 45 minutes away- the dead in hartford!!!!!!!!
i have to say jerrys was good but nothing could replace the dead at bonnaroo....... that opening made my whole year!!
yeah the dead were awesome this summer. way past my expectations. phish, however, let me down. i wish the dead were playing this fall.
Dunno if this counts as summer, but definitely The Acoustic Planet Tour in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. Keller, YMSB, And Bela Fleck and the Flecktones ROCKED THE FUCKIN' HOUSE! Awesome, awesome show.
Phish did not let me down .... i caught a few of their shows and they were awesome. Do you think the dead do much touring next summer?
hmmmm..... i would have to say.......... the deadwith mr warren haynes @ pnc got me movin' ymsb really got the dust flyin Addison groove really jammed is summer really gone.......its heartbreaking
Unfortunately my summer was short on live show fun, kinda stuck in Florida. I did have a blast at the Medicinal Marijuana Rally in May in NYC - Dave Nelson band and Stir Fried played. and I did get to see The Dead in Atlanta to end their tour, which in itself made my summer a success for me. After seeing them for 15 years, the feeling is still the same - nothing better than seein' the boys play!
the dead bonnaroo was amazing!!!!! my favorite fest would have to be bonnaroo, but i had a real good time at phish and the dead at deer creek, and summercamp is really nice too cuz its not too far from home
Bonnaroo was the shit! The Cheese did it best for me, cause I was right up front and it was fuckin awsome! The Dead I was too far back to really have that special bond with the band, but it was still awsome. Medeski Martin and Wood also made my Bonnaroo complete. Somethin about thier music just makes me trip about 10x harder - complete insanity. Phish also did not let me down. I caught the Mansfield, MA show on my way up to Coventry and that was so awsome! I would have been very sad indeed if I had never seen Fishman play the vaccume. Coventry was awsome! Very sad, insanely muddy but I would not have missed that for the world. I wasn't really expecting Phish to be playing at thier best because of the emotional stress they were obviously under. They still rocked it hard and it was awsome!
i've been going to phish shows since 1990. i saw 2 spac, 2 mansfield and coventry. i've also managed to make it to all the big phish camp outs over the years and quite a few in between. something was differen't for me this year. i started to notice it at spac and tweeter even more so. i felt somehow that the crowd had changed a bit and except for coventry, i didn't have that at home feeling i had with the dead this summer. also the amount of garbage at coventry really pissed me off. we left our campsite spotless and for what? it was a long slow drive out of that wasteland. maybe it's partly just a matter of crowd size?
well, i liked the dead in hartford. but summer's not over yet man, still got harvest fest, which be fun.
The best festival I went to this year was called Mannerland. It is a small, private party that is held in North Carolina each year. Barefoot Manner, a ridiculously fun "newgrass" band, is the host, and they play a Friday and Saturday night shows, coupled with a quick Sunday set. There are also other bands on the roster, so music is playing all day. Mannerland is twice a year, and "citizenships" have to be bought ahead of time. Ticket sales are limited to the first 500 ticket purchasers, and all tickets have to be postmarked ahead of time. That has also successfully kept the authorities away from our good time, up to this point. North Carolina has a separate government agency, the CORRUPT Alcohol Law Enforcement agency, that gets happy go lucky trying to bust up the festival scene here in North Carolina. Keeping the party "private," not only provides for small festival intimacy, it keeps the authorities out of our hair. (on an unrelated note, get out and VOTE... Repeal the Patriot Act!) Mannerland is the BEST... HIGHly recommended...
Barefoot Manner is really awesome group of guys... I hung out with them when they played at the Mellow Mushroom in Valdosta. There were only four poeple there for BFM, the rest were drunken frat guys there for some DJ in the next room, and I danced my little butt off in the dance floor in front of all these sorority girls, haha. There were only three people dancing and we gave it our all! We hung out with them, ate some pizza, talked a while- they are really awesome, fun, down-to-earth guys and I highly reccomend them
the dead at bonnaroo and the dead in st louis were my absolute favorites. no doubt. first time to see the dead this summer and i got to see them twice. nothing beats that shit.
