Attention New Members: Do Not Post The Following...

It has come to my attention that certain threads on here have repeated themselves a multitude of times. The author's of these threads then recieve the venom and hate of the older members who are tired of reading the same topics. Then the new members post threads about how no one loves them because they're a newbie, when in fact it is simply because we are all burnt out on certain subjects.

To make both the newbies and the older members happy, I have comprised a list of certain topics that are old and overused. If any of the old members would like to add to this list any topics I forgot, feel free to do so.

Overused Topics in the Hippies/Young Hippies Forum​

1) "Where is the love?"--Yes, sometimes we post mean things and people get bitchy. This does not mean the world is coming to an end as this is only an internet forum. If you notice bitchiness, wait a few days and every socially healthy person on here will have moved on with their lives.​

2) "What does it mean to be a hippie?"/"How do I become a hippie?"--Yes this forum is about hippies, but if you are unaware of what the stereotype of "hippie" means, please check out the books advertised on hippy.com. We, the established hipforums members, do not feel that it is our responsibility to make sure that everyone is aware of the exact definition of a modern hippie, nor do we care what that definition is. If you are still confused about the meaning of "hippie," send a Private Message (PM) to Skip and he'll be glad to tell you.​

3) "Hey, wait a minute, how come not everyone on here's a hippie?"--No shit, Sherlock, we aren't all hippies at this place. In fact, there are quite a few conservatives and politically apathetic people wandering around. I have a bit of news for you: The world is a diverse place, and that diversity makes us stronger. If you wish to live in a bubble where you only come into contact with those who agree with you on everything, go build yourself a shack in the woods because that bubble doesn't exist. If you are curious as to why a certain person who is obviously not a hippie would post on these forums, PM that person. Do not start a thread about it.​

4) "How do I convince my parents/friends/significant other/neighbors/classmates to accept me as a hippie?"--We are not here to give out advice about how to change other people. If your only problem in life is that the people around you won't accept you as a 'hippie,' consider yourself lucky.​

5) "Can you (fill-in-the-blank) and still be a hippie?"--No, you don't have to smoke pot, do drugs, be a vegitarian, go to protests, practice free love, or wear hemp jewelry to be allowed to consider yourself whatever label you choose.​

If you post any threads concerning these topics, be prepared to get attacked viciously as we will unleash our most ruthless members to maul, criticize, and kill your thread. Otherwise, everything should go smoothly.​

I do agree that those posts are quite annoying, but, I have to see their point of view. When I first came on here, not that I can remember, but I probably posted some stuff like that. Yes, it's annoying but if they feel the need to ask, I just don't read it and it doesn't upset me.

There's another school of thought, Kate, that says "If you don't like threads that people have posted, save yourself the energy - don't reply and don't participate in them".

This board belongs to everyone, not just the long-standing members.

 

Got to agree with you man, if they you can't come to a hippie forum to find out about hippies where can you go? ok so you don't feel like helping out people but i'm sure there are many that do. it isn't like there is a low bandwitdth and these threads are taking up the space of other "more important" ones.

 

I am not censoring anyone. I am providing answers beforehand so that newbies can learn the answers without having to make a thread about it. It is a "Frequently Asked Questions" type of thing. There is nothing wrong with collecting frequently asked questions an answering them (as I have done) to give newbies a good resource when they start out.

Yes, it's called a fair warning. People always end up attacking the newbies anyway, it's better to give them a head's up.

And yes, I used plural pronouns. I don't see what this has to do with "conforming." Everyone uses the word "we" at some point in their lives, it has nothing to do with where my views come from. Please elaborate about how my using a plural pronoun has to do with whether or not I am an independent thinker.

As for your attempt at insulting Pavel (BraveSirRubin), I suggest you keep your comments to yourself until you know the wonderful person that he truly is.

 

Two things about your post are sad. The first is that you are trying to play grammar and spelling police over the internet. The second is that you are noty realizing that when she said "our", she meant the Forum, a group that you yourself, by choice, chose to join.
