Anybody see Blood Diamond? I just watched it last night. I've never been a fan of any type of jewels and I was aware of what conflict diamonds are, but I now vow to never buy a diamond or any type of precious jem where it involves such oppression to get em. I know you can supposibly ask the jeweler where the diamond was mined but who would openly admit they sell conflict diamonds? I feel like such a greedy person. This movie was just about diamonds but I understand that such great oppression exist in a lot of places to get the resources WE, as in the richer nations, desire. I know blood diamonds are talked about in econ classes, but by most they are soon forgotten. To know that we have the power to stop the demand for such a product and thus would halt some of this oppression is something that needs to be taken into consideration by all involved. Anyways to get off my little rant, I thought this was a real good movie. It was a bit gory but that's what's happening. If nothing else, really thought conscious provoking and I highly recommend it.
I REALLY REALLY liked this movie. Right after I finished watching it I turned on the tv and a commercial was on for the jewerly factory, showing lots of lots of diamonds and it made me feel a bit sick. :*(
I really really liked this movie as well.. a lot of great movies have come out of late.. and this is near the top of the list.. i never liked diamonds to begin with..
The human elements of family and struggle really touched my heart. We live in the epicenter of hypocrisy my fellow Americans. Pray for peace and justice
Its a great movie; it was very well written, Leo is a great actor, so is Djimon Hounsou, and Jennifer Connelley is just plain hot ...plus great director
Leo got a lot of flack after Titanic but he really is a fucking good actor. Blood Diamond was a great movie although I got EXTREMELY upset at the scene where the young boy is forced to take drugs.
^above post: Thats what happens...they give the kids drugs so they depend on the rebels, they get hooked. Its sad but true..and to think there are still over 200,000 child soldiers in Africa
A suprisingly powerful movie and one that stays in the memory. Watched it again last week and it was still all the more powerful. Hopefully it won't be forgotton come awards time as it deserves more attention than it got.
Yeah was a great movie i bought it on DVD as soon as it came out. Leo was great in it and he pulled off the accent really good.
