Let's get those politicians' attention!

    I think you'd be the best President, but . . .
    I'M NOT VOTING FOR YOU
    .............
Like millions of Americans, I really, really, really resent being a criminal just because I like to smoke weed. It matters not a whit to me who wins any election. It's like expecting the Eloi to help pick the next Morlock leader. (From H.G. Wells' book, "The Time Machine". The Morlocks ATE the Eloi people.) Why should I care who's in charge of trying to bust me and my friends and confiscate our cars?
    .............
The last twenty-five, thirty years have been pretty bleak for pot smokers what with all the one-sided coverage. But now with the Internet, we can finally see each other and connect. (When I was in Nashville in the early '90s, I ran into several large demonstrations for the legalization of marijuana being held in front of the Federal Building on Broadway, but I never saw a word about these gatherings on "The News". But have six people protest an adult book store or a new strip club, and there'd be stories about that for days.)
    .............
Marijuana smokers are certainly a bigger voting block than the gun lobby and all of the unions, religions, and ethnic groups the politicians suck up to, but we have nothing to vote for, and there's not a single media outlet that will sell space or time for a pro-marijuana statement. So the only choice I see is to hold our votes hostage until the candidates realize the untapped flood of support they're shunning. (I recently saw that somebody is selling "I smoke pot and I vote" hats and T-shirts, but what the heck is that suppose to do? Vote for what?) (And who exactly voted to make weed IL-legal in the first place?)
    .............
There's still time to send the Presidential candidates and their handlers a message. Maybe we can neutralize some of the obscene hundreds of millions of dollars they're raising for the election and use their lust for votes to get their attention. And I'm not interested in finding a single candidate to back--so save your e-mails Ron Paul people--I want ALL the candidates vying for our potential votes "I think you're the best candidate for President, but sorry . . . I'm gonna pass on voting this time. I'm tired of being a criminal."
    .............

    PRESS RELEASE
    .............
LOS ANGELES (The Grapevine) - An ever-increasing number of the estimated 80-million American marijuana smokers, and their concerned family members and friends, tired of waiting for action by elected officials, are going to boycott the 2008 Presidential election--withholding their votes for President--to protest the continued harvesting of peaceful marijuana smokers for fun and profit. No petitions to sign, nobody to notify, no risky public demonstrations, no cash donations to make, they just won't vote for anybody for the top job in the primaries or general election. (They'll vote for everything else, just not for a President.)
    .............
The large-scale marijuana growers and suppliers don't want to see legalization, so they support anti-marijuana politicians and laws. The law enforcement and court systems that grow and prosper from the prohibition don't want any changes. So now folks who simply enjoy the pleasant sensation of a few tokes, who are tired of being exploited by both sides, being stuck in the middle of the two powerful, interdependent groups, are going to make their feelings known. They'd just like to be able to catch a friendly buzz and order pizza or make love without the fear of their front door being kicked in with guns drawn like on Cops, or even just the hassle of lawyer fees and fines, depending on what part of town they live in.

This is like trying to get everyone to stop buying gas from one company. There are several more important issues to me when voting besides marijuana.

There are 100 things more important than marijuana legalization when we go vote this year.

instead of giving up your right to vote why not find a candidate willing to end the war on drugs and get behind him/her 100%?

    And this candidate would be.........

Preferably someone who has a chance in hell to make it on the ballot also.

Ron Paul isn't going to win but at least he's got some attention.
Hillary is the most likely Democratic candidate to win.
Obama might get lucky but will most likely end up as VP. Probably safer for him because if he walks into the White House as president, you can count the days until some KKK nutcases from Alabama shoot him.
Mike Huckabee probably won't make it either but it's still a scary thought.
Mccain and Romney are a toss up.

yes of course Paul has no chance of getting on the ballot with sorry attitudes like yours. why don't you just go join all the sheeple, eat your mcD's, have 2.5 children and live in the 'burbs where it's safe. the problem is nay-sayers like you that believe nothing can change. why don't you quit your whining and do something about it.

I would rather have someone willing to stop war with iraq and war on drugs. than have this almost dictator george bush who is just a war machine and is costing the U.S millions upon billions of dollars to feed people in iraq when we should be fighting thos cocky sons of guns in Afghanistan. They started the war with us. Iraq wasnt doing any harm to anyone. Weopons of mass destruction. Have they found any of those???? No

The ideas presented in the press release you quote are misdirected. By not voting when you can you are allowing your opponents, who are voting, to make the decisions. Never abandon your vote. Use it. It may feel that your vote will make no difference, but in fact it does - it simply may not be immediately apparent.

I probably wouldn't vote for Ron if he has a chance. I'll be voting for McCain because I think a radical change is too much for us right now. Things can change for the better.

Stop pretending like we'll be BFF's with Iran tomorrow, marijuana will be legal and Social Security will last for decades.

The Clintons and the Bush's are good friends and espouse a number of the same elite vs. the rest of the world ideals. Hillary has actually attended a Bilderberg meeting. She and her husband harassed opponents through the IRS when they were in power (the Federal Income tax isn't even legal, by the way). Ever hear of Bosnia? Same mess as Iraq, sans the oil interests.

She's just another appendage of the same corruption that has plagued the U.S. for the past 100 years. Same goes for Obama (who can't explain the sustainability of anything that he's proposing, by the way).

you sound like the typical ignorant american, voting simply because hes the only choice in your popular group. Fuck mccain, watch how he answered medical marijuana questions.. he hates being asked questions by normal people, and he will continue the raids. a vote for mccain will keep promoting big business, unnecesary wars, and health insurance running based on fiscal numbers. He is such a fucking sheep, he is probably no smarter than the retarded half of america thats voting for him.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDl9XH9U8sY

He can barely even answer the question as to why medical marijuana is bad. He says "there are much more effective and uhh better treatment for pain than medical marijuana."

which is bullshit he cant even give two reasons. He only says the same word with different synonyms.
He also states if they ARE arresting sick and dying he would disagree with it. That is straight up bullshit, so if someone can get use of medical marijuana he is only ok with it if they are going to die. Umm this guys totally against the constitution and will continue to take rights as bush has started.

  15. There doesn't appear to be a top seat candidate who gives a crap about marijuana. I personally think the changes will come about with a combination of localized and national campaigns. But too often the issue is used to garner votes for someone who does an about face on the issue as soon as they're down the hall from Lincoln's bedroom. The most recent being Bill Clinton. He totally had me fooled when he played sax on Arsenio Hall and openly admitted to college students that he wouldn't mind using pot again. Once in office Clinton's hired goon Reno went to town on American rights and twisted pot into a drug that can cost you your freedom, property, children and even your life! Thanks Bill.

Oh, and the not voting at all thing sounds more like a plot to keep people from representing themselves. It just has a sinister feel. The thing to do is organize under a collective banner and then place the question to each candidate. Using those answers (real answers, not "I'm gonna look into this.....") a candidate must be selected. Then, regardless of party affiliation everyone votes for that guy (assuming he's not a maniac who also wants to tax us for breathing) and makes it very public how many votes were on the block. Of course this won't work unless pot proponents can be motivated into a singular mindset.

On the issue of the Klan, stereotypes don't further a point well. The Klan is a powerless group. For the most part all they do is print twisted literature and solicit donations from morons. They're a money machine, nothing more. However, if there was ever a form placed to their language that created a gun toting Klansman taking a shot at Obama, it would most likely come from Indiana or Florida or Texas. Alabama is just not a big Klan kind of place anymore.

Most of the Klan Watch budget at the SPLC goes to monitoring groups with no connection to Alabama. But then, they'd be out of a job if they didn't find somebody to watch. Alabama is a convenient place to lay all of this sort of thing because of history. But it is history. Remember George Wallace" "Segregation now, Segregation forever"? He was just a professional panderer. In the 70s he was overwhelmingly elected to office repeatedly by black voters. It's just as possible that someone from the black side of the hate equation might take out Obama as was the case with Malcolm X.

Racism is lame in any direction. So is bigotry.
