Load up on vitamin C, drink tons of water, eat your veggies (especially the particularly anti-viral ones like onions & garlic), breath deep, relax, and get plenty of sleep. Gargle warm salt water for your sore throat. For your sinuses, look into a neti pot (sooths and flushes the sinus cavity). Take a nice hot shower, sip on some good brothy soup or decaf green tea. If I have a sore throat, I always feel a little better after brushing my teeth with somehing refreshing and minty. TMI maybe but a soft cloth can be much nicer than tissue for when your nose starts getting red and raw from constantly blowing it.
Rent some good comedies to keep your spirits up while you're resting. Remember that it will soon pass.

To prevent it in the future you need to be sure to keep your immune system healthy by getting exercise every day and by eating nutritious, whole foods. Avoid sugar and processed anything. I'm also a big fan of a daily dose of vitamin C.

    Cold Eeze

I'd recommend buying some of these zinc Cold Eeze lozenges. They work well for me. Just take one at the first sign of a cold and it shouldn't get worse. I keep a few of these at work and in my car just in case I feel a cold comming on. Again get the lozenges not the kind you put in the nose. People have been complaining about some bad side effects of putting zinc products in their noses. Also, drink a cup of orange juice everyday.

As long as your kidneys are fine, VitC at 3grams every 3 hrs can work wonders. (adjust dose so you don't get the laxative effect). Gargling with warm water, salt and a few drops of tea tree oil also woks fab when you start to feel those first tickles in your throat - once the flu has set in, it's a bit late to be honest.

At the very first glimmer of the possibility of getting a cold or flu I will start drinking a tea mix of echinacea and lemon balm. I continue drinking it a few times a day until I feel better. I haven't gotten full blown sick since I have been doing this. Eating a healthy diet helps as well I am sure.

Freshly juiced vegetable juices (especially chlorophyll-rich green ones) clear out the lymphatic system and have antibacterial benefits.

eating raw garlic had me up and about from bronchitis in about 24 hours.

Just eat like three cloves raw. You can crush it first then cut it up and eat it like that or just cut it inito small slices and swallow like pills. It's a little harsh to the taste buds, but it's a natural anti bacterial anti viral and anti fungal.
