About 3 or 4 months ago my son, Casey started having "nightmares" and will not stay in bed. He gets up 2 to 4 times a night and comes into my room and insists on sleeping with me. At first I truly do believe he was having bad dreams but now it's just turned into a habit. I'm not kidding when I say it's been every night either (I started keeping a diary because I wanted to see if it was maybe stress related, like when his dad calls or something) . I usually walk him back to his room and wait until he falls alseep but now it's getting to the point where I'm going to pull my hair out if I don't get a good nights sleep. The interesting thing is that he stays at his grandparents house on Saturday nights and he sleeps through the night! I don't understand it. I should also mention 1) he's 7 and 2) we just moved into this new place 3 weeks ago. I know moving is stressful for kids and I would say that his coming in and waking me up every night is because of that but he was doing it way before we even moved or knew we were moving. Since we've been here he says he sees things in his bedroom waving at him and he wakes up and something is looking at him. I truly don't know what to do. I am at the breaking point. Does anyone have any pointers?

Sometimes my son has trouble sleeping on his own (he'll be 7 next month) and I let him sleep with me. I don't feel it's a bad thing to give him that little extra security. I just remind him that he can't always do that. I remind him that big boys sleep in their own beds.

If he's seeing people in his room howevere I would be alarmed. It could be spirits (if you believe in that sort of thing) or him not being as awake as he thinks when he gets up. There are several things you can do though. You can do something to rid the house of the spirits (if you don't believe in spirits the action of doing something can help relieve his fears...especially if you have him help). Such things would be burning sage in the room and sprinkling salt water around his bed. Maybe put up a dreamcatcher and tell him what it's for. Things like that.

You can also try talking to him. Maybe he has some anxiety that is plaguing his subconcious. He's reaching out to you maybe. Trying to find some security.

    *hugs* and good luck hon

i belive childeren are good receptors of the "other "world. if you know what i mean. my now 8 yr old son and my 4 yr old went through the same thing when we moved into our old house and i blew it off for a while till my girls stated seeing and hearing things too....I got some smudge sticks (sage) and went through and "blessed the house" putting good energy back there. Then went through with the boys and had them help me a couple of days later. this works for us and continue to burn sage on a monthly basis. My kids also have dreamcatchers in their rooms abouve their beds. Have them help rid them of the "bad" dreams that they acummulate. I hope this helps...

sending "love and hugs" and the best of luck....

We use the things listed above. We also use a spray bottle of "ghost catcher" or "protection spray" or whatever the need is at the moment. My son keeps it near his bed so he can spray it when he needs to. It helps that the spray is made with lavendar essential oil which helps promote sleep anyway. But nothing works all the time. For the last week or so he's been back in our bedroom again. He says he's sleeping in his own room tonight, but we'll see. I don't have a problem with him sleeping in our room. But DH has a fit. He doesn't want him in our room at all. In my opinion, their only gonna be this young for a little while. It won't be long before they won't want anything to do with us.

I have heard this work for a few children. Doing something practical always has more meaning for young kids than talking (or just talking). Regardless of what you believe or how you approach this, doing something might do the trick.

I also don't think it necessary to create more fear by talking about spiritis, ghosts, whatever, it has more meaning anyway if you use his words for what he sees/hears.

good luck, keep us updated :)

We used a spray too... it was "Monster-Go-Away" for us. A drop of lavender essential oil in a spray bottle full of water works wonders for all sorts of oogey-boogeys. I don't know what you feel about religion, but my daughter prays for sweet dreams each night as well. Just remembering it in her prayers, helps her settle down better for bed.

My daughter will be 8 next month, and she STILL likes to climb in bed with me if she has a bad dream. I let her. It's not going to be TOO much longer before I'll be begging her for some just-us time, so I'll take it as it comes for now ;)
    love,

I have this same problem. Sort of. Only my dd is more anxious than that. She doesn't want to be in any room alone. She is 8 and she doesn't want to use the bathroom alone. I put a poster in there for her, to cover up an old heating vent, but it's not good enough.

She has told me that part of her anxiety is because our creepy neighbor has tried to get into our house when he was drunk. That was a long time ago, though. We keep everything locked up. I don't think it should be a problem now.

So she refuses to sleep in her room. I tried to fix it up and make it cheerful and pleasant. I tried reading to her in there until she fell asleep. I think I might just take her room for my own. It might really be the room that bothers her. IDK.
