So when I was on my drive into work this morning a lightbulb hit me. I thought of a way that could actually possibly work to responsibly legalize pot. This is still just a rough idea and I'm sure there are TONS of little strings and kinks that would have to be worked out but here it is. Okay so we're pretty much all in agreement that if pot was legalized it would most likely have an age restriction much like tobacco and alcohol. Whether its 18 or 21 doesnt really matter for this plan. I was thinking that one of the big concerns about legalizing pot is people driving high and having that be a danger on the roads, with no tried and true way to tell if that person is indeed under the influence of marijuana. What if you wanted to have access to pot and were a licensed driver you had to take a second road test. Something on a closed course where you physically smoke pot in front of the instructor (amount would be determined later) then take a road test and if you pass you would receive a license with a marking on it stating you are aloud to be a driving cannibus user. Then you would have to re test every so often just to make sure you are still a safe enough driver. Now theres the people who are saying hey what about me I dont drive. Well you would recieve a non driver ID card and that would suffice. One of the obvious problems with this is its not fair to the people who cant handle their high and drive. But I was thinking something along the lines of its only an offense if you are caught with pot while driving or something like that, and dont have a marijuana drivers license. Like I said theres some bugs that need to be worked out. This probably wouldnt work but hey I can dream cant I?
its a good start on a good brain-storming, but i just dont see this working. Maybe once we get it legalized, then we can talk about special drivers licenses for MJ users. Don't want to be negative, but the government and what-not just aren't going to be too keen on this. They already have enough problems with driving drunk. I want to hear a good informative post from nesta on this one. He'll think of a way, i just know it! hahaha
well it makes things more intense, i mean if someone has like 3beers they still may be able to drive, but if they smoked a joint on top of it i doubt they would be able
^ yup. weed allthough makes you concentrated at times, also easily distracts you and makes you concentrate on somethinh else. its also harder to notice some things so its still dangerous driving.
Exacttly. I mean what if they just smoke a shitload, or get some really nice stuff. Or the fact that weed slows your reaction time. Like already said, just because you dont crash on a short road test, no matter what, the odds of anyone crashing are increased dramaticly while high. If weed were legalized for meds, it would have to be in a pill form that is a really light dose. I mean its like any script drug. You take a little and you get the benefits, but quadruple your dose, and with a lot of drugs you will get high. In my mind, the way weed should be legalized in a way that it comes in such small notices that you dont even notice the high. I dont know why everyone makes such a big deal about it, and thinks it needs to be regulated differently then other drugs.
i like the way you're thinking, but this just wouldn't work. non smokers would hate the idea, and they would feel really unsafe about driving
i think it wouldnt really matter if marijuana gets legalized or not people would still use it in the same ways that they do now. when it does get legalized it will just make it more accessible to everyone. it wouldnt really matter if you had a special drivers license or not. people would smoke it like they do now but might be less worried about it if it was legal. marijuana has been illegal for so long that i dont think making it legal would change how it is used at this point. i find that i am more relaxed and enjoy driving more after i have smoked some pot. i can actually focus more on the road and everything else about driving better IMO. i dont really like driving to much anyways but if i smoke it really doesnt bother me as much.
there's a video of a dude on youtube and he smokes a fatty to the face and then drives. he did fine but knocked down only one cone or something. if i ever drove i'd probably be more cautious...i dunno though i dont want my license.
that wouldnt work because why it's legal has nothing to do with driving or the effects of the drug. If they legalized hemp, it would put alot of major corporations out of business. you can make alot of thigns out of hemp and cheaper. The cotton industry, oil industry, paper, none of them would want marijuana legalized cause then they any1 can use hemp to make these products and decrease the sails of major corporations. it will never be legalized because of this, not because of the drugs effects.
yeah, i think you're on the right track, and maybe it should have awarning like most meds that tell you not to operate heavey machinery or something until you know how it effects you. but i think that legalizing it would be great, i've never heard of anyone dying from smoking weed but cigs and alcohol kill people everyday, very slowly. but the difference is the govt can collect taxes on cigs and alcohol but not weed. do the math.
I just felt obligated to say that driving while under the influence of marijuana and driving normally are the same thing. Well actually, it's more that they're not the same thing. Shit, I don't really know how to say this right. Well, when you first get your learner's permit, you pretty much suck at driving; you make mistakes, you over-steer, miss a stop sign; it doesn't matter, you're not gonna be a perfect driver when you first start. And that's the same thing with driving while stoned. You have to learn how to do it all over again, but with a little practice you can drive just as well, or, for some people, even better. But people with little to know experience driving under the influence of weed should be extremely cautious while driving, because your reaction time may be impaired as well as your concentration. Just be safe - driving is dangerous no matter how sober you are.
not when your getting flashbacks its not and it definitely isnt the same for most people. I know alot of people who shouldnt drived stoned that do and drive like idiots because they're fucked up.
First off, I don't know how many people are getting flashbacks from smoking weed, but I sure as Hell am not. Also, you only quoted the first line of what I said. The very next line goes on to say the opposite, because I was having trouble explaining what I meant. And can you honestly tell me that these people you know that drive like idiots can drive properly when sober? They're probably just dick drivers in general. Not the herb's fault.
yet make the same statement about drinking and driving (which would be just as true as this one is) and you'll get flamed off this site..
