You can buy mushrooms there but they are fresh. This means that you will need to consume a lot more mushrooms by weight since most of the mushrooms weight will be water. I am not sure if you can take shrooms at a cafe, but you probably wouldn't want to if this will be your first time. You should just buy them from a shop and take them at your hotel or wherever you are staying (you don't want to be near a whole bunch of people the first time).

Check out The Doors cafe... it's a prtty chilled out place and the bar man is a cool guy.

As for mushrooms there are plenty of places that sell them.. and most cafes probably woudlnt mind you taking them there.

I took my first mushrooms there in a hotel room.. but then went for a walk around amsterdam.. which im glad i did because it was amazing. You should also visit a park.. such a Vondel park while on a trip.

the food in the dam is also amazing... theres every kind of takeaway under the sun.

yeh i think they sell weakish beer (because of law) and they have quite a good selection of weed.. can't quite remember what though... some nice sticky hash (about 5 varieties) and about 7 varieties of ganja.

Purple haze is a prtty good one.

Wrong! Mushrooms were criminalised last year sadly, too many fuckwit tourists (usually brits and americans) who can't handle psychedelics freaking out and wreaking havoc. About 2 years before that the Dutch high court ruled that you were allowed to sell dry mushies and even before that was ruled most places would have fresh on display but if you gave them a nudge and a wink you'd get dry (just like the uk till 2005).

Nice coffeeshops: Tweede Kamer, Global Chillage, 1e Hulp, Rokerij (the one on Singel is my fav. but they're all nice), Katsu, ~Bluebird, Siberie, La Tertulia, Club Media (organic weed menu), Homegrown Fantasy (organic also), The Noon are all decent places... Kashmir Lounge is great for hash but a little trek out.

Vrankrijk on Spuistraat is a good squat with cheap beer and sometimes punk shows etc. Overtoom 301 is another good squat with a decent vegan restaurant in the evening and various arty farty bits and bobs going on. The Minds also on Spuistraat is a grimey punk rock bar with good beer and is smoker friendly though you can't buy there.

Avoid: Bulldog, Grasshopper- those are like the Mcdonalds of c/s, pretty much all of the coffeeshops in the red light district are shit, also Smokey, Paradise, La Canna and Rastababy. Avoid most of the ones with pictures of Bob Marley in the window.

Eat some Indonesian food, go to the Stedelijk if modern art's your thing, play chess on the big chessboard on Max Euweplein, and be polite and patient in coffeeshops; buying herbs over the counter is not your god given right. Don't act like an idiot and you won't be treated like one ;)

Have fun! I'm not going back till May :(

My mate brought some hash back from there and it was tasty as fuck, not as good as the morrocon stuff from my holiday but still better than any god damn soap bar!
watch this video of this twat falling in one of the canals whilst tripping. is it me or is it the funniest possible reaction that he has?

Video doesn't work but people like that are what spoiled the mushroom thing for the rest of us :(

Is it any wonder they criminalise them when tourists abuse the city, it's tolerance and general freedoms with that much disrespect?

Many bars are smoker friendly so you can still have a beer and a zoot together just can't buy them from the same place. Lost in Amsterdam on Nieuwendijk is a good smoker friendly bar.

In most bars just ask the barman if you can smoke. The worst they'll say is no.

I know idiots like that are what spoiled it but it still has me in hysterics.

Not sure if hitting the booze whilst blazing up is the best idea though, i tend to get to smashed and then fall asleep.
I tend to like a bit of nose candy occasionally and wondered if youre discreet about is it sound to do in the coffe shops and bars?

Video is probably funny but the link won't let me watch it unfortunately...

RE: Marching powder: Nope. Not at all. No way. Don't even carry it on you when you go into a coffeeshop. If the police come in for a checkup (as they regularly do) and they find coca on you, even if the owner was unaware they can still lose their license because of your possession on the premises. Coffeshops were set up as a social experiment to seperate soft drugs and hard drugs, the dutch are tolerant but not to the use of hard drugs.

In the Red Light you'll be offered coke constantly, at best you'll be sold talcum powder, at worst you'll be stabbed. It's not worth it, enjoy the other freedoms on offer ;)

There's loads of indonesian restraunts, as it's a former dutch colony. My personal fav is De Kantjil en de Tijger, again, on Spuistraat. You can get a decent Rijstaffel (Rice Table) for 40-60 euros for two people (without drinks). For the quality of the food it's a very reasonable price. There's another great one on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat if you're heading away from Leidseplein on your left but I forget the name, it's a small doorway and you have to climb a flight of stairs but it's priced decently and food's good...

Maoz is a falafel chain good for a quick snack on the go. Avoid FEBO but watch the dutch people eating it, it's hilarious. It's like these weird little windows and you put your money in and get some weird sort of cheese sausage pop out. Looks disgusting but when you're blazed it's funny to watch other people eat it.

Haha, oh man those shops are trippy. It's so funny because they have to have some guy waiting at the side to help all the stoned people who can't figure it all out and keep gettin the little doors jammed.
