I saw the movie recently and absoloutely loved it. I'm thinking about going to see the play sometime. Has anyone else seen either? =) If you've seen the play, should I go? I'm not sure, I hear it's totally different from the movie...
You gotta see the play! It is much better than the movie, even the plays authors hated the film version - it adds plot that just doesnt exist in the play. Plus its a great theater experience, a little different than the usual dramatic thing.
That movie took me by complete surprise, based on the commercials I presupposed it would be total bullshit but it was suprisingly clever and definitley worth my time.
I've seen both and I love both. Some people are snobs about that sort of thing, you know, staying true to the musical and whatnot. I view them as two different works with one common denominator and frankly there are some things I like about the movie better than the play. I'd like to see the play again, though. There's so much to take in that you do miss things here and there.
I was in the play when I was 16, i played Margaret Mead. It was a great experience and it was weird because the cast of the play was living the play as their solid reality. It was the easiest acting job any of us had because the characters cast as being tripped out were actually tripped out. method acting indeed. great songs great message great characters She asks me why, I'm such a hairy guy....
Sure! When I saw the movie - I bought the soundtrack cd the next hour. =) Then my whole family regret it cuz I played it non-stop... Well it is a good cd.....
I hate to be a "snob" about it, but even Rado and Ragni were furious when they saw what had been done to their play when it was made into a movie. This is a textbook example of what happens to your play when a producer wants to make changes to your script! Not that it isnt decent, just nothing like what the authors intended.
hmm wonder if that still plays anywhere. If so, I'd love to see it. Live theater is always better than the film renditions
If I hear of an actual touring production, I will def let the forums know. There may be local theaters putting it on, but it hasnt done a national tour for some years now. Its a wild experience to see, involving the band and the sets in a way that the movie doesnt include. I would love to check it out again!
The best movie that there is totally will give you that "I was there state of mind"... It sucks you right up into character, you feel the lingo, you can really dig the threads they wear ,, Neal Carter... Amazing voice......You feel the 60's experience from all the walks of life in the film... I think Ill watch it right now..
