I'm fascinated by the subject of pre-op transsexuals, and I have loads of questions. If you're post-op, you can still answer the first set of questions, although the later ones are aimed at pre-op transsexuals, so you'll just have to remember how you felt before your surgery.

There are questions for both straight and gay people, so if you're bisexual, by all means answer both.

Lastly, you may find some of the later questions a little personal. If you prefer, you can PM me your answers privately.

Questions for all transsexuals:
1. Have you had any surgery (if so, what)?

yes-- definitely breast removal and removal of the internal organs and vagina

planning to as soon as I get back to my own country

yes. although my sex isn't chosen, it's just there. I'm a boy, I didn't choose to be one.

it's been coming on for years- finally put a name to it at 16

yes. that is a really bad idea too. I lost myself in a stranger that I hated. I have almost no memory of my 7th to 14th years.

7. Are there things about you that conform more to your birth sex (if so, what)?

I'm a gentle person with the desire to nurture and please. most people call this female. I say it's in everyone, just in different levels.

8. Do your close friends and family know of your transsexuality?

my parents, my aunt and her partner, two friends

9. Which sex do you feel strangers generally percieve you as? (And how important is this perception to you?)

it's about 50-50 right now. many women think I'm female, almost all men see me as male, everyone does a double take and 50% decide, no, that's a girl. or worse, a lesbian.

10. At what stage in a relationship would you disclose your transsexuality (either to a friend or to a romantic interest)?

as soon as I knew I could trust them

Questions for gay Female-To-Male transsexuals:
11. Do you feel frustrated not having a penis, or do you see your vagina as a bonus?

I want a penis but I'll never have one. I don't make use of the vagina because it's not really mine.

don't know, I've opted for celibacy but for the sake of the survey I'll answer the rest hypothetically.

Sorry to use the phrase "chosen sex". Probably not a great way to put it. I didn't know how else to describe the sex that people feel inside rather than their bodies.

Oily, thanks for your honest answers. It's very interesting. I have absolutely no clue about how transsexuals feel, or what they want. So it's great to get some answers.

By the way, you were right, question 24 was supposed to say "FTM transman" not "MTF transman". Edited it now. (Can you blame me for getting a little confused!?)

I would love to, and if id had any choice in the matter, i would have had it years ago.

Chosen? Gender is something you're born with, not something you choose. Just like your physical sex is something you're born with. Unfortunately, some people like me are born with a gender and a physical sex that dont match up.

Really feminine clothes would look stupid on me, and in this day and age anyway, clothes are a lot less gender specific than they used to be. I just dress in what i feel comfortable in. I have an androgenous look. Do i wish to be regarded as female by society? Of course, seeing as that is what i am.

5. How old were you when you first realised you were transsexual?

I dont call myself "transexual". I first felt i was a girl from about 4/5 years old. Though i didnt realise until my late teens that there were other people that suffer this, and that is was a medical condition

6. Did you spend a lot of your life "putting on an act" to conform to society, when really you felt quite the opposite inside?

I used to do it a lot, which made me bitterly unhappy and depressed. (although i think almost all people who suffer with what i do, are percieved by society as their birth sex. Its not really "putting on an act", its just society percieving you as something you're not) Im still depressed now, but im more content now that im more comfortable presenting myself as female to people i meet. Although i suppose it depends what you mean. I never put out "the impression" i was male, that's just how people percieved me, and i never challenged it. Although when i was younger, i always used to take on female roles during childhood games. Which was always instigated by me. So in a way, i had an outlet for behaving as my true gender when i was young.

7. Are there things about you that conform more to your birth sex (if so, what)?

Some might think the fact i like some "boyish" things makes me male, but i dont think so at all. Would you call a person that was born genetically female a boy just because she liked football or something? Of course not, so i think that question is pretty much impossible to answer properly.

8. Do your close friends and family know of your transsexuality?
Only my mum, and my only friend know about it.

9. Which sex do you feel strangers generally percieve you as? (And how important is this perception to you?)

I used to be percieved as female a lot more often than i am now. More or less due to the fact ive let myself seriously physically deteriorate because of the depression i suffer through my condition. Though even now id say i get taken for a female about 80% of the time. It is very important to me. Whenever i have been taken as a female by other people, that is really the only times in my life where id describe myself as happy. As i know that's the way things should always have been. Then of course the short lived euphoria i get from that is always deflated afterwards when i come down to earth knowing i still have a horrible male body, that was never mine, and that i wish i didnt have.

10. At what stage in a relationship would you disclose your transsexuality (either to a friend or to a romantic interest)?

I dont think i ever would. I dont see myself as a "transexual" so i wouldnt feel comfortable saying that to anyone.

No. If it was someone else's body, then perhaps. But a woman who is happy being a woman would hate it if people thought she looked like a man, and would probably be very hurt if people said so. That is exactly how i feel. I dont see my male body as attractive, because i dont see myself as a male. So of course im going to be disgusted with it.

12. Would you not feel sad altering your body to be more feminine, since you are making yourself less attractive to yourself?

Seeing as i wouldnt want a relationship with myself, or to have sex with myself, i find that question quite odd....

No, i find it disgusting.

Yes, very. It upsets me a great deal and makes me very depressed

Man that's exactly how I've always felt! I just thought I was crazy. There's got to be a translady out there somewhere with my body, and I've got hers, and we're both making a mess out of the other one's body because we can't have our own back. Two souls got mispackaged and seperated.

I am starting to understand a lot more about transsexuality.

I'm a straight man with a male body. I always thought it would be amazing to have a woman's body. I'd imagine spending all day looking at myself naked. But when I really think about it, it probably would suck to be stuck with it, because it wouldn't reflect the true me, and worse, it would attract men.

I think if I had to imagine having a woman's body, it would be like I normally drive a big, dirty truck, but my truck was in for repairs and they've given me a small pink car to drive for the time being. So instead of being able to drive fast and aggressively, I'm getting people looking at pretty little car expecting to see a girl inside. The car would be a total mis-representation of me, and I would resent having to use it.

So actually I can completely understand all this stuff. (Well, to a degree.)

I would LOVE to wear feminine things all of the time, but not even my family accepts me.

This is a hard question to answer. Looking back in the past I've realized that even when I was really young I was doing things that only a typical girl would want to do. It was around 5th grade when I personally realized that something was wrong, though.

Conforming to the sex that I am inside? I don't necessarily conform, it's just the way I am. But sometimes I've gone out on a limb to be more feminine than I really am (although I am pretty feminine!), really it's just because a little part of me wants people to notice.

I don't conform to my birth sex. ever.

My mom knows, and I'm convinced that the rest of my family knows as well. My told me she'd keep it a secret, but somehow I don't think things stayed that way. My friends don't know, but they DO know that I want to a girl, they just somehow don't see that I am a girl. =\

I've only been taken for a female once. That was one of the best moments of my life! As I said before I don't dress like myself, I dress androgynous. So most people are going to take me for my birth sex as I, unfortunately, look a lot like a male. -_-

Only my mom really knows (or I've told her anyways *sighs*) that I'm really a female.

I just want to start out by saying: I have never considered myself to be a "transsexual," much less trans in general. I don't identify with the title.

5. How old were you when you first realised you were transsexual? Well, I realized that I was a girl when I was 7, and then I found out that I was born into the wrong sex when I was 11. I had figured that everyone had the same anatomy as me before I had sex ed.

6. Did you spend a lot of your life "putting on an act" to conform to society, when really you felt quite the opposite inside? You better believe it; it was really hard to hide myself at times because I was so feminine.

7. Are there things about you that conform more to your birth sex (if so, what)? Um, mannerisms that I learned to immitate? I still act certain ways without even realizing it because everything has kind of been tossed up in the air in terms of my behavior... I am still settling into my identity, so I'm still changing in many ways; undoing repression takes time.

8. Do your close friends and family know of your transsexuality? All but one.

9. Which sex do you feel strangers generally percieve you as? (And how important is this perception to you?) Usually as a female, but baggy clothes and a less than enthusiastic pursuit of refining my voice often get me mistaken for a male at work; not many people "sir" me... Um, this perception used to be really important to me, but it isn't so much now that I have settled into the idea that I need to be doing this for me...

10. At what stage in a relationship would you disclose your transsexuality(either to a friend or to a romantic interest)? As soon as I felt as though I could trust someone; romantic interests usually know about it after the first or second meeting.

Yup! Of course I’d like to have the SRS, but right now anything else is tentative until I see how it all works out.

Well, I’m not too happy with my body for a number of reasons. I am not overweight, but I’m certainly not fit. I tended to eat a lot (Unhealthy stuff) when I was depressed, so now I’ve been moving into the habit of changing a lot of things, and diet and exercise is one of them! Anyway, I sometimes dress like a girl when I am at home, but I really wouldn’t feel comfortable in public (Not in the clothing sense, but my body). As far as being regarded as a female....yes! I’d love to just be able to walk outside or talk to someone on the phone and have them ‘think’ I am a female. (Well...I ‘am’ one, but you know what I mean, right?)

Well, when I was very young (Probably around 4 or 5), I had wished desperately that I had been born a girl. To make a long story short, from that point on I had always known, but I didn’t really actively pursue it until about a year and a half ago (I was just turning 18 then...I’m 19 now).

6. Did you spend a lot of your life "putting on an act" to conform to society, when really you felt quite the opposite inside?

Oh, definitely! It’s strange though, because I never really had a problem acting as myself online, but when I was in public for real or around my family, I am (Still) very androgynous. Not masculine, but not feminine, just kind of ‘existing’. However, I do have a few good friends who I am able to just be myself around, which is a huge relief.

7. Are there things about you that conform more to your birth sex (if so, what)?

Oh, I’m sure there are some, but more often than not, my interests are either feminine or on the feminine side of things typically perceived as masculine. An example would be is that I love to read fantasy novels, but I’m much more interested in romance plots than action plots (Not that I don’t enjoy action, too!). As far as physical habits and such go, I do have a lot of feminine traits, and not to many masculine ones, but there are a few. I’m sorry but, everyone needs to burp once in a while. =)

8. Do your close friends and family know of your transsexuality?

The majority of my friends do, and the majority of my family does as well. The last big obstacle is telling my father. (The only negative reaction I’ve gotten about it was from my mother, who still thinks I’m making a mistake...)

9. Which sex do you feel strangers generally percieve you as? (And how important is this perception to you?)

Well, I don’t really look masculine, but I’m still obviously physically a boy. There are a few occasions though where I am mistaken for a girl (I have really long hair and some feminine features), which is nice. As of right now, I don’t fret too much, but once I start hormones I’ll probably be a bit more wary of how people see me.

10. At what stage in a relationship would you disclose your transsexuality (either to a friend or to a romantic interest)?

I’m not sure, I’d probably just have to feel it out. Right now, since people still perceive me as male, it’s not a big shock when I tell them about me wanting to change, as most of them think of me girly to begin with. My best friend for six years (Who is still my best friend!) told me that he ‘Already knew’ before I told him, which was nice that someone else noticed. Too bad he’s straight...maybe things will be different in the future when I change...-Blush-

Well, I don’t think I look very attractive as a boy, so no! In a sense, it would be like saying that I would date the male version of myself when I was the female version of myself, which is just not true. Besides, I’m WAY too self conscious about how I look. =P

12. Would you not feel sad altering your body to be more feminine, since you are making yourself less attractive to yourself?

Quite the opposite! I hate to use the word ‘disgusting’ to describe myself, because although I do not think I am attractive, I at the same time do not think I’m hideous. I’d rather be a moderately attractive female than a hot guy!

13. Do you find your own penis sexually attractive, to a degree?

Not at all. But, if it was on another guy or something, sure. I think there’s a difference when it’s on your body.

Very much so. =(

I wouldn’t describe it as a act, it’s more like an adapted behavior in which you instinctively develop a characteristic that reflects to how people view you in society. For example, when you are involved in a job field you are viewed as who your assigned birth sex is and nothing more. I may feel something totally different inside but I will have to adjust to this field of work and carry on as they see fit.


7. Are there things about you that conform more to your birth sex (if so, what)?

The fact that I lived my life dedicated to believing that an alternate gender role was not optional up until now has discouraged me from bringing out my inner fem and helped me maintain this dull male character. Other than that it all seems forced.

My relatives are often hinted by some of the things that I do such as take long showers, obsessing over my hair etc. But they still seem uncertain and the least bit interested in knowing what is going on in my life. As far as friends go I tend to avoid making any.

This is a tricky question because the majority of society (especially depending on what part of town you live in) perceives things differently to what is fact. So me not looking like an ordinary 26 year old male most likely has people guessing I am gay of sexuality. However I don’t think people see me as gender confused because of my charateristics. For instance I have a more dominant male walk and talk quite regularly as a male but am sometimes told that I sound like a girl. But most of the time it just seems like I am misunderstood.

I don’t quite understand this question.

No not necessarily. I’ve been in relationships with the same gender and often felt more affection towards that partner rather than attractive to them. It’s more of a sense of security rather than something that a couple of opposite sex would find with each other. But I have seen many men that I would question “how can they live with themselves” including my own brother. I never felt this way towards females however. Then again I guess there is a difference in gay relationships and male with transgender ones.



12. Would you not feel sad altering your body to be more feminine, since you are making yourself less attractive to yourself?

I would not feel worst about myself if I made some modifications to my body.

It’s annoying having it there. It really makes things confusing for myself especially when I don’t feel any need to have it.

Most of the transexuals I know are male to female transexual women who have been completely feminized, they are estrogen, have had facial feminization surgery, sometimes breast implants, and sometimes srs, and they live, look, dress, and act like genetic women.
Some of them are as beautiful and feminine as the most beautiful and feminine genetic women.
They not only pass as women, but in many cases, the transwomen are so beautiful and so feminine that people don't even know they were born male unless they tell them.

Almost all of the transwomen I know are with handsome masculine hetrosexual men who like both beautiful feminine genetic women and beautiful feminine transwomen.

Some of the transwomen I know have been completely feminized, including srs, had their legal status changed to female, and even married men, and sometimes even adopted children with men. (which they are allowed to do if they have had their status changed to female, which is allowed in most of the states in America, and most other developed countries).

The only difference between a completely feminized and transitioned translady and her genetic lady counterpart, is that the transwoman was born male then later transitioned to female, and the translady can't get pregnant.

Sure, many things. I like playing sports. taking hormones has allowed me to see my identity without a sexual/desire confusion aspect (because mtf hormones are testosterone blockers, oestrogen, and I sometimes progesterone) and that kind of influences how I am able to see myself, definitely MUCH more than before I took hormones. Before I took them I could only see myself in a trans/cis binary, but now the scale seems to go close to the cis, which confuses me and makes my position/identity not really clear to me.

The laser hair removal and hormones already feminized my body to an extent, and it did make me sad, because I was in a limbo where I did not look masculine but I also didn't look like a woman, so I looked very ugly as a man and not even close to ever being considered a woman.I really hated seeing myself in pictures or in the mirror.

Yes, I guess so

Sometimes. I felt moreso before I began hormones. And I especially felt that way when I was a young teen.

So, for me, now I can enjoy the fact that the man likes it, and a lot of times it doesn't do anything at all physically for me, but sometimes, especially if its a man I care about, it feels good, although I don't get hard or cum. But even when it doesn't do anything at all for me, I just think, well, good that he likes it.

It is the same as above, if he likes it, then that can make me happy emotionally, and physically, sometimes it feels good. I mean, if he is inside me and he's doing it, well, it definitely feels good.

well, I don't think about it, but once we are both naked, the physical sensation is nice, I like it during the act itself, because it feels good.

Or, sometimes, if he is a nice guy and he's sweet, I can enjoy it after a while, or if he somehow really knows how to be a good lover (without being a nice guy, but definitely being respectful) it can feel great. But, I know from experience, if he is disrespectful or if it is just a physical act for him, for me it is really a disgusting experience and incredibly physically painful experience. And emotionally I feel disgusted, like debased and degraded.
