Last week I came to the revelation that maybe the "cult guy" is right (pardon the term). Maybe the only truly sustainable way to live is to radically change our life style, do away with cars and roads, and even currency for that matter. Live simply off the land, without industry.

My rational mind told me this is absurd, un-American even, I mean you can't legally live in this country without currency, right? You can't pay taxes or purchase the land you live on, but you can sustain such an existence if you're not caught. 'Sounds pretty cool, not that I'll ever live that way, but who knows? I spend most of my life cooped up, dreaming about the woods. Then on nights and weekends I spend as much time as I can in the woods. Locally grown foods are better than stuff that's shipped in, right? Just as stuff that's built from natural local materials is better.

The only argument I have against this way of life is a sense of commitment to change things in the most powerful country on earth, but that may be a sham as well, 'cause our government no longer seems to represent the will of the people. It's become an oligopoly, and even the 500 million or so middle class elite don't have much say over policy these days. I may not have the power to change things, but I can change the way I THINK, at least till the thought police catch up with me...

It's possible mankind lacks the civility to wield technology, at least how it's manifested in today's world.

 

I'm basically with you there. For long distances. Walking is the logical choice
for local travel.

Get it off the ground, too. That's a must. But I don't see any way around using
combustion engines. Any attempt to use electricity would be more destructive.

The best idea I've encountered is hydrogen airships (dirigibles) with simple
internal combustion engines used for takeoff and landing and achieving
the altitude where the wind currents are headed in the right direction.

And for emergencies, of course, like seeking shelter in a sudden storm.

The fuel could be woodgas from coppices of fast-growing trees growing
at each of the airship's ports of call. Not much would be neaded. In order
to keep the weight down, the wood could be turned into charcoal in
destructive distillation retorts, with all of the distillates (one of which is hydrogen)
being used by the community hosting the port. (things like turpentine,
and acetic acid, various grades of wood oil, and tars and resins).
The extra hydrogen needed can be generated by running steam over
red-hot charcoal. Hot bulb ignitions, which require no electricity,
can be used for the airship's engine.

Sounds good to me.

People doing it now have to camouflage their communities from the eyes
of mainstream culture.

"mechanical escapements" Excellent! Large, crude, clockwork motors can
be used for a variety of tasks.

"narrow gauge". Elevated railways, for transporting only people and their luggage,
over long distances, could be Earth-friendly, I think.

One of the biggest obstacles, as you point out, is the mindset of most people.
They have been brainwashed into believing that this society is the culmination
of millions of years of natural evolution, the crown of creation, and that it is just
the way the world is, rather than simply one of numerous ways that human beings
can choose to live.

They buy into the idea that human evolution and technology are the same thing.

Technogogy is good, but it's overuse and abuse is killing the planet and us.

I think the government does what the people really want

I can relate to the arguement against, AND all the arguements FOR too. Sometimes it feels like it would just be simpler to get a lot farther out in the sticks and away from as much of the world's B.S. as possible, but that only fixes MY immediate problems. And ultimately, if "they" wish to find YOU badly enough they will, no matter how far away from civilization you are...

I would end up feeling guilty or like there was something missing if I didn't keep one foot out there working actively for positive change. There are an AWFUL lot of people who are not as, I don't want to say "not as intelligent", but maybe they just don't have enough common sense or strength or drive or whatever. But however ya want to call it, they don't have what it takes to stand up to the machine. It's sort of like they were just kids yet, or maybe foreigners who don't understand the language real well. It makes a body feel like they should try to hang around and help these guys who can't seem to help themselves...

That's really the crux of the matter, total escape is fine for a while, I've done it. You go about your life and whatever goes on in the rest of the world just goes right on by. You know nothing about it and it has no apparent effect on your life, while other folks in the "real" world worry about everything from money to global warming to wars to human catastrophies... But it occurs to me that while I'm on permanent vacation from the "civilized" world, the place could very well fall completely apart and I would have had no forwarning, nor would I have done anything to try to stop it.

You never know who might randomly come along and make a positive impact. It seems like many folks who get famous for big things, it just is luck and happens because they happen to be in the right place doing the right thing at the right time. The chances of someone making some positive inroads grows the more people there are actually WORKING at it. If I don't try, I'll never know if I could have helped fix something that's broken. So I won't give up on this barbaric "civilized" world just yet, I'll hang around and see what good I can accomplish.

If you move out "in the sticks" and are living a genuinely Earth-friendly lifestyle then
you are doing more than fixing your own problems. You are setting an example
for others to follow.

Actions speak louder than words, by orders of magnitude.

And you and your friends are no longer harming the Earth yourselves, or
paying others to do it for you.

These are both very good things.

The fact that you can't engage in mass advertising isn't a problem. Word of
mouth is more effective, because it only makes its way to those who can
benefit from the knowledge. Who are ready to follow your example.

People can visit without ever having to know exactly where it is. I have
spent time in several such communities and couldn't tell you where they
are.

I am obviously not talking about the typical "commune", which is
nothing but a rural suburb, but a self-sufficient and sustainable community
that isn't stepping on the rights of other species.

Because the members of such a community have no need to obtain supplies
from the dominant civilization it is very easy for them to remain invisible
with respect to members of that dominant civilization.

Another thing that contributes to their invisibity is their Earth-friendly lifestyle.
Like the other animals of the forest, their homes are not easy to identify
because they treat the land with respect, they don't run roughshod over it.
They blend in. They live in harmony with Nature.

Plus, Americans (etc.) just don't walk. They drive. Absolutely no one walks
over most of the mountain forests of the western United States. Those who
do like to hike almost always stay on well-developed trails.

That includes the hunters and fisherpersons. They rarely get more than a
hundred yards from the roads. I know this from years of observation while
lving in the mountains.

Another camouflaging factor is the giant egos of Americans. They really
believe that everyone in the world wants to live like them, and don't
believe that any rational person could choose to live otherwise. And
irrational people obviously couldn't do what we are talking about here.

You'll have to pardon me here, Earthmother, but the people who do such
things are not as ignorant in this area as you obviously are. They educated
themselves before they began their projects.

They put out no light at night, and do noisy work either inside or during
storms, don't put out any smoke, and take the necessary steps to hide
their infrared signature so that planes and helicopters and satellites
don't spot them. This is not difficult to do.

It is possible that they could be spotted by military surveillance satellites,
but they'd have to work very hard at it. Their amazing electron sensors
only work when focussed on very small areas of land and under ideal
weather conditions. There are over 300,000 square miles in the Rocky
Mountains, and it would take them decades to search all of it.

These devices just aren't designed to look for people who are living in
harmony with Nature. They are looking for people who live variations
of their own lifestyle. Or like hunter-gatherers in the "Third World".

Their time is very expensive and they have other priorities. A lot of
them. Looking for possible camouflaged villages of harmless hippies
living in the mountains isn't high on their list.

In fact, if you tried to get them to do that, they'd laugh you out of the
building if you didn't have concrete evidence. And how would you get
that?

I haven't thrown in the towel. I'll still be at next week's ACLU meeting, whether or not I can make a difference.

A few years back when bush stole the last election, my wife and I talked about leaving the country, a lot of people did. We decided that we had a responsibility to stay to affect change, and indeed we may still have a shot at it, but we may need to face the fact that it's not possible. Buddha teaches us that our attachments limit us. In my case, the attachments are very real: friends, family, children, I'm not gonna just let that go, but I'm willing to accept the idea that my attachment to affect change may be counter productive, time will tell.

Quote me however you like, hell, make it your own, but please do not mis-quote me or use what I say out of context. I was referring to our government, which seems to be more and more intent upon invading my privacy, to the point where they may soon be invading my thoughts. Al Gore's concept of GLOBAL WARMING may be from MIS-INFORMATION or DIS-INFORMATION (INTELLIGENCE terms):

1) MIS-INFORMATION - Being provided with MIS-leading and/or false theories, data and/or conclusions. In this situation, a person HONESTLY believes what they're saying is ACCURATE and TRUE! But REALLY isn't!
JUNK SCIENCE fits this category, precisely. Sometimes we must start with LIES, MIS-UNDERSTANDINGS and SPECULATIONS, to get at the truth (on subjects we know nothing about, i.e. we're "clueless" on)! We learn from TRIALS and ERRORS!

2) DIS-INFORMATION - Falsely-crafted information (i.e. KNOWINGLY UNTRUE), which is highly AGENDA-BASED, to be used as a DISTRACTION (DECEPTION ) away from the real TRUTH, by creating many "false-leads", and ultimately CONFUSE people so much, they don't know what to believe, anymore (then hopefully, the people just give-up their quest for the real TRUTH)! Dis-information is commonly used in ESPIONAGE, by INTELLIGENCE ORGANIZATIONS, SECRET SOCIETIES AND GOVERNMENTS and SOCIAL ENGINEERS. It is a big part of PSYCHOLOGICAL-OPERATIONS ("psy-ops" - BLACK OPS and MAGIC OPS), including PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE and SOCIAL ENGINEERING.

The "911-TRUTH" MOVEMENT is currently being HEAVILY-attacked by PSY-OPS. They create ridiculous versions of the 911 EVENT, such as the "NO PLANES theory" and many other "falsely-created" versions. Most of these "psy-ops" theories are to divert 911 truth seekers, away from the TRUTH, by having them considering MANY viable alternative theories and start looking in many WRONG directions. Yes, the TRUE PERPETRATORS of the 911 EVENT, create their own "conspiracy theories" against themselves! It's a DEFENSIVE maneuver! - DISBANDING TECHNOLOGY and RETURNING TO NATURE, FOR HUMANKIND'S "PEACE OF MIND" -

Many posters on this thread mention "returning back to nature", and use as little "technology" as possible. We live in the era of FUTURE SHOCK (Book by Alvin Toffler - 1970), where we have TOO MANY CHOICES to make, in TOO SHORT of time. This situation is very OVERWHELMING (and HIGHLY STRESS-FULL), which results in a condition known as: SENSORY OVERLOAD. It's like in some SciFI TV series/movies, that portray a computer "flipping-out" from too much information-INPUT, and start saying: "That dos NOT compute! That does NOT compute! ...".

Being way out in NATURE helps provide a relief (natural tranquilizer) against SENSORY OVERLOAD and provides a "quiet time", on which we can collect our thoughts. HENRY DAVID THOREAU (philosopher, naturalist, development critic and author) was an excellant example of this! Thoreau produced many fine literaray works, while living in a cabin in the woods! He wrote the fine book: WALDEN ("a reflection upon SIMPLE LIVING in natural surroundings." (LINK: http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_David_Thoeau ). His IQ was believed to be about 200 - GENIUS)!

I felt many times of just going out into the DEEP WOODS of MICHIGAN to "live off of the land" and "commune with nature", just like many of our NATIVE AMERICANS, have, and sort of do, today. It'd be GOOD for awhile, anyway. MICHIGAN has plenty of fresh water, natural plant foods, fish and other animals, for food, so it's alot easier to live off of, than having a plot of land in the desert! There's also alot of wood (lumber), rocks, gravel and sand for construction.

- DOMESTIC SPYING TECHNIQUES -

As far as EFFECTIVLEY hiding in the woods, against any possible NWO-type "government surveillance", it would be almost imposssible, with the given HIGH-TECH SURVILLANCE and SPY-GEAR, that is available, today, such as: INFRA-RED imaging, ULTRA-VIOLET (UV)-imaging, "Night Vision", SATELLITE SURVEILLANCE, Atomic Signature Recognition (ASR) Technologies (RUSSIA) and flying SPY-DRONES. Even the Detroit Metro Area News Team helicopters are equipped with "infra-red" imaging and/or NIGHT VISION, and it's very easy to pick out the "heat signature" of a human being, even hiding in a forest!!!

Older military "spy-drones" used simple propeller blades for lift and propulsion, like those "remote-controlled" model planes and helicopters, that you can buy at hobby stores. Newer ones could use some form of "anti-gravity" motor. Whether they are "alien technology reverse-engineered" , or good old "human engineering" is debatable, but they DO EXIST! This MAG-LEV subway train is similar to a MAGNETIC-WAVE PROPULSION "RAIL GUN".

The MAG-LEV train idea was featured in an old POPULAR SCIENCE issue (in the 60's or 70's). I may still have this issue! The MILITARY have this cool subway train system (operating for a few decades), but WE THE PEOPLE don't get to use it, even though we PAID for it through TAXES, and/or BLACKS OPS (CIA-drug dealing) "drug" monies! Christians tell us that we are doomed to failure because of Original Sin. That Earthly life
itself is tainted and the body an unworthy vessel of the Soul. That there is no hope of
paradise on Earth but only in Heavan.

The Darwinists tell us that we are the product of an evil Nature that is based upon
violent competition for scarce resources. Their parent ideology, Physical Science,
tells us that the universe is a mindless machine that happenned by accident. That
all of our inner experiences are illusions.

The Truth is that Nature is based upon loving cooperation. We are just projecting
what we are at present upon Nature, and then justifying our actions by blaming

The Truth is that inner reality is every bit as real as the physical

I love your posts! I see so many things I can relate to.

I have been aware of being able to "create your own reality" since I was a child. And all things considered , it works rather well. Even as an individual with NO group conciousness to back them up. It's why I have the life I do today.

I've been suspicious for some time now that the REASON things of this world are so bad right now is because of the collective conciousness which is feeling mighty overwhelmed right about now. That perhaps the George Bushes of the world were truely not even really human any more, but a reflection of this feeling of having no control. And I 've wondered about what would happen if EVERYONE simply one day decided to STOP living by the myriad of ridiculous rules and regs that are forced down our throats daily by the "powers that be". Unfortunately, I believe the agenda is to totally CONFUSE everyone so that nobody quite knows where "they" are coming from and nobody is quite sure WHAT to do...

I'm quite familiar with Thoreau as my dad, being a writer, a farmer, and a philosopher, was a great fan of his. I started reading Thoreau when I was about 11. We went to Walden pond on a "pilgrimage" when I was a kid...

I too had thoughts of leaving the country (while I still could). I thought that the ANDES Mountains in Venezuela looked as good as any place I could find. But a more realistic (and easier) approach which may very well actually come to be eventually is just to move much farther out in the woods, away from any travelled roads etc. Not really so hard to do in these parts. But one of the criteria for such a place would be that there is NOT enough open land to put down a HELICOPTER...

It took me a while to absorb it, but I can visualize the Secret Society, where Clinton, Bush, Gore, and all the rest of those dudes hang out, snort their lines or whatever they do, and laugh at the rest of us. Furthermore, I've heard of this before, the secret societies, the under ground bunkers, transportation, etc., but never in the detail you've presented it. My theory is THEY've got all the solutions to our energy problems, like the carburator that gets over 100 mpg (the inventor "disappeared"). They just haven't let the cat outta the bag 'cause the economists won't let them, so they throw us bones like the hybrid cars to make us think we're doing good for the environment. After THEY have tapped us as much as they can for the oil, and they figure out that the economy is about to collapse because the oil's about to run out, THEY will start introducing those technologies that are sitting on some back shelf somewhere.

And you're right, that's someone else's agenda (thank God, I wouldn't want that responsibility), so we might as well focus on the COSMIC LAYER that contains our EARTHLY PARADISE!

Of course they laugh at us. Because we do all the work. If we quit working for,
consuming the goods and services of, and investing in, the corporations, they'd
be up shit creek without a paddle.

We create them, they don't create us. They exist because they are what most
of us think we want to be.

But they really don't have very good lives. They are isolated from most of society,
phsyically and culturally and socially. They have few, if any, real friends, because
everyone wants their money and influence. They can't trust anyone. They are
treated like gods by most people, not fellow human beings. They have no
privacy at all. If they aren't surrounded by servants or assistants, their
bodyguards are there....Their choices are very limited. They _have_
to have "the best".

As for all that money? How much can a person use? They have huge houses and
yet they are rarely home and have to share them with strangers completely
out of their social class, the hired help needed to maintain their mansions.
How many rooms can you use?

How many cars can you drive? How many gourmet meals can you eat?

Most of their money is invested in stocks and bonds, which keep the corporations
healthy and providing lots of jobs and retirements for lesser folks. The rest is
in bank accounts available for lesser folks to borrow. Or in charitable foundations
that give grants to students and universities and hospitals and not--for-profit
ogs. The middle class gets a lot back for putting them on pedestals and scape-
goating them.

And all that consumption they do is money that goes into the pockets of
middle class people. Like the workers who build their mansions and the
waiters serve them at the elite restaurants....

They don't really have that much money. Bill Gates has 53 billion. Divide
that among the 500 million middle class in the world and they each get
$106.00 one time. Chickenfeed. Compare that to the amount of wealth
held by the middle class. It's a drop in the bucket.

They are really just sky anchors on the system. They make the decisions that
keep the money-making machine running as smoothly as it can for the benefit
of the middle class.

Many posters on this thread mention: wanting to leave the USA, or TAKE FLIGHT, because of FEARS of a coming (or current) NEGATIVE POLITICAL CLIMATE, such as a New World Order, NAZI REGIME, or a COMMUNIST REGIME! In your last post to me, you mention that you may like to move to the ANDES mountains in VENEZUELA. At his United Nations (UN) speech, El Presidente HUGO CHAVEZ (of VENEZUELA) made the CATHOLIC "sign of the cross" with his arm and hand, and called PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, Jr.: "DIABLO" (meaning DEVIL, in SPANISH). He also remarked that he: "...smelled FIRE and BRIMSTONE", whenever GEORGE W. BUSH Jr. comes near him! Many AMERICANS retire in the GOOD parts of MEXICO, COSTA RICA and PANAMA CITY. PANAMA is constructing a very nice retirement city for RICHER AMERICANS, on one of their ISLAND ATOLLS! CHILE grows many fine fruits, which is another fine place to possibily move too. ARGENTINA suppesedly ain't too bad either. Brush up on that SPANISH, Senorita! BRAZIL is heavy into BIO-FUELS for their cars! Just do alot of research on the place that you plan to move to, and take a short vacation, there.

If you're into SOUTH PACIFIC ISLANDS, HAWAII is nice, but is still an AMERICAN STATE. It is a very beautiful island! Very SPIRITUAL! It is believed to be a small piece of land left-over from the ancient continent of LEMURIA (MU), that once existed in the PACIFIC OCEAN! Need I mention KONA GOLD and MAUI COFFEES, and "MAUI WOWWIE" (papaya-tasting) MARY JANE (pot)?

The famous painters of VINCENT VAN GOGH and PAUL GAUGAIN loved to go to (and live) in the beautiful ISLAND of TAHITI, which has decent mountains and clean waters. The "friendly islands" of TONGA don't sound too bad! The island of TASMANIA, south of Australia is another good choice! I've thought about moving to AUSTRALIA, or NEW ZEALAND. Howdy, MATE! How about a walkabout the billybong!

If you live out in the wilderness, in the good ole USA, don't forget about those 64,000 black helicopters (black ops)! One of my mother's friends considered herself to be a PATRIOT. She was mostly an old-fashioned, CHRISTIAN (church-going) farm woman, who is still "partially-blind". She divorced her husband, and moved to an old farmhouse (and farm) just south of SAGINAW BAY, in MIchigan, where she lives by herself. I admire her for that! She does have a few cats, too. It reminded me of AUNTIE "EM" (DORTHY, TOTO)'s house and farm in the WIZARD OF OZ. I kept my eye out for "flying monkeys"!

Me and my middle brother, went up there (in the Springtime of last year - 2007). MY mother's PATRIOT friend said she actually saw one BLACK HELICOPTER up there, but that's all! There are big military planes that fly low over farms (growing mostly corn) in Michigan's THUMB-area (known for THE MICHIGAN MILITA movement) looking for MARIJUANA crops. My mother's PATRIOT friend said she knew of one case up there, were a farmer got busted (from information form one of those low-flying military surveillance planes), for GROWING da REEFER, mon! PROPERTY can be legally "seized" for growing marijuana!

She also said that F-16-type USA fighter jets would "go SUPERSONIC" when they near SAGINAW BAY, and cause SONIC BOOMS!! They usually are not allowed to fly over MACH 1, over land!

If you happen to drive north (from the Metro-Detroit area) up HIGHWAY M-53 in Michigan's THUMB area, and drive just past DECKERVILLE RD., look to the east and see a big, white old farmhouse, with a small diamond-shaped window on the side, that's the world-famous TERRY NICHOLS house of THE OKLAHOMA CITY bombing fame! My brother took a digital picture of the NICHOL's house, when we drove by, when going up to visit my mother's PATRIOT friends farm house. She listens to SHORTWAVE radio and knows alot! She has a nice personality!
