Well I meant the original thread as a joke, I was just trying to be sarcastic because the only religous group who ever seems to post a thread like this one are the christians, or at least the few that are on here. But to tell you the truth, Islam is one of the only organized religions that rub me the wrong way. I think its the way Muhammed swept through the Oriental, and Indonesian lands and conquered people, demanding that they convert or die. Anyone have some valid points about islam they would like to share? I understand that there are peaceful people who practice this and are good people and I do not discriminate. I am more looking at the origin of the religion, it seems to be one of the only ones that was truly founded on blood and hatred, even more than christianity might seem to people. Prime example, the Christians went on the Crusades, only after the Muslims had conquered the city of constantinople, they were fighting to reclaim it, and then looted and pillaged it. I know this example is very broad and alot more happened but Im just using it as a starting point.
There are all kinds of muslims. Just as there are all kinds of anything in this world. Sadly there are fanatical ones as well. and it is these people that misinterpret what the Quran says and misuse/abuse it's message. now i have to say there are some laws in Islam which just make me go "huh!?". i won't even get into them. if you just read the translated Quran you can be the better judge of whether islam is sensible or not. the messed up thing about religion is that some things are just plain old outdated and cannot be applied in todays modern advanced technological and highly scientific world!! any religious book is METAPHORICAL in many senses and should not be taken literally like the fundamentalists do. they adhere rigidly to what they believe are the key 'fundamentals' of the religion, and see no room for compromise. and that contradicts what any religion preaches to begin with - to be good to all things and people because life is sacred (as is death) - and the basic purpose is to promote peace. you see, getting back to islam and i guess more specifically, 'muslim terrorists', these uneducated illiterate men think Jihad means if u kill in a war u'll go straight to heaven with no sins. that is NOT true. Jihad is basically 'it's ok if its self defense, fight til the death, n u'll go to heaven'. [both sound terribly silly to atheists.] the problem with religion is not the religion itself but the people who practice it.
What I am having a problem with is not the fanatical ideals of certain muslims who may turn into terrorits based on their personal interpretation of the quran, I understand the fact that it is the people that make the religion, and that the true meaning of the religion is usually always twisted, whether for the good or for the bad. What I am am intrested in discussing is the the violent start of the religion in general, the wars and convert or death policies The Battle of Badr The Battle of Uhud The Battle of Trench The Banu Quraydha The Battle of Khayber The Battle of Mut'ah The conquest of Makkah The Battle of Hunayn The Battle of Ta'if The Battle of Tabuk
Personally, I think the whole world would be far better without religion. In today's society, it's law that matters. I know the legal system is a shambles but it sure beats the hell out of 'if you commit sin, you'll burn in hell'. Today, that's just no threat! With regards to Islam, I personally believe they are the most evil race on earth but at the same time, I understand that it's normally the extremists who do such terrible things to our world. I know that the majority want to just get along in life and I'm ok with that. It just seems strange that their religion can produce far more hate and intolerance than any other. I mean, the terrorists have killed people in Iraq today for VOTING. This shows me how against a civilized world these people are. The decent and peaceful muslim community of Iraq should at least be able to choose what leadership they want and not a dictatorship. Anyway, I end my ranting ... hmmmm ... now!!
What did the Pagans ever do to the Christians to deserve 9 million of their number being burnt at the stake as witches? What did my family do to the Hindus to deserve them being shot at and having their land stolen when fleeing from India? What did the Palestinian people do to be an occupied people by the Israeli Zionists? Religious extremism exists in every culture, and every religion has blood on it's hands, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, even Buddhism. The fault is human nature. It's impossible to single out one culture as more bloody than another. Mankind is naturally in conflict, we can but work to move beyond our disputes. For what it's worth, all religious extremism rubs me up the wrong way....
Theres no such thing as a good muslim. Even the most liberal muslim still dreams of Islamic world domination.Thats just how their religeon and thir culture is. I havnet been hearing about any muslim groups in the states getting up and condemming terrorists or anything, because they support em! I have worked closely with iraqi security force and talked to alot of them about islam and thier culture and all that jazz. So im not just pulling stuff outta my, considering ive been to iraq, kuwait, quatar, and inside the iranian border in the last year ive been around alot of muslims. Fuck islam. We didnt blow enough mosques up. Fucking coward murderers. They dont even fight us straight on, they just hide bombs on the side of the road or shoot and run into mosques. fuckers.
On the other hand, they could just send the ones who fail it into the military. Oh, wait, they've already done that....
"Even the most liberal muslim still dreams of Islamic world domination.Thats just how their religeon and their culture is" well if you think the posters stupid show that hes wrong and whats the difference between lets say a nazi supporter in the 1930s who isnt gassing jews yet and someone who believes in changing countrys they move to , into sheria states . Islam isnt the only religion that plans on taking over the world , my former religion plans to take over the goverment of america for example and thats a christian type of religion .
Based upon subjective experience, it's not evidence. I could cite opposite experience to the same effect. Most of the Muslims I know, are liberal, peaceful and have no desires for world domination, all of whom have spoken out against terrorism and 9/11. Almost every religion is prosletising, there are hardly any that do not want to actively recruit new members. Judaism is an example of such a religion, but it's a rarity. Most religions will also go to exteme lengths to gain support as well, there's evidence throughout history for almost every religion doing that. And within each, there are both liberal and extremist elements. What we should be doing is encouraging the liberal, and denouncing the extremist. If we tar all people of one religion with the same brush, we are being reactionary, extremist, narrow-minded, and ultimately will push more liberal elements of the religion towards extremism....
Where did you get that idea? Look into the history of the other religions. Many have hateful members. Have you ever listened to people like Jerry Falwell? Tell me that what he and his followers say isn't hateful and intolerant. And that shouldn't reflect on other Christians, just those who happen to be hateful and intolerant. Islam is no more of these things than any other religion.
