Why do guitar strings turn your fingers green?

    ???

    I think it usually happens when I'm playing acoustics more than electrics...

    probably using copper coated strings eh?

    usually on electric, I believe they are nickel coated, so that'd be why

    Most (ahem!) Steel strings are copper wound. At least the 4 largest of 6 are. Base players can tell you about those. Only the insides are steel. The green will stop after you've had them on your box for awhile. Hope your callouses are built up.

    Guitar strings blister my fingers thats it.

    i really have never had that happen when playing an acoustic but usually guitar strings make my fingers numb and purple

    yeah strings never turned my fingers green either, usally i get calloses not green finged syndrome ;)

    So if I stay away from copper-wound strings this should stop?

    I must have an inherent dislike of copper (I ALWAYS throw away my pennies when I get them in my change). It just stinks.

    Yeah I only use Bronze coated strings.

    But it's probably sweaty, palms/fingers oxidizing the copper.

    Y'know, I was wondering why the octave was no longer sounding on my power chords, then I saw the problem: my pinky had crumbled off!
