Well it has a cool line up, as long as you can handle REM and the Beastie Boys mixed in with your jam bands (I can). However, with that line up it should be more a commercial fest than a real fest.
Hey all, first post, glad to be a new member of the community! Had to toss my two-cents in here... If you're looking for something off-the-grid, underground, smaller, and all-around more communal, check out the Burdock Gathering in Maine. There's a link at peoplesfreespace.org. I've attended the last three, and they're amazing. I myself, am put off by mass gatherings of people, and the whole festival scene with everyone fucking themselves up beyond recognition... the cops, the violence, bad vibes, etc. Sure, it can, and usually is a good time, but I've found my heart to be in community oriented gatherings. Burdock is absolutely amazing... to describe it in one sentence: A week-long commune on an organic farm, bordering the beautiful Sandy River in Starks, ME. This is in no way affiliated with the festivals put on at Harry Brown's Farm through Maine Vocals (which are no different than any larger festival, just smaller scale... surprised someone didn't list these yet!). Anyway, maybe someone will take interest. The next Burdock is this coming August... we're thinking about developing a permanant community there.
Sounds cool man. For the record there is damn near no violence or cops at the large festies that I go to.
I guess maybe I've just heard some bad rap about large festies... I've only attended smaller things... even Hempstock, Harvest Fest, etc. (in Starks) sound too large and drug-hyped for me. Not that I have a problem with enlightened usage of substance, but blatant abuse bothers me and makes me uncomfortable. I guess Harry Brown's used to be a pretty nice communal thing, but as it was popularized and grew it seems to have degenerated a bit... I wouldn't mind attending larger events with extra time and money available, though.
Ive been to most of the above it all depends on what your looking for. Great blue heron is wonderful. hookahville, nelson ledges in ohio is great. Grassroots is great ny and nc, the harvest by dambsam is kick ass, people from all over but i dont like political rallys with my music. if you want to see a wonderful fest go to langerado this will be 3rd for me there moving the venue to Seminole indian res. and going to 4 days including camping. but you got to be on your toes or your going to miss someone great its a full on! non stop 4 day jam.... too bad we have to sleep! last year we met a bunch of great people and went to the keys afterwards... WOah
You could try the Great Blue Heron Festival in western new york. It's in Panama/Sherman, right near Panama Rocks (beautiful place, check it out). It's usually early July. There's a music tent, dance tent, vendors, drum circles, and there's free tent camping in the woods, which my friends and I wandered all night. Good vibes.
if your down for psytrance i would say the aum project in arkansas or the gaian mind festival in pennslyvania and miamis ultra music festival
