Would you consider it rude if you knew someone who listened to Bryan Adams and boy bands and all that and you made fun of their music? I've known some people who take it very personally and it's hard for me to actually think that anyone who listens to boy bands or other MTV/mainstream radio crap would actually feel like they need to get defensive about their music. I mean... maybe I'm a snob, but it's almost impossible for me to imagine thinking that any of that stuff is actually written by people who want to make good music!!!

Yea all that shit is commercialized garbage for idiots. It's geared for people with no musical taste, and no idea of what music is. Make fun of it all you want.

Ya, it's rude. You can say you don't like their music or it's not to your taste, but it's rude to say it sucks. But you pretty much knew that already, didn't you?

I think we should be understanding that everyone comes from different places and have different styles and tastes and that makes the world more beautiful and interesting...and it's important to have understanding that just because you don't like something it might mean a lot to someone else(even if it's Brian Adams *barf*) I sometimes get a little sour when people are critical of my music. I don't care if people don't personally like something, thats fine, but don't be a jerk about it. What gives any of us the right to be judgegmental of someone elses taste...I feel like it's enough to say you don't like something and explain why but there's no excuse to be mean about somethingg someone else loves- especially music.

I just don't understand why people get so worked up about it. I mean, pretty much everyone in the world knows that boy bands are products and not real music... and everyone knows that Bryan Adams is a syrupy syrupy melodramatic bonehead with an affected voice and not one shred of sincerity or intelligence in any song he's ever written.

I think that people who listen to him must know on some level that they really don't have good taste in music, so they really shouldn't get upset when someone points out that fact.

Anyway, another kind of music that really sucks is Korean pop. It's a lot like Western pop only they use brighter lights in their videos to make their faces look nicer, they're skinnier, they're not as slutty, and they have gayer hairstyles and clothes. Every single song involves a 'tender' voice singing the verse, gradually building up to a really intense 'crying my eyes out' voice during the chorus, then finally going back to the 'tender' voice for the final note of the chorus, and another 'tender' verse.

It baffles me how people can keep buying the same shit over and over and not feel like maybe they're perpetuating the cycle of entertainers and producers who like to talk down to their audiences.

Everyone's music sucks to someone else, it's just a fact. And there's no reason you can't like great talent and power pop at the same time, like I love Thelonious Monk and Leonard Cohen, but I also love Veruca Salt and The Bangles, as long as you can recognize the difference between good as in you like the song for how it sounds and good for actual talent

everyone has their own music that they listen to..
i have a couple friends that listen to rap and stuff that i absolutely hate.
i might say that i don't like it or it sucks, but i still don't mind listening to it if i'm in their car or whatever. i respect the music they like and they respect mine, even if they don't like it

Sure, it's a bit rude but if someone can't handle a little bit of rudeness there is no way they'll survive in this brutal world.

    You bet it is rude!

But if I do not like it, I will tell them it sucks.

Well, unless she is hot...then I will say I like it.

yeah its rude, taste in music is diffrent for everyone. and even u have probli got ur own little guilty pleasures (music wise, that is) that r really mainstream but u still like 'em. u can say u don't like it, but to say it sucks is just wrong cos its subjective.

I don't like any mainstream music that isn't first given at least an 8.0 by pitchforkmedia.com.

Of course it's not rude. If they like Justin Timberlake or most of that american crap (not all of it is only most of it.) Then they're a bloody dickhead.

Big difference between rudeness and criticism.

as a musician I crave criticism, but when people are don't right ugly about it, it can really hinder someones confidence in themselves.

    So, the answer is no

    I like polka.

No offense, but I have the sneaking suspicion that your opinion wouldn't be articulate or insightful enough to carry much weight with me. Also, I'm a jerk.
