like, if you've been smoking pot for so longg, and you used to enjoy it.. but now it just makes you paranoid, and anxious.. and you get all quiet, and reserved..

thats just cause you're insecure!! about self-image. (or maybe its just that the 'cops' might find you, or your 'parents' might find out..). i dunno.. ... yeah, i just realized that. lol

hoorayyyy!!... lol yeah yeah i know it doesn't take a genious to figure that out.. but still, i never really realized it before, although i did knoww in a way. just didn't realize.. you know? lol

I worry alot while high but not because of the police.. just about life and like the OP said it's probably partly due to being insecure.

Pot being legal would not stop the paranoia... everyone has some kind of insecurity and smoking enough will bring this out in paranoia.

i do isolate and get very quiet when i smoke, but not because im paranoid. I just over think everything and have really fucked up thoughts. really messed up shit. i never used to be like that but now i am. i dunno thats why i quit smoking though.

That's not true at all. I almost never get paranoid about being high. I get paranoid that people are laughing at me, that I am not fitting in, etc.

Edit - I see someone had made this point already, but yeah.

I disagree... In my situation, if pot was legal and you couldnt get in trouble all my paranoia would be out the window.. But many of you made a good point about self image, but i really dont have any problems with that... I have nothin but good thoughts when im high , but often get a litle worried about being caught...

Everyone always feels alone sometimes. But it's just the weed.

Most of us have some really crazy thoughts going on all the time, and when we get high and expand and these subconscious images and words suddenly emerge into our expanded consciousness, it can be terrifying.

I blame entertainment, and what we choose to consider entertaining. Just look at the negative and twisted things we're absorbed in at all times.

I'm not for censorship one bit, but I'd have to be turning a blind eye to say that taking in video game violence and far out horror movies for years hasn't burned some crazy shit into my psyche.

The solution? Try to seek out entertainment that is life and love honoring. I've been listening to some Grateful Dead in place of the angry punk I usually take in and it's made things better for me. It's taken the edge off some. I can imagine that a few months of being mindful of what images and sounds I let into my brain will do me a ton of good.

I hate to say "don't listen to metal, don't watch horror movies" but I think there may really be some truth to it. It's difficult, like giving up a hard drug must be, but I believe that some of my interests and tastes have been toxic to me.

But it's like your diet. It's okay to eat junk sometimes, but be careful that the bulk of what you put in is good stuff.

Also be aware of your thoughts and whether you choose to fixate on the negative or positive in your life. Deep breathing and meditating on the great things and people you've been gifted with in your life can and will turn things around.

A lot of what I've said sounds pretty square to me as I reread it, but it's my best advice to someone who wants to inject some beauty into his or her brain.

Oh, and seek out the natural world. The order and clear justice of nature can be great medicine for a troubled mind.

As an afterthought, maybe some metal, hardcore punk etc, is good for a balanced music diet, but becomes toxic when it's an obsession, like anything when taken to an extreme.

I want to make clear that I am not knocking people who listen to these darker or more violent genres, (most of what I've been listening to fits that description) but that they may want to rethink things if it's all they listen to, all they want out of music.
