There were more reasons to invade Iraq and remove Hussein from power, than to not do so.

-Strategic foothold in the Middle East.
-Remove a brutal dictator and establish a democracy in the Middle East in a country with the resources capable of supporting itself.
-Remove a dictator that has thumbed his nose at the UN, US, and rest of the world for over a decade.
-Remove a dictator that supported terrorism (no, I'm not claiming Iraq was responsible for 9/11).
-Display of power after 9/11 to show the world the determination of the US. There was talk in Washington after 9/11 that the US needed to go after more than an entity which has no single host country (al Qaeda).

Here are a couple for the left-wingers
    -Steal their oil
-So Cheney could give jobs to Haliburton
-Saddam tried to kill GHW Bush and Jr. wanted revenge
-Did I mention steal their oil?

These are not my opinions, but how Washington was looking at the issue.

-strategic foothold ... umm we've had bases in Saudi Arabia for several decades.
    - thumbed his nose at the UN and the rest of the world- bush did that on several occassions too
    - removed dictator that supported terrorism - bush forgot several other countries to invade, like Libya, Somalia, Korea ...
    - determination or stubbornness

    it was for oil
    haliburton did get lucrative contracts
bush did want revenge "he tried to kill my daddy"
    it was for oil

Guests on Saudi soil. Do you mean Prince Sultan Air Base? Eskan Village? What is their status now? There are religious sensitivity reasons why the US would want to minimize military presence along with the Kingdom not wanting to give the fanatics anymore reason to attack any "important infrastructure" that would have catastrophic consequences. Doha and al Udeid are a little less offensive than the land of Mekkah and Medinah.

Neither Bush or the United States had over a dozen UN Security Council resolutions passed against them regarding prohibited production of WMD however.

Again, more reasons to go after Iraq. Libya is a perfect example of the "No tolerance" precendent that Washington wanted to project. North Korea is on the right path. Somalia is a shithole, a humanitarian disaster, but no direct threat to the US.

I knew you would like that. :)

this is for all you people that think we went to iraq for oil. we get more oil from canada and mexico then we do from all of the middle east and europe combined. so please tell me why would we go to the other side of the world for something we can get next door? and if you dont believe me check out this website. http://www.gravmag.com/oil.html if we wanted oil we would invade canada and mexico.

This is for all you people that think that we didn't invade Iraq for it's oil:

Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world, not Canada or Mexico. Iran has the third largest. Do those countries sound familiar? Countries that we have either invaded or are considering invading.

The reason that we go around the world to invade countries to get their oil is that it vastly increases our access to world oil supplies, especially when we have no intention of rationing our oil consumtion.

And we most certainly do not get more oil from Canada and Mexico than any other place. We get more oil from Middle Eastern/OPEC countries than anywhere else.

And the information on that link is incorrect. The correct order of nations in terms of their oil reserves is: 1. Saudi Arabia. 2. Iraq. 3. Iran.

Well first of all, the political climate was much different during the time of the first Gulf War and immediately after 9/11. Also, in MY opinion, there were more reasons not to occupy Iraq and remove Saddam during the first Gulf War. The strategic objectives of the mission were to remove Iraqi forces from Kuwait and erode the military capabilities of Iraq, thus lowering the threat to the region that Saddam held. The coalition achieved these objectives very quickly. The US shared a belief with its Arab allies that there would be a popular revolt, or coup, that would remove Saddam from power without having to use military force. Invading Iraq in this post-cold war era would have gone against a precedent that the US was trying to set regarding international aggression. The US was establishing a model for the use of force. The process of gaining international support and forming a coalition, taking a multilateral approach. It was a success. Ironically, George Jr. chose to take the exact opposite approach.

You need to pay attention. Removing a dictator was one of the reasons they had for removing Saddam. The Bush Administration was looking at many different aspects and reasons for removing Saddam. In your opinion, if you were making this decision as the leader of the United States, what reasons would you have to invade Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, and what would be the consequences of doing so?Comparing Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to Iraq is about what I would expect from you. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are allies to the US. Alienating these allies could cause more harm good. Only 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi. I think you've been hanging around Gardener too long.

The Bush Administration thought they would find WMD in Iraq. There would be a much different opinion on the Iraq War had these weapons been found.

I wouldn't expect you to have the mental capacity to figure out that answer on your own. I have also asked you and others to show where I have ever supported the Iraq War. So far I haven't seen anything from anybody. Credibility has to be earned, you haven't earned shit. Where have I been hiding? I have posted regularly on these forums for the past few months. Some of my posts replying to your nonsense were removed by the mods if that is what you are talking about.

Yes, as a matter of fact it was Bush and his cronies.

Ha ha. You are too easy sometimes. I had never suggested that any of the reasons I listed were false, you did. I really do think you need to pay more attention also. What is the last line of my post that you quoted? You've got nothing.

Is your inability to provide any constructive input to a conversation the reason you constantly throw out insults?

People that love war and think that their country is superior to others are always going to look for an excuse to engage in a war. People that hate war, love peace, (and other human beings) and that value human life over everything else are always going to look for a way to avoid war, and to only engage in it as a last resort, if their country is directly attacked or invaded, for example.

Despots have looked for innumerable excuses for invading other countries since the beginning of time, and that's all they are-excuses. They're still doing the same thing today.

It would be nice if the war was over so that our soldiers would come home. Also anything good that happens has a little bit of irony since there's a war going on.
