I am bi-sexual, yet as I have a boyfriend, I recently seem to see myself as much more into guys than into girls, meaning I’m almost completely gay at the moment (hence me lurking in the gay section).

In the next summer break from my university, I was thinking of going travelling (I live in the UK), and might consider coming to a gay parade (my boyfriend is also considering going), mainly just to see what it is like. I was looking into the New York one, and others, I would like the opinion of someone who has been to these parades, how do you get involved? Do you just appear and join in? Any one’s that are particularly good?

I went to my first one last year and it was a blast. I definitely recommend going if you get the chance. I'm sure it would be similar for a lot of the parades but in my city there was a website and pamphlet that detailed the dates and times of everything. On the day of the parade there was a stage with live music playing and a big field for people to watch, concession stands, etc. The music played for a bit and then eventually they announced that the parade was going to start soon. Some local politions made some quick speeches and they said the parade was starting. Basically they gave everyone some quick rules (i.e. no throwing stuff to parade-watchers, don't harass protesters, etc.) and then the floats started pulling away and told the everyone in the crowd to find a spot and follow the the lead float.

So to answer your question, you basically just show up and join in. There is no formal process for registering yourself in the parade unless you want to operate a float or something.

    Have fun.

Thanks a lot, it sounds a lot easier than I thought it'd be.

Now I just gotta find one to go to, lol.

    Thanks Slick, :)
