Where Hippie girls raped during the upprisings in the 70s?

I saw a movie about an anti Vietnam war protest. A Hippie girl was raped by a police in the middle of a demonstartion. Did those things happen?

Do those things happen? Of course. A rapist doesn't have to be some creepy person with dark glasses and a black van. Sexual assault can and does happen all the time. The "summer of love" was no different.

 

yes, most definately. i have seen actual footage of a police raid at a dead concert and there was this hippie guy, with his hands behind his head and obeying everything the cop said and the cop busted him in the back of the head with a billy club. why? because he can get away with it.

 

I'm assuming a lot of that happened. More with hippie girls than others, probably because they might have been spending the night outside, or, I dunno, things like that :S I don't even want to think about it :S things like that just make you sick.

 

I'm not a HIPPE CHICK, so I can't speak from pesonal experience, but haven't many women (and some men) always been victims of rape throughout history (HIS-story)? The word RAPE is defined as: "to take by FORCE"! A military INVASION is a type of RAPE, "mugging" is a type of RAPE and so is forcing one's SEXUAL ADVANCES on others.

If you've studied GREEK and ROMAN MYTHOLOGY, they mentioned the idea of RAPE, such as: THE RAPE OF EUROPA (GREEK Mythology). Don't forget SODOM and GOMORRAH (BIBLICAL - Old Testament), as I'm sure that their may been much RAPING going on!

The HIPPIE PHILOSOPHY promoted the idea of FREE LOVE!!! When does "the line" between FREE LOVE and RAPE, start and begin? "Ask and thy shall receive." - THE BIBLE. If you ask for FREE LOVE, you might get it! However, there is the most important idea of "SHARED MUTUAL CONSENT"!

Some 60's/70's movies/tv shows showed HIPPIE CHICKS having RAPE attempts against them, by a conservative ("square") guy stating: "I'll take some of that FREE LOVIN', Baby"! It must be MATING SEASON!

Don't forget the HIPPIE phrase of: MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR!!!

I'm sure it did happen. Police can do whatever they want basically, they have a loto f power to really fuck up ones life. Believe me.

 

My mother was raped in Buena Vista Park in '68, so I know it did happen. It wasn't a cop who did it, but more in the vein of "here's a hippie chick, I'ma gonna get some free loving." It's one of the reasons that my mom has blocked out much of her hippie experience.

When I was briefly staying at a dope house on lower Shrager St, in The Haight around 67, there were several 'ladies there, some worked the streest to buy dope. I was very young, and not very streetwise yet. I was not a hooker altho I had nothing against them only sadness for them.

The paddy wagon would come.. the laws would beat down the doors and jack everyone up. I was a minor yet amacipated. The pigs would come barging in and roust everyone, take all the dope and then gather the 'ladies' up in the wagon. I had a good friend that had taken me under her wing named Jessie, she was a hooker and hooked on smack. She was a good person, just on a very distructive path.

When she would come back from these 'busts' she would tell me how the pigs would take the ladies out to the boonies and do the dope and make the girls have sex with them. Then they would just drop them off, what could they do.. call the police.

I was raped 3 times while I was doing my runnin'. I don't recomend traveling down the same path as I did.. was very difficult and heart breaking. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I learn.. yes I learned. I learn from making mistakes and wrong choices. Untill I grew up, I got wisdom and stopped making bad choices, cutting off the negitivity I was drawing to myself by putting myself out there. Beliving in others instead of myself.

What I saw was more then anyone should see or know about humanities darker side, and with the Light, come the Darkness. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. A lie is always dressed up to be the pretty truth. The truth is unashamed when standing naked before you even if it is ugly.

Back then, the truth was, the pigs could and did whatever they pleased. They didn't have the media looking like they do now.. cameras everywhere. Police burtality wasn't made public in them days.. not till The Civil Rights issues started making the press, and what the gov't would allow publisized.

Ahhh.. the good ole daze..lol..

I never know how I should react to the stories like this one. When I was very young I thought I might kill the bastards (there are lots of them around), but once I learned I couldn't. Yet the thing I hate most is this -- the opression of the unprotected.

I wander, how girls can keep gettin' on in the world like this, which is hostile to them. And no better today, than back then. Not talking about the police abuse, it is much wider and more common than that, if you know what I mean ...

Well, just as you told here: if we can't kill "the bastards", still we can make choices -- where to go and how to behave and many others. Hope everyone will understand it before it is too late.

we girls keep getting on in this world because we are strong. we know that if someone does something like that, they cant and wont get away with it.

i just turned 18 yesterday, but from the age of 8, my step-father was sexually abusive. i only had the guts to stand up to him and run away in august this year.

you're right, we cant kill "the bastards" BUT we can make them pay for what they did/do. We can send them to jail where they belong for abusing the rights of another human being.

May God help you in this matter, too. It is HE who gives us the needed strength, and HE is also a great comforter. I'm glad to hear you could somehow cope with that; but such things scar your heart and self-esteem. You need not feel "dirty" or "inadeqate" because of these things -- which girls usually feel deep inside in such cases.
Unfortunately, general attitude toward women in general in our society is degraded; that tells on the girl's mentality everywhere. So they let boys use them as toys because this is generally accepted and even advertised.
Hope you would be wise about such things!

the last few months have taught me to never trust anybody 100%, including your parents because the will let you down.
i think most girls need to learn not to go along with something because males expect it of them and stand up for themselves and do what they feel is right, regardless of whether everyone else agrees or not

 

Ye-e-s. Thankfully, almost every girl deep inside her has this feeling of her female nature and what she's been made for. You know what I mean: with all that freedom to be what you want to be, there is still something we've been made for, and that is what will make us feel the happiest, too. I, on my part, always trusted this as a good starting point. It is obvious to me, that being happy is NOT necessarily "doing your own thing". We need to be in command of our nature -- before we can start "doing our own thing". Such is my humble opinion.
And yes, it is VERY sad and frustrating to find out, that in the most important things you MUST make your own decisions and cannot "trust" others to make them for you.
Well, I'm afraid I'm going off topic.
Going back to it: I think, reasonable and wise behaviour can diminish the probability of a girl's being raped. I hope there are ways to diminish the risk.

Just as someone may be bad, they may be good... it is a choice they make, and as free will is, your life should never be allowed to be held in the hands of another.

Don't grow hatred to all due to the actions of a few... but you know as well as any that you have to always look over your shoulder.

I don't think there was ever anytime throughout history that women were not raped.

One of my friends tried it in a van I was driving and I made him stop. We were in the middle of no where and he wanted me to stop and toss the girl out.

I took her to a gas station where there was a phone booth. I would have done more but it was his van.
