I don't know if integrity is lost, or if I'm just getting old beyond my time, but it occurs to me that new music sucks. The only good bands to come out in the last 5 years were system of a down and slipknot, and even they are less than par now. The rest is irrelevant drivel, or tired old bands.

Where are the new greats like we had in the 90's? Where are the people who are doing something cool and original. It just doesn't happen anymore. Or has the popular scene just become so retarded that these cool bands are being ignored, or just don't want to be a part of it?

Anyway, I've given up, music is dead, it's only relics now......

OMG, you think that System of a Down is good? No wonder you hate all the new music. :p jk If I wanted to an album where every song is in the same key, and even further uses the same notes, I'd listen to punk or Eminem...

Music has yet to be truly alive, so how can it be dead?

    Remember one thing:

MUSIC WILL ONLY BE DEAD IF PEOPLE STOP BUYING RECORDS, IF PEOPLE STOP DONWLOADING STUFF, IF PEOPLE STOP HEARING THEIR OLD RECORDS, IF PEOPLE STOP MAKING MUSIC, EVEN IF IT IS ONLY TO THEM, THEIR OWN MUSIC. JUST FOR THEM TO HEAR IT...

SO, DONT YOU EVER SAY MUSIC IS DEAD. That will NEVER happen...

I'm really hoping that the decrease in record sales as a result of free online music downloading will drive out some of the more pop record selling based bands (like pretty much anything on tv or radio) as low album sales puts more pressure on a successful tour as the source of income and thus touring bands start to gain popularity

touring bands being pretty much any band of the jam band scene.......

Music isn't dead by a long way. If you truly think that SOAD and Slipknot (who are shit, incidently) are the only good bands of the last few years, then may I suggest looking slightly further under the surface of mainstream music? Yeah, the stuff you see on MTV sucks balls, but there are still so many musicians out there who make music purely for the love of music, and when that happens there will always be quality sounds coming out.

    Look deeper my friend. :)

slipknot is actually an awesome band as far as harder stuff even if they've been adopted by some people that kind of..tarnish it all, but yea musics not dead man. it's just really hard to find unless you're trained. like there's a lot of mellow stuff out these days like "and you will know us by the trail of the dead" or deathcab for cutie. it's good stuff. the mars volta. are crazy dude, like they're the new zeppelin if you ask me. coheed and cambria is okay too, but the voice might throw you out of it. check out some bright eyes. pedro the lion. a lot of it's somber stuff, but there's bands like yo la tengo and neutral milk hotel keeping things upbeat. it's out there man. im not exactly sure if you'll be into it, but it could be refreshing compared to what you're probably hearing.

it really is true that all new music sucks now. i was just thinking that earlier today. just have to be patient and wait for a great one to emerge out of nowhere. thats how it happens every time aint it? music is not dead, im just waiting for somebody to step up and tear these money grubbing wannabe gangters off the charts. somebody truly great will rise and take over sooner or later. bad sadly, i think its gonna be later...

for the most part you're right. there's not firm footing for good music like there was back in the day. way too much of the lame stuff going around.

its all crap man! only with few exeptions like tool and APC. im my opinion those are the best bands of the new millenium. but we need more bands that were as awesome as nirvana, green day, chili peppers, and smashing pumpkins. god damn '94 was a great year for music! (exept for the obvious tradgedy of kurts death) maybe im just getting old or something, but rap sucks, and rock might be dying unless someone can save it. and im sorry, but all these new "growling" bands as i call them are retarded, cept for slipknot and mudvayne.

People who like jam bands or rock/pop music from the sixties and seventies and are complaining in this topic that there isn't any good new music around, just aren't searching good enough.
Try a band like Liquid sound company, Masters of reality or something rather unknown like Acid king if you like some sort of renewed psych rock. It's different, but have you heard it?
Also try some trip hop or even drum 'n bass, may be you like it.
Most of my favourite artists aren't making music now anymore as well, but there is still good new music to be found, just search.
And if you longing for more good music, why don't you start yourself?

Claudio's (C&C) voice is amazing. It's weird at first, but you'll grow to love it. His voice brought me in if anything. They freakin rock live too.

The music is there, my friend, you just have to find it. Mainstream, unfortunately, leans more towards the music that's not so great. The good stuff just makes you look for it, instead of coming on your radio every couple hours. Check out concerts with bands you don't know. Download songs from bands that you've never heard before. You'll stumble into the good stuff.

Thank you, that's exactly what I meant. Back in the day, you didn't have to search for good music, it was just there. Now we're just bombarded with crap, and in that sense music is dead. Because the impressionable youth don't understand that what they're hearing is crap, rap artists ripping off riffs left and right, singing about the ghetto, which most of the population cannot relate too, yet most of the population listens to it.....

And the new metal bands, screaming blatantly about how depressed they are, with blind crunching riffs that a four-year-old could write...that's not art.....

And the only reason I like SOAD is because they project good energy, and they do it much better than any of the other mainstream bands. And slipknot was only good for their first album, then they became one of those stupid new metal bands. APC, likewise, lost it after their first album, but even they weren't really that good.

And for the record, weirdidiot, Tool is a product of the early 90's, when music was still cool.

So, to the rest of you, what are some more good late artists? I'm really not that closed minded for style, so whatever you think is good....

Bah, I hate the sound of Mudvayne even more than Slipknot (wich I already can't stand). I don't like any of the other bands you named very much, so even people who realize that most of the music nowdays suck, will not agree about the few bands that some will like...

Fear Factory isn't a new band.

I'm talking about anything from the last 5 years or so.
