Are any of you guys religious? Be it Christian, Hindu, anything? I was talking to someone who was saying you can't be hippie and religious! Realy can't see why not, so am gathering opinions!
i study and practice aspects Sufism, Hinduism, Bhudism, Christianity-ism...... they probably just have a thing against "ism's" and so feel that if you participate in any religion, you're clumping yourself in with an "ism." however, one thing that i think you should consider is this..... in my opinion, most of the people who are deeply religious also tend to be the least spiritual. and as far as christianity..... Christianity as we know it today has as much to do with Christ as Macdonalds has health food. there's two sides to Christianity..... Orthodox and Gnostic. Gnosticism is the side that the evil catholics don't want to acknowledge. i believe the "Gnostic Gospels" are what is found in the Dead Sea Scrolls but, i could be mistaken. but, i think the most important thing to always remember is something that Bhudda said..... no matter what you read or hear, if it doesn't aggree or resonate with your heart or "inner being", just don't believe it.
one more thing.... most "americans" and "christians" don't realize that the Muslims actually believe in Christ as well. all we're allowed to see are the "towel-head" fundamentalists that shout praise to God while thrusting a machine gun into the air. don't believe everything you're told.
Through ritual and ceremonies we make order out of chaos. In endless space, we create a fixed point to orient ourselves: a sacred space. To timelessness we impose rhythmic repetitions: the recurrent feast.... What is to vast and shapeless, we deal with in smaller, manageable pieces. We do this for practicality but we also do this for high purpose: to relate safely to the mysterious, to communicate with the transcendent.
I believe there is something bigger than us, it's the only thing that does make sense to me! I don't see why all parts of you can't fit together! Perhaps all Gods are the same, just different variations for different countries, people, etc? All I know is that I believe there is something bigger, I belive in hippie values and I will live with both of them! They make me the dot that I am!
He had long hair, wore sandels, and spoke of love and peace. We are talking about John lennon, or was it Jesus, they both were assassinated.
Werd on the MackyD's comment. As to the sides of Christianity there's more to it than that. There are the eastern churches, which, for the most part remain orthodox sticking to the old ways and required apistolic regression for church "rules". Then there are the western churches, such as catholicism, etc. There are further divides of these groups as well. But the profound difference in eastern and western practices should be acknowledged. Catholic Christianity is so far off the mark it's not even funny... one guy is infallable? "rules" changing at a whim, bollocks. I am growing more discontented with the established church though I identify myself as an Eastern Orthodox Christian (NOT CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN, there is a diff). Despite the fact that I believe the church has gotten to ostere and has lost the simple roots Jesus was driving at. Also in response to another poster, I am constantly amazed at the hatred and ignorance present towards Islam. You're right so many people have no idea that they accept Jesus and that he is frequently quoted all over the Qur'an
I dig John Lennon, his work, and you're point. But at the end of the day, no matter how active John was in the "hippie movement" and peace stuff... the guy was a mutimillionaire. It's easy to tout simple living when you've got mad cash in the bank for security.
Sure I'm religious. Why not? Jesus preached peace and love a long time before anyone else-if Christians had really adhered to that message, the hippie movement wouldn't have even been necessary. If Western society had followed what he taught, we never would have had war to protest against in the first place.
I've been thinking, why just have one religion? Why not combined what you feel/ agree with etc and do what makes you happy? There are so many aspects of different religions that I agree with, so I incorporate all of them into each day!
I think so long as you're careful to implement ideals it's possible to have a non-conflicting mix. Also there's no rush to slap a label on your faith either.
I think you should do what you believe. I agree with certain things and disagree with others just as everyone does.
I think you're right. However it doesn't make sense if you agree with two things that disagree with each other. There needs to be/should be some consistency.
im not religious, I believe in Jesus Christ. I dont consider myself a Christian though by personal choice. Im more spiritual with my Lord. If that made any sense. Made sense to me lol ~ you can be anything you want and still believe in a higher power in my opinion just as long as people dont get extreme.
