Day after day I watch it all crumble. The crash is coming - and be it heralded by war, famine, plague, or pestilence, I think deep down a lot of us feel it. They call us starseeds or indigo children or any number of new-age pseudo-metaphysical terminology, but none of that is as important as the fact that we feel it coming, and we know we're in the belly of the beast, and the beast is coming down around us. Beyond all that, we feel the need to escape. To just go...shake hands with all that there is now and say goodbye. We know this culture and society of ours doesn't want us, doesn't really have a place for us - yet this world itself does want us, does have a place for us. Most of us haven't been able to find a compromise amid that, and I'm in that group. So it's time to go. Time to drop off the grid. Time to be free. I am interesting in putting together a travelling commune, a hippy tribe, a gypsy caravan, call it what you will. One that moves at will and takes care of itself. No, I don't have all the answers on becoming self-sufficient, on getting started, or any of that. I'm researching it, working on it, training myself for it as best I can... ...which leads me to ask, is anyone interested? Does anyone have tactical advice on places to go, how to get started, tips for survival, etc? Does anyone want to come along?
If things keep going in the direction they're going, I sure as hell would. But that would require a lot of planning. I know a lot about survival and have repositories of various related knowledge.
Well, I am putting as much planning into it as possible - hence why I'm in here trying to look for further advice and what not.
If your trying to get alot of people together you should start posting up and getting new ideas on how to do simple things. i.e- Eating, would it be a group or individual thing? Would everyone share food or would people do something in smaller groups? Where/how would you get food? How important will money be along the way? Where/in what would people sleep? What would an average day be like? Alot of it would change depending on how many people your expecting to have. Just getting it started and running I think would be the most difficult part.
oh wow man thats a great idea..... food is easy, take a card from food not bombs, thats one, dried foods are eays, you can collect and keep them indefinatly, lose your pride, .... the proud doenst eat sometimes on the highway ! find a way to make money and try to stick with it, its so easy to fly a gas can at a ttruck stop for fuel or an out of gas sign at a walmart, I mean weve all beeen there but there is better ways, fuel go veggie, just learn the shit out of your engine before fucking with it talk to our kids man, find a way of working the finance taht everyone agrees with, then stick to the rulles. many buses out there have semi communal financial formulas, greed gets to everyone, thats all learning though You;ll get it. small quarters, try to keep things clean disinfect as much as possible one gets sickk yall do if you have a craft learn it and utilise it on the road, collect buskers, and crafters, twinkies suck but kick down a lot at the beggining but become useless a lot of the time, the way of life your looking for is very possible, its hard though and it becomes more of a job than you might expect. everyday your busting to survive, your living better then anyone el;se you see, but you are off the grid living threw out babylon, after a while you are not babylonians at all anymore...thats awsome and scary. you see things different. its not for the timid, but I wish you well happy highway kids! if yall ever see one of the THC buses make sure you honk!!!! peace any questions Id love to help.
hey grim, i dream of the same way of life man.. and When being that all looming question. i hear it takes work. before hitting the road even, i hear it takes work,.. and too, i heard to keep working .. to keep working until we do set forth. i imagine it taking a tribe - like the 7 dwarfs, we can take care of anything that we need to take care of. **~* dream writing*~** in late april a couple of us from the forums who really want to get a bus on the road truly truckin will come together, somewhere.. we could meet up anywhere~! and when we come together, we will have a sack of golden coins that we have been saving up for exactly this; we will purchase a bus and entirely suit it to home- comfortably. down shack county . and , by summer.... bring in the ancor and set sail ~~~* ~* ** ~~**~* the highway song has been in my soul for a while .. and i been thinkin its about that time to really turn these dreams into reality. i tell ya,, i'm down.
Ive been off and on the grid for some time now... and ive got to say it can be easier when its just yourself to look out for, but it can also be so much more difficult. All i know is i would like to join up. I dont have much cash to throw in, but I do have some experience in travelling this country. Also, I can make hemp necklaces and such on the road to help with funding the gas tank. Let me know if things seem like they are coming together. I should be able to help out around the end of April.
Yeah everyone feels it, but not a lot of opportunities in the USA. Its really sad. Because if the $ economy is disrupted there's going to be a lot of problems. If you want to travel you can stay at youth hostels. You can get a room in Mexico for $100 a month-just go somewhere safe not border region. You can volunteer on farms although at times that feels like exploitation.
I love the idea. I have so many thoughts, and ways to make it work. I would be more than willing to help you with your journey, and begin your dream, i share the same. If you would like to email me, i would love to talk to you about it further. Ivy052006@hotmail.com

you have a good idea but you really need to do some thinking on it man, you need some provisions stored up for your trip that wont go bad for the bleak and thin times on the road. Should you wish to visit TN. I live out in the boondocks with plenty of room for nomad hippies and i can teach you about on the road survival and other things and may even join the caravan so good luck peace out and feel free to contact me
