I used to totally not wear skirts, like occasionally I would but not often. However, once I discovered the magics of buying from thrift stores, I also discovered gorgeous floor-length skirts that came from India and had a 60's-hippiechick-look. I loved them! I bought, like, 4. Then I started sewing and made 4 so far, so now that's mostly what I wear. They're so much free-er and less restricting. I now own one pair of bellbottoms, one pair of overalls, and one pair of sweats. Then the rest is 4 peasant dresses and like 10 ankle or floor length skirts Has anyone else found the joys of skirts?
Skirts are pretty much all I wear. I'd estimate that I have over fifty (my mom loves going thrifting, so I get new ones every week).
I used to wear jeans all the time, but now I'm addicted to my skirts... They're nice and cool and unrestricted...yaay!
I love skirts, but I mostly love minis becase they use less material, so I can make them from pillow cases and what have you. I love mins, makes me feel real 60s
i used to be anti-skirt but around the 10th grade i started buying long black cord skirts for school. we had to wear uniforms and i wanted to be different LOL. when i went back to regular school i kept the skirt thing going on! mostly long or just below the knee.... i have made quite a few and am working on more today!!
You can make knee length ones from pillow cases super easy! Cut off the end so you have a tube, turn the end you cut off into a drawstring, hem the end but, leave a whole for the drawstring and thread the drawstring through with a safety pin. Did that make sense? You can get the coolest retro pillowcases if you go thriftin'. i swear by them!
I still can find those gauzy Indian skirts (I think they call them "broomstick" skirts because there's a weird way to do the skinny lil pleats that has something to do with a broomstick---anybody know about that?) at the thrift stores (Of Which I Am Queen). My daughter wears sarongs wrapped like a skirt in the summer, she has about 4 or 5 of them and just loves them. I like how a skirt feels but sometimes they're not practical (like crawling around on the floor with a toddler).
I love minis, almost summer so its just about time to go out and buy some new ones! I hate shorts, so skirts are my only option in the summer.... not that I'm complaining!
I love minis..but i also love loong skirts. I got one at a street stall in NYC. Its really hard to describe, but incredibly beautiful
I love skirts too!But I prefer the long ones,or the ones under the knee.I have 5(only)but I have long dresses too which are very comfortable too!Look at those fantastic skirts! They rock!
Sigh it's so sadI have like 7 homemade ones now (along with 3 purses and a hedgehog carrier and corset and apron and right now I'm making a bodice), plus 5 skirts and dresses. I have one that rises above the knee (80's-style black denim miniskirt with little chains), and one I made that stops just a couple cm above my knee. But they're so wonderful. It sucks cuz now winter's approaching, but it's okay because I just wear jeans under them and am going to make heavier skirts to wear
I used to hate wearing skirts, but now like everyone else it is practically all I wear. I do not believe in having a lot of clothes though if I know I am not going to wear it. My husband has the same belief. We are in the middle of moving and went thru our clothes and got rid of a lot. He is down to 4 pants, 10 shirts, and an iralei jumpsuit. I am down to 4 skirts, 2 dresses, 4 pants, 10 shirts, and a sweater. LOL I still have more than him... Peace and Love.
I've only got two skirts that I really wear, a long denim one, and a short wrap skirt that I wear over jeans
