heh, we certainly are in the best part of the country for propper dance music and I'm well aware of all the bristol/bath soundsystems as I have friends in a few of them, it's still good but it's just not how it used to be (I'm suddenly reminded about the bit in Human Traffic when the talk about Tom Toms and how great it used to be then flash back to a crappy night club with lots of people wearing yellow dungarees. Those were the days, ahhhhhh)
Nothing wrong with alcohol. It's the people that ruin the vibe. Either by being ass-holes who's worse nature is brought out by booze, or by drinking far too much.
true but I have to say that while there's nothing wrong with alcohol people who have more booze in them are more likely to try and kill you than someone who's smoked too much dope for example. Alcohol is known to make violent people violent a lot easier than other things, having said that I don't know one single person who gets drunk and wants a fight, what good friends I have!
hmm, I recon Coke is ok really, I haven't touched the stuff in a long time myself but I've always been fine on it and I've never seen people get anywhere near as arsey as they would if they were really pissed. It is well dodgy though, £50 for a gram that you then have to share amongst your friends so lasts only half a night, complete waste of money!
If love and peace is what makes you a hippy then fuck it Someone just tried to steal my van, they pop a quarter light, get inside, rip off the ignition cover round the steering wheel and then leave without stealing the van or anything inside I won't even bother going into detail about what I'll do if I catch 'em. Today I'm no hippy, the fucking slagbags
Shit happens eh? Not so wound up now, I'm lucky that nothing was stolen and that they didn't nick the van ... just have to be more careful when using karma as a security device
Nah. Love 'n' peace is just part of it. I remember an old hippy giving me a lift into Glastonbury festival in her abulance many moons ago. She was kind enough to share her philosophy with me. "Love 'n' peace man, but don't fuckin' push it!!!!".
I wouldn't say so, no. Maybe I fit some of the stereotypes now and then, maybe I get called one sometimes too, and looking around, I find myself on a hippy website. However, I still wouldnt class myself as a hippy. Why? Because I'm 16. I dont know who the hell I am yet. Oh, wait. I am me. *rolls eyes at inevitable cliche and ponders on whether to delete the last line.....then decides not to, and clicks submit.*
I am more of a hippy in my attitudes and beliefs, I do take it as a compliment if some one calls me one
I was thinking, trends have come and gone; we have had mods, rockers, teddy boys, soul boys, punks, skinheads, rudeboys, hippies and more. Out of all these 'Hippy' is one of the only terms that still survives to describe a whole outlook on life and no longer anything to do with following a trend but more about rebelling against it.
I dont personally think it matters what lables people give themselves or are given. But then i dont see anything inherently wrong with lables themselves, so long as we look past a singular lable. For example someone can be a "scally" and still someone who volunteers in a hospice. Or an "upstanding member of society" and still beats their children. At the end of the day were all alike in the fact that we all conform to some groups or others. Dont really know wht id class myself as though, mb hippy, i have the general mindset, probably liberal, dunno brain hurting .. going to bed.
"Trends are for tombstones, baby" Mr. Big out of Live and Let Die, James Bond film. NB. ok he actually said "Names are for tombstones, baby" but i just adapted it. :H I have no idea why i posted this
Here's a thought that may prove unpopular. Those that voted 'absolutely ... man' are actually 'Only because of the way I look, its only a fashion thing'. And those that voted 'Others call me a hippy, but I don't really use the term myself' are actually closer to a true hippy in the older sense. I personally don't like the label. It's pigeon holeing me as a middle class hand-wringing counter-culturalist. oh.... hang on... Anyway, I don't want to be part of the machine - if people from inside the machine can only find the word 'hippy' to describe me, it doesn't bother me much.
