What is it about Xanax/Klonopin/Valium that people like?

Hi Everyone. I have read many articles about benzodiazepines and their "high risk for abuse" and was just wondering what it is about these drugs that people like. I obviously understand why people love opiates, but why Xanax or Klonopin? My doctor has prescribed me Valium, Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax...I have tried them all and they all do the same thing for me--just make me extremely drowsy. I decided to stick with the Valium and I basically just use it as a sleep aid. I don't expect any euphoric feeling or anything like that but I have read many postings from people who seem to love Xanax, etc. To those of you who do, I'm just curious what these type of drugs do for you and why you like them so much.

That's a good question. I too have had Xanax, Valium, Ativan and Restoril prescribed and found that it only makes me a sleepy. I have on a bad day at work took a small bit to "take the edge off" or if I felt like I needed a little something to make it through but on average I took the xanax at night just to sleep. I now take it with the Oxycodone to help with pain/sleep and to increase the effects. I too have always wondered why people thought these drugs were so great. Of course here in the US the are a schedule IV for abuse potential which is one step above schedule 5 (cough syrup with codeine) which shows that the DEA isn't too concerned about them.

 

I used to love em, not really sure why anymore.

Whenever I take em now, they give me really bad phlegm and they lower my body temperature way too much.

I too take clonazepam now as a sleep aid and it works like a charm, I just can't stand staying awake on it though...

 

GOOD question, and one I've asked myself many times before.

I've mostly only used benzos to save me from the brunt of a bad comedown on the days when my prescription for oxy/percocet runs out. However, Clonazepam (Klonopin) is by far my favorite. If I take it in .5-1mg doses, it makes me drowsy, sure, but it also makes me feel.... not euphoric like opiates, but just generally unconcerned. I have anxiety issues as it is, and worry non-stop about everything I need to get done (or sometimes where the hell I'm going to get my next load of pills, haha) and when I take clonazepam, I lose those thoughts and can be in the moment.

But honestly, I can't see why people like to take benzos recreationally. I take them with a very specific purpose: to help me ignore my withdrawls from my pain meds, to help me sleep, and to stave off my anxiety when it becomes overwhelming.

Was given a 10mg valium for an MRI i had two days ago...hardly felt a thing, and still freaked about 15min into the scan and they had to sedate me with ativan, haha (i'm super claustrophobic)

 

haha, I can get valium for pretty cheap, and I've always asked myself the same question..... Because I've tried it a couple times, and I suspect I might have had more fun if I hadn't taken it.*

*that sentence took me about 5 rewrites to make it sensible. MESCALINE.....truly a beautiful thing

 

Same thing hear with me I have never been big on any Benzo's at all, All I use them for is to come down of coke or even a Speedy LSD trip if I can't get opiates. All they do for me is knock me the hell out and put me into a deep long sleep. For get about it if I take 2 or 3 Xanax sticks I can sleep for 14 to 16 hours straight and I am still tired when I wake up,To me there is really no high at all from them they just slow things down thats all I can see how they are good for panic attacks and anxiety though. But for the high I have never seen the big appeal that some people have with them. I think the reason they are so addictive has nothiong to do with people loving the high and wanting it more and more psychological addiction.Its that they are very easy to get physically addicted to if you take them for a number of days in a row and then you have to keep taking them so you don't get sick and go into withdrawl. I know with benzo's that they are so dam bad to get addicted to though. The withdrawl and sickness is 100 times worse then Herion and last a long time you can have seizures from the withdrawl some people then have strokes from the withdrawls from there blood preassure being so high. So the withdrawl could kill you !!!! But the high has never been my cup of tea I could really care less if I ever used them again. I still have 25 or 30 2mg Xanax sticks sitting in my draw upstairs from when I orderd them over the net almost 2-1/2 years ago. I have not touched them in over a year now. The last time I used them was when I could not get Heroin after a night of doing coke. They are great for a coke or speedy LSD to come down though.Within a hour after doing coke or coming of the LSD you are ready for bed. It beats staying up for hours and going nuts for more coke and feeling like total shit. But I would rather use Opiates or Herion to come off coke any day of the week. All in all I could not care if I ever took a Benzo again.

 

i hear the opiates+benzos get you more fucked up, but not many people i know take benzos by themselves.

 

I find zero recreational value to Xanax....just makes you alittle loopy and tired... There really is no euphoric high at all...

 

i found them pretty good when i'm just really hyper and can't get to sleep. other than that, they really help with anxiety.

i have taken so much xanax, valium, kpins, and atival in my like and find the effects to be a bad version of alcohol. You cant even tell how fucked up u were until the next day when you realize that you have no memory of all the stupid shit people say you did.

 

Good point goofydrummer you are so dam right that is one thing about them its so easy to black out from them. You can never tell when you over did it until its way to late. The next thing you know you wake up its the next day and you don't remember shit from ther night before. And not only balck out its such a thin line form taking a few and just chilling and feeling dead tired where you feel like shit and you can't do nothing. And I hate that it scares the shit out of me when I black out from eather Benzos or Drinking. If you are Mixing a few Benzo's with a night of drinking its almost 100% certain you will black out that night. Another thing I hate fro me is when I am one most Benzos, Xanax is the worst the whole time I have a nasty taste in my mouth. I have no idea why they do that to me. Its not like the Metallic taste that LSD gives when you are one it. Its a weard taste I can't explain it I know its just nasty. The Bottom line for me is Fuck Benzo's.

 

I take benzos when I need to not be in my own head, and just chill. their nothing special, they just allow people with too much anxiety to relax. maybe people who function well in social situations dont get that. I prefer them to alcohol when it come to chemical courage.

 

all i know is, my old friend use to take like...1-2 bars and be a complete and total dick...he also fucked himself up pretty bad on his enduro like 3 times...so i will never touch those things...let alone most pills.

 

yeah im pretty sure it affects different people differently and we get the same exact thing. i feel completely sober on it, i know im fucked up, but it gives you no satisfaction and it seems like you will reach a good poing if you take more. But that doesnt happen, and its too late after fuckin 10 mgs of xanax. i got suspended from school like that. i took 3 cuz i had to give a big presentation and my script had like 30. i just had to keep poppin em.

 

i dunno about you guys but i love benzos. kpins used to be my best friend. i once ate two bottles full of them (don't remember anything from that night although i was only in my house) the last few times i've taken klonopins it's always gone way way downhill. i get wicked depressed and can't snap out of it. it sucks...alot.

i tried xanax once and loved it. it was just like klonopins except the high didn't go to worse after a few hours.
