So I guess asking for peace on Earth for Christmas is a little much...

LOL cause ya memorize it when the grown ups are drinking, then someday you get the priviledge of slurring your own way through it. Great fun!

So that's how it works. I blame my parents for not teaching me good drinking songs.

Sorry to post such a drag question. It is just I have a family member deploying to Iraq again.

I know my question was futile and silly. We will have peace when we want it. Until then I need to learn some Irish drinking songs. Take my mind off things.

I am sorry to hear that, I would never make light of such a thing. ((((BIG HUGS)))) It is soo very hard to see a loved one walk into the horrible fray!! My brother suffered over there and will never be the same.

You made me laugh! That is what I needed. Thank you.

Sorry about your brother. It's my step brother. But I consider him my true brother. Told him not to join. Told him it was stupid. But he made his decision.

I just wish this maddness would end.

    Thank you

I know what ya mean! I want the Iraqis to have freedom and happiness, but sacrificing our brothers is asking a little much. This world is such cruelty sometimes. I wonder where all of the hatred comes from?!

I don't know where the hate comes from.

But I do believe in Love. Thanks for being here. That was all I needed.

Believing that there will be peace on earth one day is just like believing in Santa Clause. Innocent, idealistic, and a tad childish.

People are a tad too greedy and stupid for peace.

Very idiotic statement. You do not see the bigger picture because you view *yourself* as too greedy/stupid to be peaceful... and by carrying that attitude you are.

Peace isn't hard, in fact its much easier than war. Its only hard because of the world we live in, society's acceptance of the ideals you posted. Peace itself is as easy as not hating, which is VERY easy if your neighbor knows the same thing.

Thats all it takes, stop saying its impossible, you are the naive one.

Peace is in yourself... you cannot wish to guide the path of someone who does not wish to be guided... forcefully holding on to anything is greed... rather that be literally or figuratively. There is no peace in greed.

Meditation is the answer, check it out:

Any question falls upon deaf ears as long as the one asking does not seek the answer.

Thank you for the replies. I really was not looking for advice.

I was just hurting because a member of my family is being deployed to Iraq.

All I needed at that one instant was for someone to listen to my pain. I got that.

I know peace begins with me. That does not change the fact that I was hurting inside at the moment I posted this.

    Thank you

I now release this thread. It is no longer mine. It can go where it wants to go.

Look at the entirety of human history, and find one instance where a civilization was peaceful with no war?
If you can find one, i guarantee a stronger neighbor conquered them eventually.
I think, based on the facts, it is indeed you that are being naive.

There have been MANY instances where a civilization was peaceful with no war and no not all of them were taken over by a 'stronger neighbour'. Having said that there were many instances where the same civilizations were at war.

    Grow up.

As Crummy said, there hasn't been a single instance in all of human history where there was world peace. Not even one.

Hell, even our earliest knows ancestors, the Australopithecus was known to kill.

I'm not even going to start talking about Archaiac homosapiens... who not only killed each other, but also probably wiped out the entire neanderthal race.

Ofcourse, then there's recorded human history.

So anyhow... don't give me that shit, hombre.

it really shouldn't happen, though. we need equilibrium, people have to die. though it's human to prefer it's not your own family.
