I finally got my copy of Supercharge Me! - the raw food documentary. All I have to say is WOW. I loved it...I've seen quite a few 'documentaries' on raw food and none of them had the high quality production and great information that this one. Anyone else seen this?
lol, the dude in the raw t-shirt.. wow, lol. he goes no one thinks junk food is good for you anymore and the food is treated with so many pesticides, herbicides, larvacides, fungicides, suicides(creepy smile) WTF?
It's interesting what she's doing but I found that trailer to be so BORING, i had to struggle to watch the complete thing and that's me who is interested in this whole raw, healthy eating thing, but I dont know, maybe if I actually see it, I can see how great it is, but it didnt make me want to see it.
Awesome!!! LOL Token White Kid......I love that piece by David Wolfe, I thought it was hilarious...The raw chocolate he is pictured with is one of my favorite foods ever
That guy looked JUST like Avocado - from the show Mad Mad House! Wonder what happened to him, anyway. Uhh, I just googled him... and he IS Avocado! Duh! Don't I feel sheepish now, huh? Now I've GOT to see if my libraries got any of his books! love, mom
LOL That IS Avocado, AKA the chocolate pope, aka my hero! I highly recommend his book Naked Chocolate which you can get for cheap on amazon.com
So did you have any of his books HSM??? You know he is about to come out with a brand new book called Amazing Grace...which is more of a spiritual book than a nutrition book but I am sure it talks a lot about the importance of good health... It's available for pre order on amazon.com now...He also just released a new 8 CD/Workbook/Card Deck Raw Food Program here - http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=650623 He is definatley an entertaining health guru...you can see one of his newest videos for free here - http://lifeandlove.tv/health/dw_bestdayever/dw_bestdayever.php
Hey avocado noni do you know much about hemp oil? I heard in a speech with jack lalanne who is 90 something he said : " if mad made it dont eat it". What can be said then about using oils? Im sure they come from the plants but indeed they arnt as natural since they had to be processed somewhat. I can see dairy not being healthy since it is totally manmade, but what about oils like olive oil, hemp oil..etc? Im just wondering if hemp oil would be good to use on a daily basis? Im thinking I would use it to pour cold on top of vegetables, add to already cooked pasta/rice/quinoa.
Ive been high raw for months and aside from some very bad malabsorption problems i have from before i changed, which im now successfully treating, i feel FANTASTIC. Im on day 5 of a 30 day 100% challenge at the mo, hope i can keep it up. It works. Thats all
I also found the trailer to be boring, and it bothers me that she presents the documentary as if the main reason behind going raw for 30 days was to fit into a silly Halloween costume (when I thought she looked perfectly thin before!).
I have a question. The whole raw foods thing - what makes raw veggies better than cooked? I'm actually allergic to raw fruits and veggies (makes my throat itch and my lips swell and burn). How would I get the benefits of the food into my diet?
Wow-allergic to raw food!? Ive never heard of that before. Are you sure its not just certain fruits and veggies? I cant really see how the body could be allergic, unless the food is unwashed or non-organic (pesticides), or it could be something with the enzymes in the food although it would be very rare for your body to react badly to those as theyre supposed to be there Ok, benefits. When we cook food we decrease its nutrient value a pretty high amount. Thats the food dying, which is why cooked veggies wilt and change colour and basicaly start to look dead. The plants, if left to their own devices or left to every single other animal in nature, would never reach the temperatures we subject them to. They just cant completely hold on to their nutrient value with the heats we put them at Raw plants, as i understand it, also still have all their enzymes which aid in digestion. When we eat something cooked, our body needs to produce all its own enzymes to handle the food, which is a strain on the body, and as we get older the body will tire and we become unable to break down foods properly. Our bodies also treat cooked and processed food like they would an invader or poison, producing more white blood cells after eating, which is again a lot of effort. This doesnt happen when plants are eaten raw. Also (and bear with me, as im no scientist ) i think the heat frm cooking changes the cell structure of our food. So it becomes like something else. Thats what ive read, anyway. I guess it would explain the body reacting negatively. Im no expert in this area and anyone who knows more itd be great if you could explain it to me, or correct me! Raw foods are lighter. You dont get that awful heavy "im so full and podgy" feeling after eating, you actually have more energy. This of course takes some getting used to, as i was used to having a bloated up, warm belly after foods and having a nap. That was my body desperately trying to digest that hideous meal id just put in there. A piece of fruit or a salad is so much easier for it. Raw food is healing, even Raw is simple. The way all other animals eat. It takes you "back to nature" in a sense, as you always know exactly what youre putting in your mouth and where it came from. Youre not risking any nasty ingredients-bleaches, dyes, pesticides (if you buy organic), additives, sweeteners and other chemicals which have no business being in a human digestive system Youre also GREATLY reducing your impact on this planets environment. Fruits and veggies can be bought locally usually, reducing pollution there. Lack of processing reduces pollution. Buying organic is not supporting pesticde pollution. Raw food has very little, if any, packaging. And the seeds of the fruits can be planted to make another tree, and other seeds to make sprouts. You can of course grow a lot of your food at home, too I think thats about all
It's certain raw fruits and veggies, but the list is pretty long. Apples, bananas, grapes, any melon. Basically anything that isn't citrus. I haven't actually eaten more than just raw carrots, and I'm allergic to those. As far as I know I'm fine with celery. As I understand theres an enzyme in the food, I don't know which, and I'm allergic to that. It's not a really strong reaction, to be honest I *could* just go on and eat the foods. I would just have to make sure there are NO cuts on my lips or they swell up and burn. I don't know exactly what's going on. I just told my doctor what happens and she said that it was an allergic reaction to an enzyme. I have a friend that also cannot eat these foods raw. With the fruits, it depends on the time of season they're harvested, as I believe apples are a relative of ragweed and contain some of the same allergen at certain times of the year, which I'm apparently sensitive to. Man this sounds like a really good diet. I wish I could do it.
Oh, lettuce also bothers me. That's why I rarely eat salads. And cucumbers. I eat them so rarely I forgot to mention them.
