Oh no doubt there are problems with Canada's health system too. I hear the waiting time for a lot of different surgeries is CrAzY long. But it still would be nice to know that if problems did arise, I would be able to be seen by a physician.
Cuba's healthcare looks a lot better than American healthcare. But the French really pull it off nicely
I definitely thought this was one of Michael Moore's better films. However, I think it is a shame now that he's already made a name for himself as an extreme liberal, so now conservatives wouldn't be caught dead seeing his films. I think they needed to see this one, but since it's a Michael Moore film, I'm pretty convinced that the people that SHOULD be seeing it, won't. I can tell you one thing...my partner and I are now more seriously looking at trying to move to another country because of this film...even Cuba has better health care than we do...pathetic. I wanted to blow shit up after watching SiCKO.
that's not actually true on that ranking list he mentions Cuba is quite a bit lower than us the Cuban docotrs were performing for his cameras
Just thought I'de mention that I was never able to see SICKO because the thaters within 100 mile radius of my town are not playing it. Coincidental? I think not. I suppose I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.
if you live in a conservative area, there isn't going to be the market for it, and the theater won't wanna buy it...
What's better though, no healthcare or Cuban healthcare? My partner does not have healthcare...so...something is better than nothing for us.
point taken however, those with good healthcare and ample money to suppot it may not agree there for the record, I do support socialized healthcare of some form
I don't really live in a conservative area, though. I'de actually say there are more liberals than conservatives in the area. I'de even go further and say there are even more people non politically driven in the area, thus I believe that's why it's not being shown. This film actually interests me because I too am an American without any form of Medical Insurance. Makes ya wonder why this has to be.
Been getting released in the U.K recently and people I know are just stunned at the portrayal of the american healthcare system. Is it really that bad? - People over here grumble about our healthcare, but this makes brits feel patriotic and kind of shamed of our critisisms. Often we're asking why isn't our NHS as good as the french healthcare system? - But SICKO certainly gives some perspective and has me counting my blessings. As a footnote, a friend of mine's sister moved to the U.S some years back, but as he's had cancer previously he's ruled out ever going out there himself. Is it really so bad or does the movie distort it a great deal?
what michael says in the movie about cuba is TRUE!!! if you look at the statistics, cuba has got the lowest rate of child deaths (sorry if you don't call it this way in english, its not my first language) cuba also delivers the best doctors/surgeons, medical research and education there is VERY good. there, the social system works very well. I'm living in Belgium and we use the same system as the french (yes, also what he says about france is true) it's a great system. We belgians are known for our complaining about our much too small country, but you will never hear anyone complain about our health system. this is also the reason we stay here . it's a social system, but believe me, that doesn't mean we are living in a communist way. and here we are back in cuba. many americans hate communism and gudge cuba for it. while on the other hand, communism is working very well there. look how they love and support "their" Fidel. (yes, not everyone, but hey, you have complainers everywhere, even in america) but also think about this: communism would never work in a country like US or in any country in europe, we are much to depending on others for that. and back the the social system... in short, ... I just don't understand why nobody in the us governement noticed that and why some people still believe it's a good system???
