I'm 26 and on lo/ovral, which I believe is a generic version of ortho-lo. Anyways, I have few side effects except I never feel like having sex. Before i started it my BF and I had an awesome sex life. Now, I'm not interested in other guys, or girls, I feel asexual. I suffered depression recently but it seems my sex drive was better when I was down then now. About 5 years ago I was on depo, which also (oddly enough) gave me few side effects but it did kill my libido. Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? Anyone know an aphrodesiac? I love oysters but they didn't help. I'm thinking of trying the IUD to get away from the hormones but it scares me.
talk to your doctor and theyll suggest a different brand of bc to try. they all have slightly different levels of hormones and some affect women more strongly than others. im on alesse and its barely affected my sex drive, its a rather low dose pill also make sure it isnt somethign eelse in your life, some sort of stressor thats killing your libido
Someone posted a similar thread here recently... but yeah I think I've noticed the same thing. I know I'm not asexual, I used to have a really high sex drive... I'm actually on a low dose but I don't know. I know it sucks... maybe the doctor can help I'm gonna ask mine I think.
yeah... I had the same problem when I was on the pill, and I tried many different kinds, including low dose. A big reason why I stopped taking them was the lowered libido. Ingesting synthetic hormones does bad things to my body and mind! I agree with allonym that it could be something else, including a phase in your relationship... but I also wouldn't underestimate the fact that lowered libido is a major side effect of the pill for some women. No fun.
May I ask how did you ever ween off of it? I tried to stop once for a month and my body freaked out.. I've been on it for 6 years so... yeah. And what method do you use now and hows it going? I would love to have another form that didn't involve hormones but I don't know if my body could adjust and I don't know what could be more convenient ya know. I think I'm gonna make an appt with my doctor soon anyway so maybe I'll ask her.
It does take time for your body to adjust... I'd give it about 3 months. I didn't ween off them or anything. Just stopped. I think the best kind of birth control depends on the situation, whether you're in a monogamous relationship, etc. There are many factors to consider so I wouldn't feel right recommending one over the other. I'm currently married so making a "mistake" wouldn't be such a big deal. The methods I've use since going off the pill are condoms (although not lately), withdrawal, and fertility awareness
I've been on Lutera for the past year, and until recently (skipped placebos, been bleeding for the past three weeks :|) I've had no problems with it. I did do the exact opposite though, my sex-drive spiked horribly, which isn't always a good theing, considering my boyfriend and I have been in an LDR for the past year as well... I would really suggest either a low dose pill, or something alond the lines of an IUD though. That may help.
yep, Ortho Lo totally murdered my sex drive. i hated it. i just never felt horny and i couldnt really get wet, either! it was terrible... i had been taking BC since 17 years old, and i finally said FUCK IT and stopped at age 23. I'm sick of pumping myself w/ horomones, it changes my mood too much and my sex life. i sooo appreciate BC, but i just am fed up with it. although condoms do kinda suck, at least its temporary and i can still get horny..
Ever consider getting fitted for a diaphragm or a cervical cap? They are marginally less effective as condoms, but if you use condoms regularly and/or a diaphragm, you still have a couple options available instead of having to rely on hormonal treatments. I have a diaphragm, and I love it. Boyfriend loves it too. Mind you, we've both been tested and cleared for STDs before we started using the diaphragm. I wanted to be sure, since we were always using condoms before I got fitted for one.
I'm on seasonale, and I have the same problem. Unfortunately, the primary reason I'm on birth control is that I have horrific cramps. This way, I only have four periods a year, and I can deal with that. I have no sex drive though, except right after my periods.
Hey!!! I've heard along the grapevine thats there now/soon to be available, contraceptives for MEN!!!! WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING BECAUSE I'M DRAGGING MY BOYFRIEND DOWN THERE!!!! We ladies need a break from the hormone/chemical injections and pills....let the boys have a turn!
