I can only hope voicing my disgust will remind people who would have otherwise done something entirely wasteful that their time and money could be devoted to something purposeful. This insanity doesn't need to be encouraged, and it definitely doesn't need to be ignored. In a perfect world, things like this would be required to occupy our otherwise blissfully boring time. We do not live in a perfect world, so such things are a distraction from what is important.
I've totally seen the biggest ball of twine. Twas the first *celebrity* I ever did meet. Even got my picture taken with it.
man, all that paper that children use coulda been used to write a new declaration of independence!!!! oh my goodness, that paint coulda been used for repainting homes instead of wasting it on children that will likely never develop any skill YOU'LL appreciate... let it go. again, you're totally wrong.
Those peeps should simply work for Hollywood. There's a job there to make things gigantic to give an illusion of having people shrunk.
and all that plater that michelangelo wasted in the sistine chapel coulda been used to cover up the drafty spots in the homes of the poor!!! just because you dont' like someone's art/hobby/passion doesn't make it a waste.
that's not art. its a waste of time. It doesn't express anything but boredom and a desire to say you made the world's biggest pencil.
ah, now we get to talk about "what is art?" personally, i LOVE it. i NEED whimsy, silly, funny, no point but to have fun, make something for people to look at and enjoy. it is valid, it is worthwhile, and i'm going to make a point of seeing it, if they don't dismantle it.
^the guy who thought of the idea bent over, his workers took hold of the pencil, and the rest is history
The idea here is to stop living such wasteful lives... art or not, this pencil solves nothing. That money could have solved a problem, instead of pulling resources away from possibly solving a problem. What is better than doing something like that? Anything that solves a problem. "and all that plater that michelangelo wasted in the sistine chapel coulda been used to cover up the drafty spots in the homes of the poor!!!" ooooo, ahhhhh, woooow... again, nothing solved. Perhaps his time would have been much better spent doing something else... instead of reminding us how corrupt the church really is. Why does such a work of art belong in a church? I have more respect for people who spraypaint walls and what not, because they are doing it to serve a purpose... not remind folks how rich the church is. Sistine chapel is a great work of art, but it didn't accomplish anythng. My point here is, instead of directing artistic skill to something so wasteful, it could be directed to something that serves a purpose. Its just a way of thinking, live in selfish excess or live to serve a greater purpose. Anywhere between walks the line of televangelists
