Does anybody get offended by the word? I don't get why a lot of females don't want to be called chicks, but I guess they've got their reasons. I personally love the word. Anybody with the right organs can be girl. But it takes something to be a chick. Any thoughts?
I like the word 'chick'! I call other females chicks..I call myself a chick..so of course I don't have a problem with it. Some really strong feminists don't like the word because it is demeaning to women. (Somewhere in the catergory of bitch, ho, broad, etc.) I haven't personally met a woman who didn't like the word, and I've never experienced an encounter with anyone on the board who didn't like it. I could be wrong, though, there may very well be some females on here who don't like it...although I don't know why they wouldn't. I'm rambling. lol. Anyways, thats my opinion!
hahaha... chicks rule I never thought of it in the same category as bitch, ho etc, but I guess I can see how a few could be offended by it. I love it though.
I have nothing wrong with the word chick. I actually call some of my closer female friends "chicklets" because it just sounds so cute!
Read Drop city recenty (good book BTW) and there was a passage about the terms hippies used (cats and chicks). It suggested that chick is used because chicks are soft and delicate, in need of love and protection. One of the characters found that patronising, she noted that women could be just as tough. It's an intresting theory, and I can see it's point. Though I don't particually mind the term.
I don't mind "chick" too much as long as it does not become a habit of calling me that. I do not like being called that "bird". That pisses me off!
in Yiddish, one refers to males as "boychicks," a popular book is Boychicks in the Hood, for example... I guess in our cultures "boychick" would be a transvestite /transexual? since my former forum personality was a chick, I guess I 'd have to say its OK with CLOSE friends.
I agree...I like the word 'Chick' over 'female', which always reminds me of a referrence in the animal kingdom... You really should consider putting it on a tee-shirt...This Chick would buy it... Q.
i've heard it used both in an insulting way and an endearing way. i quite like the word, i refer to other girls and myself as chicks all the time.
I use the word "chick" all the time. I don't think it has any bad connotations, so I don't see anything demeaning about using it. It's just a different way to refer to a girl. Kind of cute that someone would want to refer to a girl by using the name we give baby chickens.
