Hydromorphone vs Oxycodone

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this forum and wanted to know if anyone has had experience with both Hydromorphone (tablets) and Oxycodone. If so, please share your opinion regarding the differences--both positive and negative--between them. I have been prescribed MS Contin in the past for a chronic pain condition and it did nothing for me. I currently take Oxycodone 10/325 for pain on a regular basis. Is Hydromorphone stronger? Does it produce the same effects as Oxycodone? I have tried many versions of opiates in varying strengths in the past--Hydrocodone/APAP, Oxycodone/APAP, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, MSContin--and 10mg Oxycodones have always worked the best for me. Oxycontins either don't work at all or give me terrible headaches. With certain opiates it seems the higher the dosage, the less effect it has on me...for some reason. Does Hydromorphone have any common side effects such as headaches or nausea? Just curious as to which one most people prefer.

What do you mean oxycontin doesn't work for you? Oxycodone is the chemical in oxycontin, MS is a slow release form of morphine so you have to chew it up, ever tried snorting them?.. Hydromorphine, from what I hear is incredible compared to morphine and oxy's.. Most people snort or inject them though, swallowing usually doesn't work that well, morphine has a low bio % of like 60 when swallowed, which is a waste unless you really just need it for pain.

 

Dunno. Oxycontins just don't work for me. They make me sick. Doctor gave me a month's supply of the 80mg's and I used them for like 3 days before tossing them. Then tried a variety of other meds before going back to the 10mg Oxycodones. Like I said, they work the best. But was asking about the Hydromorphone because I've read many comments from people who seemed to love it. Doctor asked me if I wanted to try Opana (I haven't yet) and was going to ask him about the Hydromorphone at my next appointment. Not into snorting or injecting anything though. So, only wondering how the tablets compare to Oxycodone when swallowed.

 

Not very well, like I said you won't feel much euphoria when they are swallowed, pretty much a waste. I'd stil with the 10mg's for now if thats what is working for you, 80's might have been to much.. maybe ask him for the 20's or 40's

 

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely gonna stick with the 10mg Percocets but, if he's willing, maybe I'll have him give me the Hydromorphone just to see how I respond to it.

The MS Contin was probably a bit too strong for you if they made you sick. Also, Percocets probably work better for you because of the Tylenol (which really does make a difference in pain management when paired with Oxycodone or other pain medications). If you were sensitive to MS Contin more than likely you will be just as sensitive to Hydromorphone. This is usually prescribed as Dilaudid and is commonly bought on the street by heroin addicts as a subsitute, It's pretty strong stuff. Perhaps try a lower dose of Oxycontin like 10 or 20mg? 80mg is one hell of a jump from 10mg Percocets. Also I personally find time released drugs just drag those sick ugh feelings out forever. I prefer Roxicontin to Oxycontin (personally for recreational usage) because it's immediate release like a Percocet but without the liver damaging Tylenol. You can also chew or crush an OC to sorta eliminate the time release properties of the pill.

 

The MS Contin's didn't make me sick, they just didn't work. The Oxycontin's made me sick. But I have a pretty high tolerance - I'm on a high daily dosage of the 10mg percocets and have been on them for quite some time. The 80mg Oxycontins just don't seem to work for some reason and, at the same time, give me really bad headaches. I do prefer immediate release meds to the extended release ones. But if I do decide to try the Hydromorphone, the doctor will surely prescribe an equivalent dosage to the Oxycodone.

 

Yeah man i don't know why you threw away a bottle of 80mg oxycontins.. them shits is gettin expensive all of a sudden.

 

None of this makes any sence at all to me ? At first I thought the same thing as Godm4ch1n3 that the Ms and OC's were just to strong for him and thats what was making him sick. Becasue strong opiates will make people who are not use to them real sick until there body gets use to them and you build up a tolerance.Its weard because Percocet and Vicoden is like childs candy compared to the strength of OC's and MS. Dude you are the first perosn I have never heard of someone who likes opiates eather for pain or for getting high would rather take low yield pain killers rather then big boys ? Its like someone who likes good weed saying they would rather smoke Nasty Ass Ghetto Dirt Headache Weed in Nickle Bags instead of 1/4 of Kind Bud ??? You just don't hear of or know to many people who would choose the Ghetto Dirt ????

 

Meh, Dunno... It's strange how a low dose of Oxy works and a high dose doesn't. Good luck on finding something that works for you though.

 

LOL I didn't say I didn't like the euphoric effects of them. I was just stating that certain opiates affect me differently than others. My body even reacts differently to 10mg percocets manufactured by different companies. For example, I prefer 10mg Endocets and Mallinckrodt's to the Watson brand. Peoples' bodies respond differently to different drugs/fillers. It doesn't make much sense to me either. I would think I'd like the 80mg OC's as well, but I just don't. As for tossing the OC's, I guess, in retrospect, I could have kept them for a rainy day or whatever. But my doctor is always available so I don't have a problem acquiring medication and I have good insurance so I only pay $10 for any script - and in NYC there's a pharmacy on every corner so, no matter what the medication, you can get pretty much anything the same day.

 

Hydromorphine is insane. Best opiate pill in my opinion, close to heroin if not better. Snort it and you'll feel the warmth instantly

 

ive snorted oxycontin and dilaudid (hydromorphone) many times and i def enjoy hydromorphone but i would def take OC over it ne day.

 

Hi all I'm new to this so I hope I don't make an ass out of myself but I'm a pretty heavy opiate user. I usually wear a 100 Mcg fentanyl patch and at times like to cut it into 4 pieces to eat. My tolerance is so high that I can snort an 80oxy and not get much of a buzz. My question is since I've recently acquired 50 4mg Dilaudid and after sniffing 4 and not feeling much I wanted to know how to "cook it" to use it in iv. I've done H in iv a long time ago so it wouldn't be a first but I just don't know how to iv the Dilaudid safely. Anyone that can help me?

 

Its very easy to shoot Dilaudids- brake the pill up into powder from. Take the powder mix it with about 30 to 50 mg of water. measure the water out with your needle. Mix the powder in with water in a bottle cap or spoon. Some D's you can cold shoot meaning you on' have to heat the solution, others you have to heat the liquid to help brake it down more, so would heat the water a little bit just to the point of boiling but no more, but if the Dilaudid looks like it mixed into the water when you first added the powder there is no need to heat the solution at all. after you made up your mind to cook the shit or not take a little peace of fitler from a cig or form a Q tip something like that, when I shoot up I always use cotton from my smokes. roll the cotton into a small ball then mix the liquid up real good I use the inside of the needle the plunger that pulls out or you can use anything, Now drop the cotton into the water after you mix the solution and you are nopw readyto draw up the magic potion !!! Find a vein and then your ready to get fucked up. Its not to hard at all !!!! This is the way you shoot pretty much any thing from Herion,coke, Meth,Pills to special K and X !!! GOOD luck man, If you habbit is as high as you say it is you better move to doing herion or better yet just stop and get into a Detox or a methadone program !!!!

 

I hear ya I'm def working on getting off the shit. Like I had mentioned I did go thru a short binge where I was shooting (H) but Somehow I managed on stopping the IV use but ended up on Methadone before I quit. I've been on the 100mcg fentanyl patch but often abuse it to where I have to scramble to get something else to hold me over until I can get my new script filled. I got my hands on these 4mg Dilaudids to hold me over but I snorted 4 and felt little to nothing. When I shot I did it exactly how you described right down to using a bottle cap, cig filter and stirring with the needles plunger(prob common for all of us) but I had never done it with anything else so I wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving my kids as orphans. This will be a one time thing for me so I'm trying to do it safe. Any recommandations on a 1st time dosage? Thanks for your help

 

In the hospital, the typical dosage for IV Dilaudid is 1.5-3mg at a time every 4-6hrs. I have a decent tolerance, not quite your habit Tommy, but I've averaged 80-100mg of Oxy per day for the last 6 months, so its up there... anyway every so often when I run out I pull a bullshit ER run and they hit me with 2mg Dilaudid IV and thats all I need.

SO, although I don't claim to be a doctor, I'd reccommend you start with 3mg or less, and if it doesn't work, up the dose.

hydromorph contin vs oxycontin... Hi everyone...Need a tip... I am gonna run out of oxy's b4 my re-supply date but I have Hydromorph contin in quantity...Does someone know if I snort those instead if it will do the same or is it a waste???
