Hi. I found this website http://www.tathagata.co.uk about a guru who says he has attained the perfect enlightenment. He has a lump on his head which he says is the third eye, or the eye of wisdom, and he has many teachings about what is karma, what is life and others The teachings sometimes really make sense, I was wondering if this guy could really have enlightenment and maybe the real deal, but not sure as there are thousands of people claiming to have enlightenment. Would like to hear anybody elses views on Tathagata. I noticed his website does not sell anything or have any adverts, unlike all other gurus websites, whose main objectives seem to be making money..and he will also answer anyones questions.
Hmm. I can't say that I'm convinced. He is undoubtedly "enlightened" to some extent... this is certain. However, I do not believe he has achieved perfect enlightenment for many reasons. For one, I can sense a slight hint fo egotism throughout his website, which does not suggest true enlightenment. On the front page, he says that life becomes much harder for the enlightened. I guess I see his point, but all of the people I've ever heard of that seem to be enlightened have lived a life of total peace and happiness after the enlightenment. I just can't picture the Buddha or Neem Karoli Baba saying that his life was very difficult post-enlightenment. Why is he convinced that he is that one enlightened one who comes once about every 3000 years? I think this is demeaming to the many others who have attained enlightenment. I will keep looking through the site, but something about the tone of it just doesn't sit right with me. Ok actually I just saw this quote on his site: "I always notice that the teaching of the existing Buddhism is not beneficial to humanity." What kind of statement is that? I think that's game set match... sadly, not enlightened...
enlightenement could truly not be measured by any standard. take from the giver of truth, but only that which is true, and then ignite the dark corridors of your inner sanctum and be enlightened for you can only know enlightenement when you are enlightened.
Yeah I guess I shouldn't judge the man's enlightenment - I can say that I disagree with some of his teachings, but if he says he sees the truth, I won't question it.
I thought his teaching about What is Karma - http://www.members.tripod.com/tathagata2000/enlightenment_what_is_karma.htm - was very inspirational, its a shame about the grammar, as its been translated from Korea, but I can't question his enlightenment at all, what other person who claims to have enlightenment will teach this "My message to you is that you yourself are your own Messiah" - its the same as Jesus and Socrates who both taught to watch yourself, and even Audlous Huxley who said that the only part of the universe you can change is yourself - I noticed that all the great teachers said the same things. But all the false Gurus seem to have build up empires with many people, giving money and selling books etc,,, Tathagata just teaches for free and travels around the world at his own expense. He really is the true enlightened being.
I highly doubt that he has attained enlightenment. The only thing his third eye protrusion proves is that consciousness can manifest physically. In all likelihood, the realization he experienced at age 44 was 6th chakra oriented but not inclusive of his crown chakra (which as students of the chakra system know is where enlightenment is realized in an energetic sense), and due to an unknown peculiarity of his path the realization manifested physically. Also, being a student of astrology, I did his natal chart and noticed that his south node is in Capricorn. The north/south nodes are lesser known aspects of astrology and represent our karma, the south being representative of outmoded karmic patterns that need to be counterbalanced by incorporating north node qualities. Capricorn in its dysfunctional form represents assigning unwarranted value to hardships and suffering, and I couldn't help but notice that his biographical info as well as his "enlightenment" experience reports seem to fixate on exactly those experiences. This all indicates that from an evolutionary standpoint his progress has stagnated. And that's not even taking into account the fact that claiming to be the only enlightened individual on earth (and the first to appear in 3000 years -- meaning he is supposedly transcendent of Jesus and the Buddha) is about as grandiose and deluded as someone can get. So while it's highly unlikely that he's attained enlightenment, he clearly has a fascinating path. Hopefully he doesn't waste the rest of his life wallowing in his apparent delusions of grandeur. This liar has his own tag team of internet spammers, who in the usual fundamentalist spirit of pulpit pounding, have trolled the net promoting this goofy bastard. His enlightenment, his not enlightenment, neither thing is real and enlightenment cannot be proclaimed nor given away. And especially not sold.
