why don't you start at places like the beach and the swimming pool where it's considered normal to be barefoot?

    Hi Shy Guy

Firstly Let Me Welcome You To The Hip Forums......One Of The Best Sites On The Net...........Please Don't Take Offence To My Post But I Just Cannot Get My Head Around The Fact That You Are Having Such A Hassle With Something So Simple And Natural As Barefooting.............In Australia 18yo Guys Can Go Into Pubs And ClubsTo Drink And Gambel..........Drive..........Vote In All Elections.......Join The Army And Go To War......Fly Aircraft Solo...etc etc........All Of Which Make Barefooting Look Pretty Tame By Comparison.
If I May Just Steal A Line From The Nike Company.......JUST DO IT !!!!!!!

All The Best In Your Barefoot Adventures

    Cheers Glen.

    Hiya Glen,

Dont worry, i hardly take offence xD

Ive always worn shoes, and i mean, always, going barefoot is like changing who you are, and im not one to change who i am, in a sence.

Australia is nice to try this, London isnt, ive seen one guy barefooting in my entire life thats how rare it is here, and even that was so many years ago.

Maybe ill just enjoy going barefoot at home, i AM probably missing out from doing it outside but you know, i feel happy in shoes, maybe that is why its so hard? I think it would of been different if i wasnt happy.

Maybe in the near future, more people in london will ditch the shoes, but i doubt it.

    Hi Again ShyGuy,

    * Here Begineth The Lesson * AT 18 YOU SHOULD NEVER CLOSE YOUR MIND TO CHANGE, HOWEVER LARGE OR SMALL THAT CHANGE MAY BE ..........Keeping An Open Mind Is Essential For A Young Man Just Starting Out In Life.
I'm Sure You Change Your Hairstyles (maybe even colour)....Clothing Styles.....Shoestyles.....Car Or Motorbike......Favourite Take Out Food........T.V.Shows etc etc ......So Why THE BLOODY HELL Single Out Barefooting?????..
    *Here Endeth the Lesson*

    Cheers And Blessings.........Glen.

    Hiya glen,

I understand where your coming from but, it's easier said then done, different personalities and such (think i goofed on the spelling there!) There is some things you can change and some things you cant...

Im feeling a tad tired (been up all night, sleeping patterns gone up the wall) so gonna lay down for a few hours.

If i never barefoot properly, i wouldnt mind, as i said, im happy with shoes and maybe in the future ill venture out.

Well ShyGuy, I don't have ant words of wisdom beyond what everyone else has said, except to say that the sooner you stop caring what everyone else thinks of you, the sooner you can truly discover who you are and live your own life. If you let people around you determine your lifestyle, you're giving over something truly precious and important: your freedom. I don't want you to think this is harsh, because I remember my own feelings at 18, and it could simply be that you're not ready to define yourself in those terms yet (it took me a lot longer than 18 years!).

I truly hope you can find that confidence and boldly embrace your own needs.Just remember that life is short, and life is wonderful, so why wait? :)

I think we can all agree we do stuff to feel happy, and im not unhappy for being in shoes.

Ill probably wont go through with barefooting, probably just a "at the moment" thought, so.... yeah, maybe i will, maybe i wont.

Hi shy guy, i go barefoot in London every time i visit, about 4 or5 times a year, and no one ever comments on it. This year, i climbed to the top of st Pauls cathedral (over 400 steps), visited the imperial war museum, used the tube trains and visited shops and restaraunts with a barefoot friend, without any trouble at all. Just do it!

Hey ShyGuy I don't know if you're still here, sorry I haven't been in this forum much lately due to the weather forcing me to wear something on my feet and you know, out of sight out of mind. Anyways take a look at the photos on barefoot Moe's page here http://www.barefootcanada.ca/toronto/health.htm

Bwaah look what you're doing to your poor feet! Take your shoes off quick! Looks and stares aside your feet are designed to support your spine and keep you upright. They need room to flex and grip the surfaces you walk on and shoes typically prevent them from functioning properly.

Did you know that as recently as the 60's women who didn't wear heels were openly mocked? My mum was anyways. That's why so many old women have bunions. Thank heavens to all the people who took a stand then. Maybe someday someone will thank us for taking one now.

ShyGuy, I have the exact same problem. I've always been afraid of being barefoot anywhere. But last summer I went down this hill to this place where nobody could see me and I was doing my private barefoot walk again, not really exciting. Then all of a sudden I said "Screw it, I'm going barefoot." So I slowly inched my way up this hill and then got on my bike and started riding along side of the road. I was all worrying about what people thought of me all the way, even though I shouldn't. I then decided to go into Rite Aid and right before I got in the store this old lady gave me a dirty look, but that was really all I got in reactions. When I got in the store I was trying to avoid all the people, but then I kinda dashed out. I did it one more time after that in another store and did the same thing. Really no one said anything either of those times and I am still shy about going barefoot in public. I hope we both will change that later in life, good luck.

ShyGuy, being barefoot and enjoying the feeling is only half of the pleasure. The other half is pissing off intolerant people and getting into arguments with them. [IMG]

Don't try and avoid anyone. Really. Just walk in like you belong there and no one will say a word, or care for that matter. Smile and say hi to the clerks when you see them, etc... You'll get over the shyness once you realize the majority of people are cool with it or at least indifferent.
