I have never been to this site before but i'm putting this out there so maybe someone could help me.

My dog is 7 yrs old, a lab/rott/austrailian cattle dog mix who is epileptic. He got into our trash yesterday (which is unlike him). He consumed most of a pie (either pumpkin or coconut custard), keilbasa, and possibly had coffee grinds attached to some of them. He has been vomitting and has diarhea. I called the emergency vet and they told me to watch him. He is unable to rest right now, continuously walking around. I am quite worried about this. Shoud I take him to an emergency place? is this something he can get through? advice please??

take him to an emergency place. better safe than sorry, and there are a lot of things in the trash that can be harmful to dogs (not just chocolate!) don't trust the phone receptionist at the vet...get ur dog to the emergency vet now!!!!!

I figured I'd give you guys an update and thank you for your replies. I took my dog to the vet today. The vet did an exam, blood work and xrays. He has pancreatitus. The vet told me he is to NEVER have people food again. More or less saying that he had this condition his whole life, but the amount of food he consumed made it "flare up". He said he gets so many cases of this right after Thanksgiving and Christmas, probably because of family gathering and everyone feeding little bits to the dog.

Once again, thank you so much for your input.

Thank you for getting him to the doctor, I'm glad things are going to be okay. I assume they just told you to withhold his food for 24 hours?

    This is a relief. :)

I was just coming back to update on my pup. I had to put him to sleep this morning. I am very upset. I took him back to the vet this morning because he began vomitting water again and still wouldn't eat. They drew blood again and told me his pancreas values were off their charts, his liver values were also high. They told me there is really nothing they can do. It was very difficult but I guess I knew it was the best thing for him. My dog was 7 years old, my baby who I had since he was 6 weeks old. He will be dearly missed and I hope that no one has to go through something like this. RIP Duncan, I love you.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your most special Duncan Dog. I can think of nothing worse on earth than the loss of a best friend in so tragic a way. I hope you know and remember that he will always be with you, since true love never fades...

Duncan and You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Glad to hear he's fine. I was about to say get him to the vet, but I see where you already have. Good, good.
